  • Having huge contributions does not give one the right to play dirty politics. There is but one truth and it was unfair to do so regardless of who you are and your contributions. And anyone who challenges uncle yap's patriotism of speaking up I only can pity you for being closed minded and brainwashed. Always remember [ DISSENTION IS THE GREATEST FORM OF PATRIOTISM - Thomas Jefferson]. peace

  • FCOL..

I have wasted 5 mins of my life listening to you going on and on and on, and still have not told us what is your objection, except that there is no one to hear your objection. What is it??

Uncle, get to the point and don't waste our time.

I don't believe you know more about the election regulations than the election officers - they are just doing their job and some are probably opposition supporters too.

  • Hahaha, basically because everyone can see MM Lee's contributions in the past that whatever tactics he use now is being "overwrite" not? Just my 2 cents worth.

  • respect the MM pls, even though he may have said some words which maybe not many people agree, but pls respect him for his status and contributions, like in army, even if u dun respect the person, respect the rank pls.. and call him MM Lee, not by his name, don't think that u are someone that really very patriotic to speak up for the rest of the singaporeans, come on la "uncle yap" pls...

  • @jiujie He respect him however he is just suggesting that it is unfair under those circumstances. Plus you are paying MM Lee , he should be respecting you because without you he can't be there. Minister Mentor is not a title of address unlike Knighthood or Royalty. He is just Lee Kwan Yew, even if I spelled his name wrongly he is just a person like you and me.

  • When your mobile phone rang, you rejected the call because you prioritized this video recording. Why didn't Mr Ng prioritize the ticket submission and put aside the other candidates' call over at the table when it was so bloody important? If he can't even prioritize properly, how can he ever focus as a leader? Be realistic !

  • Before u talk about LKY this guy has build up our country to what it is today please show some respect IF u have and proof about what u say please show us else STFU u ARE LATE DEAL WITH IT dont bitch in youtube and shame SG

  • @woshibear Lee Kwan Yew is nothing without the people of Singapore, he has come up all the way here because of the people of Singapore. However as Uncle Yap stated he is following by the book which Mr Lee have used for the past years for Election. If you think he is shaming us, then you are shaming yourself for not getting the facts right because Mr Lee is following by the same book Uncle Yap is following.

  • I, too, stand corrected, but I don't see how you can make an objection unless you're any of the three groups of people who can do so? You said yourself on your blog that you're "help(ing) him only from a distance, in this election, I helped him mainly just on the Internet. To raise funds & recruit nominators." Therefore I don't see how you can win this "case".

  • @deranged58 Answer: Rights. Our Rights

  • [As quoted from Uncle Yap's blog]

(1A) Without prejudice to subsection (4), an objection to the nomination paper of a candidate or a group of candidates for election for an electoral division may only be made by —

    (a) another candidate for election for that same electoral division;

    (b) that other candidate’s proposer, seconder or any of his assentors; or

    (c) the one other person (if any) appointed in writing by that other candidate to be present on the day and at the place of nomination.

  • @uncle0yap, I sympathize with u over what happened. I'm glad u did not push the blame to LKY. Afterall, from the facts, it seems its the election officers who played dirty, not LKY. All the best for the litigation over this matter

    @JulianThePhilosopher get a life.

  • Parliamentary Elections Act

"No objection may be made (a) unless it is made to the Returning Officer between 11 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. on the day of nomination;"

"Nothing in sections 29 and 30 shall prevent the Returning Officer from exercising any of his powers under subsection (1) before 12.30 p.m. (to announce walkover) if, at 12 noon on the day of nomination for an election in any electoral division, only one candidate or one group of candidates stands nominated for that electoral division."

  • @amusedkiddtwh Mr Yap, with all due respect, there is no case whatsoever. i stand to be corrected but walkover was announced at 12.40pm. The parliamentary elections act, which i have cited portions of above, state that any objection must be raised by 12.30pm and the returning officer has the right to exercise his/her prerogative at 12pm even.

  • Normally I don't post comments on Youtube, but this GE is getting me interested in keeping up with local politics for the very first time. It would good if UncleYap could update us exactly which section of the Parliamentary Election Act is being contravened and the legal basis on which the second claim will be made.

Although I'm sympathetic to opposition causes, I stand by the side of reason and until a viable case based on facts is made, I will choose to reserve judgement on this issue.

  • @enemychaser Same story here....This whole issue reeks of spin. Just exactly who is spinning what, I hope the Courts come down to it.

  • next GE go to the nomination place at 10am ok?

  • All the best to the opposition. Though i think they only way we can get some sort of representative government is LKY dies an the PAP splits into 2, which is highly possible.

  • What the fuck i live in river valley, its gona be a walkover. That bastard lee said in "hard truths about singapore" that the only good thing about democracy is it allows change of government without violence. I guess it means i got to take up arms to get rid of this decadent, regeime. Is there anyway i can run as an inependent now ? people here nee the right to choose.

  • @JulianThePhilosopher I'm not a supporter or anything but the man did build singapore and I think that a certain level of respect should be given. Bastard's not a good word, and sometimes it's really true that he built this and we benefited from that.

  • @dangelz27 He built it. But he owns it. How can someone who serves 4 years in the army be a brigaer general. How can temasek lose so much money an not sack ho ching. The only thing he did right was got a free market going while nehru of inia when in the wrong socialist direction. I woul give a lot more respect to Goh keng swee , who built the armed forces and the HDB. As well as Dr toh.

  • @JulianThePhilosopher

Hey, I understand where your coming from and I can understand the frustrations. I guess my only concern would be the age old question that is, more transparency ? I can only agree so much with some of their policies, I believe we all would want to see better supports to why this is done this way and that is done that way.

  • @dangelz27 i do like certain views that lee holds. Like not afria to be politically correct that all men are equal. i'm just against dynastic politics. And the personal advantages given to LKY and his family members.

  • @JulianThePhilosopher "Fuck" and "bastard", have you ever washed your mouth with acid? I think it would not be cleaned. You must be a wayside philosopher.

  • its not about how last min or how he raised the money.. its about how this case was unfairly handled..

best of luck to the opposition..

  • This show how disrespectful the Nomination Officer's was... and worst they slip past uncle yap and even announce LKY walkover... Cant wait for the Court's Hearing it would really make a drastic change in the political society... AWESOME!!!

  • @exaltdragon U can argue tt they could have raised the money a few month back, but have u considered that are citizens/donors that concerned about the elections a few months back? Only by relying on the recent hype of the GE, can the opposition get enough support from the donors. U've to understand that its hard for opposition to get their fundings because there are plenty of people out there who are afraid that showing monetary support to the opposition will incur the wrath of the ruling party

  • Base on UNCLEYAP explanation, i feel that the officers are lack of CSV(Customer Service Values). They should clearly explain the process, in which time plays an important element in terms processing a candidate at that point. I think the election dept need to look into this and resolve it accordingly. And to some of you here, 10 20 thousands is a lot of money unless your rich. To raise money to be in the contest is a noble act. it relfex how Singaporean work together n help them to contest

  • @faythzfay I agree with your point about the process needing elaboration, but they should have anticipated the bad service after the James Gomez fiasco. Further, if the candidate doesn't even have the financial security to take 16,000 out of his own pocket, he has no business borrowing it from the public at the 11th hour and risk losing that money if he can't get the votes. What if he can't pay them back? Noble? More like rash. There are a lot of questions that need to be asked, that's for sure.

  • thank you for posting the truth. though puzzled why the rumours that you guys were late when i actually saw live tweet that the party arrived 1130+

since we've been openly ignored by the garment, what can we expect when you are behind their closed doors.

fortunately we've other media grounds to make this heard

  • 10 people are PAP supporters....

  • I can see that you put a lot of effort into nomination and giving the residents here a chance to vote. I appreciate that. But I think that if you want to win support, you should give a very clear and precise description of how you objected. Netizens aren't gonna be won over by such a vague description and you've already lost support because you were so late; government dogs having a feast over your corpse. Prove them wrong. Show the public how you are right with that written objection.

  • they don't even have enough money to pay for the deposit and you want them to make court-case? hahaha.... this is some "serious" opposition.

By the way, I am from Tanjong pagar GRC and I will vote PAP because this opposition is a joke and you do not know the ways in which LKY have improved our lives.

  • don waste yor time.silly...show off..

  • Why rushed to announce LKY walkover?

They can even do that tonight or this afternoon. The entire nomination hall were full of waiting nomination crowd as they TREATED LKY's WalkOver Saga with HIGHEST PRIORITY! Why?

  • @uncle0yap your english sucks.

  • @1236923 Your vocab is poor. It should be Your English is Poor.

  • @uncle0yap Uncle Yap I understand it is unfair but this matter can still be brought up am i right?

  • They did not even come to the counter! How to give them anything in writing?

They sent only policemen to the counter to demand us to leave!

The flaw here is the whole hall of PAp & Oppositions were seated to wait for nomination process while the entire Lee Kuan Yew nomination saga played, can you then say that ALL of them are rejected because nomination closed at 12PM?

  • @uncle0yap i hope you don't feel as though you guys have failed. you have succeeded in uploading these 2 videos. regardless of which 'side' we support, singaporeans deserve to know the truth and demand transparency.

  • @uncle0yap So they saw you without any written, and chose to ignore you? That's awfully high, but can you say that you had informed them adequately of your intention to object, and that your objection fulfilled all of the required conditions as per the statute. It's not very clear in your video exactly how you objected. It sounds like you were there saying "objection" but they ignored you.

  • @uncle0yap I say, show us that objection paper, which is proof that you had the right format of objection. Are you are saying that every single PAP there, aside from Tanjong Pagar, was technically late? If so then how did you submit yours in time? Whatever the case, make your move quickly, the opponent is already 3 steps ahead of you.

  • @uncle0yap eh hu are u to comment about our nation builder? Are u even fit to call urself a Singaporean? Although there are a minority that does not like PAP but that doesn't mean tat we 4get abt wad MM Lee did for us. As a history and social studies student i respect him and also the PAP for supporting our society and also the community of Singaporeans :D

  • @justintmc1996 stop and think please, freedom of speech. He have every right to comment, and could you please be more open minded about the fact that people have different point of view politically , Please respect it and he is a Singaporean who is willing to voice his opinion. Please apologize for the first two sentence you said about him, its not nice and you may get sued actually.

  • fark.. did you give the returning office the objection in writing, on a piece of paper or something? You sound like you were just shouting "objection" instead of handing over a piece of paper.. what about the requirement that you had some backing to your objection? You need to explain with more details.

  • @exaltdragon that is irrelevant. the nomination officer was not at his desk, so no objection whatsoever was possible. if the officer was present and had rejected the objection for whatever reason, it would have been another matter, but he wasn't present to begin with.

  • @anfield22 It's relevant according to the law quoted. I can foresee this devolving into a debate of what constitutes an objection. Is physically being at the desk, in and of itself, considered an objection ? I doubt it. It's that piece of writing that's the objection. If his actions do not constitute an objection, it's not the returning officer's job to entertain him. I assume the officer's job is to receive objections, not fail attempts at objections. But let us hear what uncleyap has to say.

  • @exaltdragon you are questioning whether his objection was legitimate, which is on the pretense that he managed to make his objection in the first place. you said "if his actions do not constitute an objection, it's not the returning officer's job to entertain him" which is false. the returning officer's job is to 'entertain' him in any case, because only by 'entertaining' him would he be able to assess whether his actions constitute an objection or not.

  • Comment removed

  • @anfield22 I'll put this in since my previous comment appears to have disappeared ^^; Why so serious?

The questioning isn't was it "legimate". The questioning was whether it was an objection at all. If it can't be seen as an objection, legitimate or no, then one will fault the returning officer for not noticing him. As the video clearly indicates, there were other things going on with the returning officer. The video doesn't say anything about where or what the officer is supposed to do.

  • @exaltdragon This just sucks. This was supposed to be my first opportunity to vote and this shit happens. what bothers me most is this:

    (6) If the Returning Officer disallows any objection, his decision shall be final and conclusive and shall not be called in question in any court; but if he allows the objection, his decision shall be subject to reversal on an application under section 90.

"final and conclusive" Sounds like uncle yap's gonna have a hard time fighting his case.
