What's the difference in the settings between the bulk of the hair and the tufts at the front ? Do the latter have softbody ... they seem very stiff ... have they stiff vertex shading at the base ?

this was all done with curve guides. a softbody was applied to the curve guides, and the settings of the softbody itself is what causes the extra stiffness.

not that many since this was only a test. but then i aborted it because the new particle system does allow you to do similar things. actually the hair stopped following the curve guides in the following builds so i stopped doing it this way, maybe they did fix that bug by now.

to set the weight, make a bezeir curve, go into edit mode, select a point, hit "N" to bring up the transform window, and in the bottom of that window you will find the "weight" for that point. :)

I didnt, im going to do it the particle way using the SVN builds. Im actually in the process of determining some realistic softbody settings to apply to the particles now.

oh wow, i get it. i didnt know you could do that. if its not too much bother could you send me a message saying how to apply soft body effects to particles. that would save so much time when animating!

first, download the latest SVN build.

second create the hair particles, in object (f7) and particles.

third (the part you want to know)

the button next to particles is physics. Click that, and go to the "Soft Body"

Click the Drop down menu, and select the hair system, then press softbody. Thats it! now its a matter of messing with the settings (which i havent perfected yet)

I mentioned it in the text to the right of the video. Its just a bunch of curve guides, with softbodies applied to them. I had a problem with it going thru the scalp, but then realized that by weight painting the root of the curve guide, it kept it from animating it thru the scalp.

A bit tricky to figure out the weight, but I think there is a better way with the new builds.
