I wish I had a guitar whose pitch changed when I turned a throttle handle... :( I used to watch this when I was about 10, initially hating it for shifting The X-Files from the mum-friendly 9pm to the dangerously-close-to-bedtime 9:30.
I loved the show. The intro song was written by none other than Jeff Beck who's good mates with the director Peter Richardson who also did the Comic strip. First time we see Gary Beadle who went on to Eastenders and Doon who went on to Smack the Pony. Phil Cornwell used to do Bowie and Jagger on Steve Wright in the afternoon. The villain in this is the captain on Red Dwarf, Just a bit of background for you guys.
I know one other person who remembers it, whenever glam-metal comes up in conversation (which it sometimes does) we both talk about our favourite bits from this programme whilst his wife looks at us like we've just walked in from outer space, ahh fun times :)
Was there an episode where they bumped into David Bowie (played by Phil Cornwell) who tried to get them to a party? He pleaded "I've got cocktail sausages"...? (I quote that a lot but can't remember where I got it!).
What was the name of the shit stand up comedian on this show? I remember him telling the most random joke about Astronauts eating a packet of crisps and thinking it was hilarious when I was young
Is the bad guy captain hollister from red dwarf? His mannerisms seem really similar...

The theme tune was written by Lol Creme and Trevor Horn - with Lol Creme's son Lolagon's band along with Jeff Beck playing the tune
