  • LOL he's soo pissed! but who wouldn't be.

  • Newegg probebly got it mixed up, you got a sample package intel uses to show pwople sizes, shapes, ect. I had a product that didn't work, they replaced it for free and didn't even charge shipping :)

  • Microcenter > all if you are lucky enough to live near one... I know, I work in sales there, and I LOVE IT!

  • It was neweggs supplier, not newegg, why would they even attempt something like this? Clearly they got screwed, and unknowingly shipped them.

  • Did you order a fake processor? Why will you continue to do business with them?

  • The fan looks real enough #LOL

  • i lol'd at the fan xD

  • Gopheristism - this is NOT fraud. read the articles...fakes are a very popular way to make money, yes. the thing with fakes is, you could get a fake in at anytime. the supplier newegg got their cpu's from is no longer a supplier for them anymore because of this. regardless, it isnt neweggs fault. did you know, also, that they replaced the CPU's? or did you not read up on that either? its as easy as searching for this mishap on google..its not rocket science...its 3rd grade English...come on

  • ...I meant to mention: With all the parts I bought last night, I ended up with the EXACT SAME power supply. The OCZ Stealth X Stream 600W was $45 after rebate @ Microcenter. I'll probably use the modular PSU that by brother is sending.

  • I kinda wish Newegg would have built frames or display stands for each fake CPU and ship them back to original owners as a keepsake (after sending the genuine replacements, of course). I'm sure these are all rounded up in an evidence locker somewhere.

  • Just got a Core i7 930 from Microcenter for $199.99

At least I don't think there's any risk of getting fakes Intel CPUs from Microcenter. They seem to have some kind of special direct-deal with Intel to consistently offer CPUs for $100 less than the closest competition. I doubt there's even a distributor in between.

  • @jevansturner thanks for the site!

  • @randomuseronthenet

Hmm..I didn't think Microcenter sold anything online. I always had to go to the brick-and-mortar stores. I think the Intel CPUs are only available in-store. Probably some non-compete agreement they have so they can sell them for so cheap.

  • I am sorry... but I agree with stupidjunk878... the cpu heatsink "mould" would be funny if this was staged but of course we know it's not... which is sad...

  • if this was me I'd be seriously enraged.

fist fake flash drives now fake CPUs what next.

  • LOLL try to enable audio transcription it just ripped my stomach from laughter

  • That is well bad, how can a retailer do that, you should take them to court if they dont give your money back

  • i remember when this happened at HP years ago.they filled several boxes of oem cpu's with mortar to match the weight of the cpus inside.the HP warehouse didn't noticed until they opened the boxes right before the cpu's were about to be installed.

  • I know how you feel man, I got one too. Had to return that bitch so I could get a refund.

  • maybe the shipment had to travel thru Mexico.

  • dude that was funny ass hell i loled so hard that i was almost crying when u said all surprise "its - a processor becuz I dont have oneee!" LMAO

  • LOL, this is sooo funny.

You have to give them credit, that plastic heatsink+fan is a work of comedy genius

  • Yes Sad and Funny, dam that sucks , one gets excited about a new cpu and you get a fake.

  • I don't think that's a demo, looks more like counterfeit. If that's a demo box as Newegg claims, someone cannot spell correctly and someone was smoking too much on the job

  • FUCK!!!!!!!!! I feel sorry for u man!

  • The notepad you recieved was supposed to look like a manual. Apparently. The manufacturers of this f***ing S**tpile didnt bother putting a logo on the box. I guess the notepad is to get the weight right.

    Sorry for your loss man.

  • Nothing funny about this at all, just shows that the number of serious assholes is increasing.

The guys who did this scam should be punished like in old times.

    Removal of hands.

  • @EntekIO Nah, I know how you feel when it comes to people messing with my comp. parts, but newegg firing IPEX probably put some serious hurt on their business. Wait, I take it back, I'd prolly commit murder.

  • That's some funny shit :)

  • its not funny :( this guy got rape :(

  • Nah, he'll get his money back. Newegg is top when it comes to stuff like that. I ordered a DVI cable once because the monitor was listed as not having one and I ended up with 2. Instead of having me send it back, they just let me keep it and refunded my money for it.

It's basically just a setback of a few days, but he'll get his money!

  • Hey guys, an update on this, go to Google and type: "Newegg axes supplier over fake intel chips"

It seems that the supplier that sends these chips to Newegg, IPEX, has dropped the ball. Newegg acts accordingly, but not after trying to deny the situation and say these were 'demos'. They should have just manned up and accepted responsibility and sent out replacements ASAP, saving face and customer trust.

    Enjoy!

  • Greetings from MaximumPC!

This is both sad and funny, hope you get your shit going dude and I also hope the scamming fuck that pulled this shit gets what is coming to him.

  • overclock that bitch

  • Awesome!

    Cargo Cult CPUs.

  • tolledegg

  • that sucks!

  • I don't see the picture trapped inside the box

  • that notepad was probly for fake manual

  • I'm never buying from newEgg ever again!

  • It wasn't their fault, their distributer sent them. They already terminated their contract with the people who sent them the fakes.

  • This isn't the best reaction. I've also seen testimony from people online who had problems with Paypal, eBay, Linden Labs, or various low-score-helping Credit Card companies such as First Premier Bank who make this announcement that nobody should trust said company. The fact of the matter is, (a) sometimes people simply have bad luck and (b) people tend to believe the world revolves around them and their experiences.

Unlike actual fraud such as a Nigeria Scam, this is just bad luck.

  • No- this is actual fraud. supergrendel ordered a CPU & fan, not a block of aluminum and a lump of plastic moulded to look like a CPU fan. This is not 'bad luck,' it's outright fraud with no small amount of premeditation.

  • bad luck would be a defective unit... the quality of newegg has gone down hill. their suppliers are shit. out of 4 items ordered recently, 3 of them were defects and i had to send it back. so much for savings because it all went back in return shipping.

  • @ghoststun

That's extreme. Newegg nixed their faulty supplier and is setting this right for their customers.

  • those fraking chinese....

  • i lol'd at the "sochet", hopefully you get a new cpu for free.

  • C4LYFE1 spends his days abusing people on here then calls the poster anti social :/

you need to close your mouth, stupid is leaking everywhere!

  • well there we go. its not often fake components come along especially expensive top of the range brand ones but this i must admit is funny. good luck on the refund, you will get it.

  • Nice goin' whoever stole 'em.

  • It looks to me like somewhere along the line someone stole the CPUs, HSFs, Manuals, and replaced them with the poorly made fakes of similar weight so it wasn't apparent until the customers got them. Could have been during shipment to customers(probably not), or somewhere @ Newegg's warehouse or before it got to Newegg, either of which is horrible for Newegg. Their "Demo" cover is almost certainly bullshit and the fact that the box's seal was broken seems to remove any doubt the CPU was stolen.

  • Been reading some of the comments, guys seriously, lets get this straight; CPUs of ALL things are extremely sensitive and therefor can NOT be manufactured anywhere, like in some average factory in China, it must be in a dust free enviroment, heck, the people have to wear suits to not contaminate the production line. FAKES where not made at the factory as I don't think a third party makes Intel processors, so far the best theory I have read is the CPUs being swapped with fakes during shipping.

  • Well your a polite one aren't you! Do you know the price some retail stores sell there computer components at? I don't buy online and am saved because I get cost price, which is usually cheaper then online prices anyway, but the average guy is WAAAAAAAAAAAY better off buying online! This is a one off thing and is clearly cause some corrupt asshole somewhere along the line stole the real ones and replaced them with the fakes, or a distrubtor sent fakes to Newegg, I DOUBT Newegg was responsible.

  • In England hardly any shops stock CPUs maybe only PC World warehouses. They generally have very poor customer service and charge more than any online retailer.

I know that Newegg are well known in the US. I would have gone to Fry's if possible if I lived on the West Coast.

Still you have to laugh at that "fan". Have Newegg issued refunds yet? If not then they are a disgrace.

  • Try watching it with the "Transcribe Audio" option on. It's quite fun.

  • @Phantom16000 LOL @ transcribed audio!!!!

  • Micro center beats them all, for CPU atleast.

  • well, i wont be ordering from Newegg for awhile.. TigerDirect... i'mmm baaacckkk!

  • Newegg is probably the best online retailer out there. Over 20k$ worth of product ordered over 5 years and not one complaint. Look at customer reviews, newegg is one of the highest rated companies on the site.

  • Wow I've been a customer of teh Egg since 06 and have never had any issues with them when it came to my merchandise, and I have probably spent well over 7k. That really sucks. One thing is for sure. Newegg will fix this quick.

  • Lol maybe those are intel's new stock coolers. That trick is very cold though. Did you get the real cpu later on?

  • to be honest the stock cooler may as well come like that for the use they are lol

  • Lol yeah, but some people don't buy new coolers.

  • yes clearly this video is the biggest "crap on youtube" not the endless videos of 7 year olds singing miley cyrus remakes or peoples bad covers of their favorite bands, a guy with a genuine issue with newegg trying to get it solved, is the biggest waste of youtube

  • i guess that he is proving that all other components recieved in package were okay, except processor...

but, what would you know, right?

    keep on trollin

  • that CPU fan is awesome!

  • terrorists! stealing our CPUs! Iran has something to do with this.

  • or maybe its your mom .

  • It would appear that...

    *Puts on glasses*

We have some fake Core i7 processors on our hands

    YYYYYYEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH

  • they should refund the money to you, and give you the cpu for free, and also free lifetime shipping for the rest of your days :) thats the minimum as an apologies.

  • shame on newegg, i was thinking about building a new computer with them, but maybe is a better idea to go to frys electronics :).

  • @darkalligator The way I understand it, it was not New Egg but one of their vendors.

You'll be fine ordering from NE. They've been good to me for years (and if you have an issue it's super-easy to send your item back).

I really hope people continue to support New Egg -- they are the last hope for those of us on the East coast, in a world dominated by Best Buy and to a lesser degree Radio Shack for our computer needs. It's horrible.

  • Owned hehehe!

  • I was just going to order a i-920 2 weeks ago as part of a system from newegg...glad i put it off!

  • Wow... that woulda suuuucked if it'd happened to me when I got my 920. I hope everything goes better for you!

  • something similar happened with a gpu i ordered

  • great, now all your fingerprints are all over it ... FBI's gonna have a great time trying to find fingerprints on it! If I bought an extreme edition and that happened to me I'd probably call them first. I'm sure they're already on it like blue bonnet.

  • fingerprints? lol watching a bit too much CSI there

  • ah forensics ... I suppose the egg could just query their database and know exactly whose hands touched which product from the shipping crate to dropship. Certainly an interesting whodunnit.

  • uh huh, the same newegg that shows product in stock in NJ, pay for next day air, but 3 days later still hadn't shipped, and when call them say well we can't tell you when we are going to ship it, then finally prints label on 4th day, then never has ups pick it up. then on 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th days refuse refund - have to get paypal involved to get money back. That newegg? They can't find a clue, much less solve this mystery.

  • Oh comeon stop blaming newegg for this. Someone obviously got the best of them, it was likely not neweggs fault at all. Someone probably intercepted the shipment in whatever third world country they were made in.

  • When I discussed the issue with their RMA department, they informed me to not order another Core i7 CPU until the issue was resolved. If newegg RMA department tells me to NOT spend money with their company then I should probably take that as truth. So I just ordered a new i7 920 from Tigerdirect.

I will continue my business with newegg as I have always been pleased with their service and expedient shipping.

  • necro!?

  • Sue those assholes.

  • Whoa, sorry man, good job with the video. They went to a lot of trouble to make this crap weigh & appear (from a distance or in a scan) similar to real thing... if it was a "demo" then why fake the instruction booklet with a notepad?

  • that sucks man

  • 25% huh? I must veeeeeeery lucky then!

  • tony soprano had something to do with it

  • JCFXSI... You have no idea where the processor is made. Sure some may be made in China, but a lot are made in the US.

  • Reminds me of the fake airfield stuff from the Cargo Cults. :)

  • Hmm.. OK, newegg is saying they were accidentally-set "demo" versions. I wonder if that's true, or if someone went to all this trouble in case the boxes were to be examined with x-rays?

Still seems like a crook did this.

  • Newegg is claiming that the units are demo units. Of course they will say that until they are blue in the face. They don't want to look like idiots. By the way the box was already open and the quality of the fake cpu and processor heatsink I have a hard time believing that they are demo units. The spelling on the box label isn't even good english and every other word is misspelled. I mean how hard is it to spell the word "and"?

  • the important thing is, have they replaced the fake goods with genuine products?

  • What I bet happened, was some asshat "RMAed" back his i7, and the idiots there (in the werehouse) just tossed it back into the "to go out" pile. :/

  • @StargateFurry that happens all the time at home depot... sad.

  • Yeah, he RMA'd a 920 300 times.

  • It's clearly an inside job. Similar stuff has happened in drug stores in the past I believe, where they order drugs and end up with fakes made of some inert chemical but they are the right size, shape and color. I really hope newegg will crack down on this quickly and I hope this customer gets their money back.

  • This is lol.

  • In the factory, they weigh every single box once it is packed to make sure the employees don't get grabby. Submitter, you will be able to confirm when you get your REAL processor that the real fan weighs the same as the decoy, the fake CPU weighs the same as the real one, and that the blank notepad is for the installation/instruction manual. This is a clever, well orchestrated switcharoo!

  • tonyzeb is correct. The boxes are weighed when they are shipped out. Someone went to great lengths to replace each part with something of identical weight. The sad part is that they actually went to the trouble of COMPLETELY faking the prints and what-not. The notepad just further gives you a middle finger for weight. What a bunch of shit. I've actually dealt with inside theft and this is what very skilled thieves are capable of. Easy replacement. Newegg should replace everything 100%.

  • the notepad is for the hate mail your gonna send or your feelings you can write down on it

  • My favorite is the notepad that came in the box. You get a fake processor, but you get an awesome notepad :)

  • when you make everything in china.. this is what you get

  • Actually, he is one of several people that got these bogus CPUs.

  • I just watched this with YouTube's audio "captions" turned on. Quite entertaining.

  • and here's my computer and the police

  • @Scari45 I think you think you're NOT retarded. Go put your helmet back on before you get another brain injury.

  • At least one of has a brain to protect huh?

  • For sure it wasn't maliciousness on newegg's part, but it wasn't 1 person at random. This has happened to many people recently. Seems like newegg got a bad shipment, faked between them and factory.

  • @samurphy

    ah ok

  • Wow this comes off as maaadddddd sketch - I hope you get this straightened out 'cuz that notepad is lookin' real expensive right now smh...

  • turn CC subtitles on. hylarious.

  • haha @krudboy

    It's so bad.

  • made in china ;p

  • Looks like a prop CPU youd use as decoration. E.g. if you know those fake TVs and stuff they have at furniture stores. That kind of stuff.

  • Wow, keep an update on how this happened. If anything you did at least bought a very expensive notepad.

  • You sound like a smarmy douchebag

  • @qu4rkz

Maybe, maybe not, but personally, I would be mildly annoyed if I had a whole forum thinking I was making something like this up, as if I would have something to gain.

  • Let us know how this works out. I hope newsegg will fix this ASAP!

  • Looks like some arsehole scammed Newegg. I'm sure Newegg will take care of you. Next time buy an AMD though. Intel is evil.

  • @g0blin

AMD is just as evil. In fact they are so evil they forgot how to make a powerful processor

  • @EvilxMerlin

yeah that's why a AMD at a lower mhz runs faster than an Intel of a higher mhz lol

  • This isn't 2002 anymore...

  • NO say it aint so! wtf does 2002 have to do with it? still holds true no matter the year...

  • Dude, get with the picture. The 2.4GHz Core2Duo runs circles around the AMD processor running at 2.4 Ghz. I won't even get into the i7 and i5's which lead AMD even at the same clockspeed so far in the dust its not even funny. Go read something current about processors before opening the ignorant pie hole again m'kay?

  • I will once I'm ignorant enough to figure out what M'kay means

  • Are you really that stupid?

  • @Myztik7

You people need to relax I'm just messing around everyone's walking around just waiting to either be insulted by someone or waiting to act like mr. internet tough guy take your pick, in other words noone has a sense of humor.

Back to the topic of this video noone can be stupid enough to actually think newegg knowingly ship fake stuff.

  • @g0blin OHAI.

  • @g0blin because AMD are immune to having cheap counterfeit copies of their processors being made in china.

  • This is why I go AMD. . . Just kidding.

I wonder how much you can sell counterfeit processors for, after you get your new one you should put it up on an auction site. Might be a collectors item.

  • Sounds daring, but I'm sure Intel's lawyers would have a field day. lol!

  • With the fake mold and all, it almost seems as if it's some kind of "demonstration" example or whatever, just something they put in display boxes or something... I dunno, perhaps they've accidently sent a bunch of those?

  • They sent him a display model by accident or something. Chill out, dudes. Newegg isn't like mass-shipping fake products and scamming people.

  • This is just but a minor hiccup. Newegg is doing everything they can to fix the problem. Building a PC does save time and money too btw. Last thing I want to do is go to an electronics store and browse the selection and wait for an employee who can't speak english and then coin toss to find out they don't have it in stock.

    Building > Prebuilt.

    Thanks

  • You let-them-build-it-for-you people sure are saving money and time getting slower hardware and infinite bloatware.

  • Plus, by building your own PC, you don't have to pay for the worthless operating system installed by default. Run a real operating system like GNU/Linux or BSD.

  • Entensity! :P

  • Good thing that I held off in buying parts for a new pc

  • All dealing with Newegg is on hold until this matter is solved to your satisfaction.

  • Well that's good I suppose. Possibly people wanting to get a 2nd CPU for free by doing an RMA with that fake box in it, getting a new chip sent, and some complicit employee there covering it up and got things mixed up and put the fake box in the racks as a functioning CPU? Just my own $0.02 worth of conspiracy theory...

  • sweet! your system is pretty much like my build!

Love the Armor MX (although its huuuge)

good luck getting things settled with newegg!

  • You got on Slashdot! I hope that Newegg takes good care of you. I have always had 100% satisfaction from them in the past. Nothing like this has happened to me of course. But their reaction to how they treat you will determine if I buy from them again.

  • Wow. Blatant fraud. I wonder why they even bothered with the molds and fakes; they might as well have just shipped bricks in the box.

  • It is not unheard of for people to make something that looks real enough to fool a person who handles returns (or buy new version and return old or broken/out of warranty), sometimes they just go for equal weight chancing it will not get inspected. If they indicate in the return that is working fine it may not be returned to the manufacture and put back on shelves and go to an unaware customer. Then the store is in a hard position, is this person lying, if not can the other be tracked down.

  • Micro Center is selling 920s for 200 dollars. :o I was going to get mine from Newegg until that happened. Lucky on two counts, now.

  • Dear goodness... good thing I bought my i7 processor from Micro Center!

  • I did, too. And I paid $60 less than New Egg was selling them for at the time.

Of course, you have to actually pick up the processor, so you have to live within driving distance of a Micro Center.

  • How cute! A toy processor!

  • The notepad is probably a stand-in for the manual/info booklet.

  • It might be there to make the final weight of the fake box match the weight of a real one.

  • Where's the link to the thread? This is interesting...

  • Newegg is aware of the issue as it is happening on a "wide scale at the company level". They instructed me to NOT order any new or replacement Core i7 until the issue is investigated and resolved.

  • Eh, a Corei7 is a little less than 300 bucks. With all the time he spent trying to prove it, he could have pulled overtime at work to pay for it.

And he obviously unloaded several hundreds of dollars to Newegg in other purchases besides the CPU.
