One thing I would like to understand is, why does a taupou have to stand on the back or the ribs of an aiuli? Taupou (tamaitai) being the apple of every Samoan man's eye (ali'i or brother to be exact)and there is also a covenance between a brother and sister, how can this be introduced as part of our performing culture? Can someone smart enough explain why this is exhibited in our dances. Thanks.
It pro'ly came about during a fale'itu. That's the only reason I can think of. But, I don't stand on any one who jumps in front of me; I just keep dancing.
ia vaai laia, e tatau ona faapea uma siva samoa o lenei tupulaga. faifai malie ae aua le soona faia. well done Toilolo's, uz hit the nail on the head with ur feminine dance.
is this the same group from the "Dances of Life" documentary? If it is yall did a great job.Everything is tight about this dance and the music too but I like how the song was performed in the documentary, with just the voices singing. One Love!
I really like the way you dance. Very beautiful, graceful and in every way how a Samoan Taupou should dance. Only thing that was a bit distracting were the singers, obviously at the middle of the song, they sounded like they were dying or something. All in all, beautiful performance. Thank you for sharing this beautiful video and I hope you continue to share our culture with the world through your dancing.
She is graceful enough however, this is part of Samoan performing arts I cannot understand. If a brother and sister are a feagaiga then why in the hell does a taupou stands on a aiuli? Can someone answer this for me? Pei lava ua sese le fa'aogaina o le feagaiga.
It's symbolic.... when an aiuli lays at a taupou's feet, he is showing his utmost respect and will to always be at her feet, to serve and protect her because she is the highly regarded taupou of the family/village. She doesn't necessarily have to stand on him, but it is rude to ignore such display of respect. The least a taupou can do is touch his back with her foot to acknowledge his action.
Your 100% correct...a Taupou is not so much a Princess but an Ambassador of her family, and village. A Taupou is a true ceremonial VIRGIN. Hence why the aumagas and aiuli's are suppose to be distant from the Taupou, she is to be untouched. E sa i le Faasamoa. But i dont know where this symbolic concept of being at her feet comes from....

I don't understand why Samoans as a group have to always rely on an pre- recorded song or the recorded song itself when performing. Do they not have traditional percussion instruments like the other Polynesian cultures? Its a pity cos they are very capable of singing great harmonic sounds in samoan but like the rest of the samoan taualuga/siva on utube, technology has taken over.
What the hell are u talking about....u dont hear them playing the song using instruments....and also singing the song on the mics....well u kno how us HAMOZ do it we sound so gosh darn good its like if we are playing a CD....however...ur dismissed with ur bull$hit....so understand this...who gives a hoot what u wanna understand....open ur FREAKEN eyes....
I think you need to open your ears sole lol. What Msc. probally meant was singing as a whole group without the keyboard, back soundtracks but with the use of a single, double beat drum.
Well thanks, for the lesson but I meant it's a pity it's too long, becos her overall movements are very graceful. Malu or no malu. Also, she has a aulelei smile. Siva Taupou is not something every girl can do either.
