I don't think what's happening in EVE compares to what happened in SWG. With SWG, most of the gameplay mechanics were changed and that resulted in a massive loss in players, which I think hurt the game more than the NGE or CU ever could. What's happening in EVE is more akin to Jump to Lightspeed, but instead of bringing space to avatars, CCP are bringing avatars to space. EVE is still the same game underneath, even if the microtransactions are a fucking joke.
SWG-PRE CU IS BACK. Dont worry friends the SWGEMU will be out soon within a year. This is a real pre-cu server that has been in the works since that fatefull day november 15th. The server is in testing phases and it is quite populated.. but can always use more people.
@randy7027 CU was playable. It basically gave everything a level so it was easier to know if you could kill it. NGE is what killed the game; they completely removed like 3 or 4 professions and consolidated all the others which took away our ability to completely customize our profession trees. Sad!
my my, i never though that there such a protest that can happen in the game like SWG. thats X-tremely embarrassing for every player protesting on Bria. not accepting the update (do they mean about CU or NGE? cause one of the player i see to the far left at 2:50 says "DOWN WITH CU, IT WILL RUIN THE GAME AND MY 2 ACCOUNTS). I may not played during CU but i did played during NGE since 2008, and to me its pretty addictive. i still see many players today, so i think its too soon to say "SWG is dead"

I was on the bria server since i fist started playing when the game first came out. good times... I also started glowing with the force after getting all the badges after they chucked the holocron system... then they made jedi a starting class... fuck SOE in the ass. The old city of Cartelis is no longer in existence.

the matrix online was not a poor mmo lol it had as many players as swg n they both died around the same time they were remarkably similar amazing crafting and combat and the matrix and swg both had "the one" eg dark jedi overlord there can only be one and the light side equivilent same on the matrix one becomes neo and one the machine per server they were the best mmo's so diverse.

I loved this game, but... By the second SOE released the new NGE I hated them, badly. I have a lot of terrific memories from that game. It was also the first MMO I played. I do play WoW now, but god damn it ain't the same! It will never be! SWG is dead. Though it is hard to swallow.

I never played pre nge for more than a few mins. By the time I finally was willing to pay a monthly subscription for the game, Pre cu was dead and NGE was there. I was like "uh, i dont remember any of this crap when I tried on my friends computer..."

The new content isn't that great. Heroic instances? Have you ever played wow? It had "Heroics" a long time before SWG. The enjoyable thin's about SWG was not the content or the combat system. It was the fact it was completely original. The players made it what it was, not the professions.

@Charlehmeister It's odd to think that it's been nearly 4 years since the NGE. I've tried to play SWG several times in the past few years, and I just don't get the same enjoyment out of it as I used to.
The straw that broke the camels back for me, was the server merges. Well, I could've still played with that, but they made me change my name!
I spent 4 years on my character, invested hours and hours playing him, and then I had to rename him? That just pissed me off to no end. I quit for good.

What happened to make people leave and say the game was ruined? 2 Major 'updates' about 6 months apart in 2005 didn't go down well with a lot of the old vet's - so they quit. You know... ever since I heard they're shutting down a few servers the other day, I wonder why they don't just roll back those servers to pre-cu code and allow those to coexist with the nge servers.

At this point the vets either don't care or have such a permanent grudge against SOE and LA that they'd happily stick with buggy SWGEmu before that. Maybe due to fucking retarded devs, or an unreliable team in general, reasons vary.

Confirmed: There is supposed to be another expansion for swg.

Think about it, why would they return to the pre-cu gameplay when the majority of their subscribers today have only played the NGE.
And if there was a new expansion, they would have announced it at FanFaire. Instead they announced that story teller extension...

@williamkendrick Chill out buddy, no need to resort to name-calling. I've got the EMU installed right now, but it's just not as fun as it used to be. I applaud the efforts of the guys over there, but you can't recreate a community like that.
SOE might or might not be able to do anything about it, but LucasArts definitely can. Star Wars is their intellectual property and they're perfectly within their right to protect what they own.

We froze the server and the Devs tried to send Droideka's to get us to move lol! We owned them! How is SMEDLEY still working at SOE? Everything has failed, SWG, Matrix, Planetside all because he messed with them.

I loved this game, but... By the second SOE released the new NGE I hated them, badly. I have a lot of terrific memories from that game. It was also the first MMO I played. I do play WoW now, but god damn it ain't the same! It will never be! SWG is dead. Though it is hard to swallow.

I agree SWG was the first MMo I played and Loverd it so much. I played for a year when it first came out with the vehicles. It was AMAZING!!! I tried to play 4 years ago and the dedicated 8 classes sucked.
I am going to try it again soon and give it one last go I think just because it is the best star wars game ever.
Also, WoW doesn;t hold a candle light to this game. even with the changes

I have to admit I came back to my elder jedi...(lol elder jedi? still loving the new happy meal title we got... not) when they did free monthly fees a couple months back... was pathetic :/
gotta love how dedicated SOE was to bring newcomers into the game by throwing away a whole community of loyal veteran players :D

I never played pre nge for more than a few mins. By the time I finally was willing to pay a monthly subscription for the game, Pre cu was dead and NGE was there. I was like "uh, i dont remember any of this crap when I tried on my friends computer..."
Thats when I found out what they did. Im not a huge fan of this game. theres WAYYYYY to much agony from those players who got f*cked over. They havent "made the game better." all they are doing is putting in sh*t instances to get sh*t gear

What pissed me off most about the CU and the NGE was that SOE couldn't swallow their pride and create pre-CU servers. It was like being back at school in the way they handled it. Fucking SOE stole SWG from me. I hate them for it.
I cannot wait for the EMU to go live. I have so many good memories which i want to re-live again on the EMU.

Haha, did you even play pre nge? Vehicles we're available since patch 5... years before nge hit. And what do you mean by incredibly random?
The new content isn't that great. Heroic instances? Have you ever played wow? It had "Heroics" a long time before SWG. The enjoyable thin's about SWG was not the content or the combat system. It was the fact it was completely original. The players made it what it was, not the professions.
Please, before slating pre-nge SWG, get your facts straight.

Taking Pre-CU and CU out of the equation, though, SWG is a badass game.

@Charlehmeister It's odd to think that it's been nearly 4 years since the NGE. I've tried to play SWG several times in the past few years, and I just don't get the same enjoyment out of it as I used to.
The straw that broke the camels back for me, was the server merges. Well, I could've still played with that, but they made me change my name!
I spent 4 years on my character, invested hours and hours playing him, and then I had to rename him? That just pissed me off to no end. I quit for good.

What happened to make people leave and say the game was ruined? 2 Major 'updates' about 6 months apart in 2005 didn't go down well with a lot of the old vet's - so they quit. Numbers have been dwindling ever since, although there's a relative insurge of fresh newbies lately that might save the game.
