BEST ANSWER on this subject: I do not like to get in the habit of saying one style is better than others. No offense, but it is really interesting how it's always these really mean and tough looking karate guys who are able to be successful. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Narushima became half as successful as Yamaki or Hajaime.
In a real fight to defending his life, who has the winner's advantage: A master of karate with full knowledge of kata's bunkai and makiwara experienced or a Wing Chun master trained in wooden dummy (mudjong). In your opinion who's the one that would survive?
Remember Kyokushin is a Korean Style that was accepted by the Japanese by Mas Oyama or his Korean name Choi Bae Dai. He still had to go through the board to get it's seal of approval. An yes I agree about it comes down to the Individual fighter that determines the outcome of a fight or kumite.
Kyokushin is a style of Karate that was created by Mr. Oyama who was born in a province of the Imperial Japanese Empire, Chosen (what is now South & North Korea). Chosen was a province of Japan from 1910CE-1945CE. Mr. Oyama trained in Shotokan (Okinawan Karate) and Goju Ryu (Okinawan Karate) before he created Kyokushin Karate in the 1950s. Kyokushin Karate has both Shotokan kata and Goju Ryu kata. Osu
Thank you for your reply. I do not want there to be any misunderstanding about Mr. Oyama's art, Kyokushin. And Mr. Oyama himself who was Zainichi (a Korean that was a Japanese permanent resident) and his art which was based on Okinawan Karate. Thank you for your time. Osu
@MErazoaPT, I am so happy to know that someone else sees the fallacy behind "Brazilian" Ju Jitsu. To al those who have apparently swallowed the "Brazilian" Ju Jitsu Kool-Aid, why is it that we NEVER see demonstrations against multiple opponents? Because that shit doesn't work, that's why. I'll dare ANYONE to apply that crap in a fight against three people (or even two). If you do, you will get your ass handed to you with a quickness.
@budokichigai You are right on point with your comment! people act like fighting started with Muay-Thai and BJJ! There is a reason the entire syllabus of marital arts does not get taught to combat forces. It is because at least 50% of what they teach is low %. Add that to the fact that most martial arts are not taught in the manner they were meant to be taught and you end up paying good money to learn how to get your ass kicked. All the talk about "ground fighting" gets out of hand. I am from
@budokichigai 2) the "hood" and we had a way of holding a person down with our weight and one arm in order to "work" with the other. All of a sudden that age old method is called "ground n pound" lol! When it comes to many of the positions (full mount, cross side, north/south) you would scrape the meat off your knees if you were on pavement. The last place you want to be is on the ground fighting for an armbar! Basic escapes, reversals and the 9 most high % subs. The rest save for the cage.
yes , i agree , karate should be enjoyable :) . i rly enjoy it despite the intense workouts . stupid krav maga say that martial art should not be enjoyable and should play dirty
@555hansy All training can and should be enjoyable. The best in anything enjoy what they are doing. Perhaps what the krav maga "guy" meant was that the focus should not be on making it fun as opposed to it automatically being fun for anyone who likes to train. I am 50 years old and have been in one fighting art or another for 41 years. I have, and still do enjoy the riggers and pain of training hard and with conviction. I still enjoy "first contact" than the training starts lol.
Well...Anyone who thinks that Kyokushin Karate is garbage, may just eventually find themselves in an altercation, with more than one individual. You hit the floor with one guy, to apply your submission holds, while the other, is trying to kick the day lights out of you. I have studied Brazilian jiu jitsu, for over 15 years. Kyokushin Karate and Muay Thai (5 years). I would not go to the ground, with more than one opponent, unless I have no choice. Just common sense.
Remember Kyokushin step out of our comfort zone fighting in k1 where head punches are'nt allowed in kyokushin tournaments and have to adjust to guarding their heads continiously, and Andy Hug, Glaube Feitosa andFrancisco filho are proof that they did well, now you put a top muay thai fighter in a bare knuckle kyokushin tournament, you'd find they would struggle with close range punches to the ribs, liver, sternem, so both styles i respect, but if i had to choose it would be kyokushin. OSU!!!!
People still argue about what style is better? When will people learn it's not the style, but the fighter? It's about the most complete training.
In this day and age, arguing about which is better ironically exists only on YouTube.
Besides, are you going to tell the old people in the parks that their Tai Chi Chuan isn't going to prepare them for the octagon? Efff off, they just want to enjoy the spritual healing and benefits on martial arts! What if they don't have the same goals as you? -_-
perhaps it's hard to belive, but the fact is that kyokushin karate is the most dominant fighting style on the planet. it's not the most atractive, not the most spectacular, but probably the one of the simpliest and that's the point.
hahah 0:28 thats me in like 6grade. i was so littleee. I think this was actually my first belt test. Also it doesn't matter which martial arts is the best, it depends on the fighter. You can have the weakest muay thai fighter fight the weakest kyokushin fighter, and all you get is a bad fight. You train in your style you love, not to rant about who is stronger. PS Yamaki dojo is da besttttttt
Quit saying which style is better...thats like saying one guitar is better than another. I know guys who own the best guitar and it sounds like garbage, I have seen guys playing guitars that are taped together and they sound brilliant. Kata and basics are like music scales, you can sound like you are playing scales or you can make music...
I know Kenji Yamaki is a great kyokushin fighter, but what does he teach at his dojo in torrance? It says on the web site its Yamaki Karate... is that something different then kyokushin? I want to take kyokushin, and would be awsome to be taught by him.. but does he still teach it there?
@Wanderer22100 i go to yamaki karate in torrance. Ive been going there since like 6 grade and now im a sophomore in highschool. His trainings have probably been the best for me. Ive grown so strong because of him. Its not all that lame karate things that the media perceives you to think, he actually teaches you how to kick some guys butt. I learned so much that without yamaki Sensei I probably couldnt do anything on my own. His teachings are like kyokushin, but it is not affiliated with it.

I have Yamaki's 100 man kumite on VHS. It was held at the Honbu Dojo in Ikebukuro in 1995. Actually his fight was broadcasted on TV! Yamaki was always my hero when I was a Kyokushin fighter. He is definitely one of the best Full Contact Karate fighters ever.

I read that Mas Oyama performed the 500 man kumite, 100 a day, against his students and he wanted to keep going but his students asked him to stop.
