  • @omzicon usually it is risky. for example you play against a Ryu and he can Shoryuken almost any Ultra. for example I'd like a Super meter better than a Ultra meter. With Balrog one could do jab, dash, super. and it's a blockstring and the opponent has less time to react to the jab. The opponent has more time to react when you activate the Ultra because there's also the time freeze screen, has more time to think too.

  • @Renic, Do you apply plinking and option selects? What techniques have you picked up for the sf4 series?

  • U2 does a lot of chip, I think there were a few times where throwing it out on the opponent's wakeup would have gotten you the win.

  • Another safe jump setup (5f I think). If you get a back throw that puts you in the corner, hold up, do a nj.fp.

  • After Cammy does a back throw, cannon strike is crossup. Against Sim, you should OS EX Slide after f.mp after knockdown. If he teleports, depending on your timing your slide will hit him, if he backdashes, your slide will hit him, and if he blocks you hit him with f.mp for frame traps. Against Boxer, your only options are to wait until you get close to frame trap him to death. He was a terrible wakeup so do as I said in the last video and frame trap with f.mp st.mp ~ cr.hk for knockdown.

  • Hey try using EX slide to make people afraid to stand on wake up. Sometimes i stand back like im gonna jump in and use ex slide instead.

    As for cammy, I remember down M kick, being useful for sliding around and messing up where they think im gonna be.

  • I think for cammy you have to be more aggressive than her but careful not to really over extend yourself. I have a lot of issues with her but the least with my honda

  • The best way to finish people with low life with Cody is to use your Ultra 2. It does a lot of chip to kill people when they block. Just make sure you are close enough and they are already blocking. 

  • Try using criminal upper > Super. I notice you use criminal upper a lot but never link it with super when you have full meter

    few tips as a cody main. 1: learn the st.mp (2f link) into cr. mp into crim upper. use mp tornado for meter, and hp tornado for damage. 2. subscribe to Packz. he has a bunch of option selects that are really helpful, especially against shotos, dhalsim, akuma, and c viper.

  • Hey renic. I said I was going to comment on these videos with my progress, but today was the first day I really got to play a good set of matches. I played about 20 or so online as Chun-Li and I won I think 2 of them. I had a great time though, and was really proud of some of the decisions I was making, even if they didn't lead to a win. I was able to react to a fireball with Ultra 1 and finally got my anti-airs down. For a first day of SF4 I think I did decently. So thanks for these videos man.

  • if you immediately do a jump forward heavy kick right after a back throw, it becomes a meaty and is safe on black. I don't think it works on characters like ryu, ken, and akuma because their dp is like 3f or something quick

  • start using low fierce after hit confirmed jump ins so you are sure to get a cancel able normal instead of the accidental far fierce when going for close fierce. also for the love of god use close fierce, low strong xx fierce criminal upper when you punish. there is no reason to not go for that extra damage. a baby could do that link. every hit with cody needs to be for max damage or max stun, these jab jab jab jab low short combos are weak.

  • When you are playing against fireball characters is zone while keeping a zonk knuckle charge . Go play with the distance . F+mp link into cr.lk , A typical rushdown with Cody is 3x cr.lp, whiff f+hk , 3x cr.lp , f+mp , cr.lk , criminal upper . Throw those rocks

  • Just in case no one has said it renic. You get a safe jump after a backthrow with Cody. Use it, it's a great tool. Of course it won't work on 3 frames but everyone else it's good. J.rh btw

  • A nice option-select you can use against Cammy is when you're trying to tech a grab, instead of pressing LP+LK (stand tech) or crouching LP+LK (crouch tech) you can press crouching LP+HP+LK. This will let you tech throws, and if she isn't throwing you a crouching HP will come out, letting you any air her divekicks. Just remember not to use this too much; crouching HP has a fair amount of startup (7 frames), so its easy for Cammy to counterhit you out of it if she chooses to stay on the ground.

  • ReNic, you can also do Cody's ultra 2 after ex zonk knuckle. You wont get the full animation, but it tacks on some extra damage. It would have killed your opponent at 5:08 .

  • I honestly believe this game is so random that matchups rarely exist. Not intending to bash, just my honest opinion. As for your question, she has huge frame advantage if she hits at your waist or below. Its fucked up, she practically has 50/50 setups after a spike since you have to tech like mad and possibly risk eating a huge combo.

  • A few options for the back throw safe jump:

    Jump HK with a buffered MK ruffian, option selects backdashes

    Jump LP to tick throw or jabs

    Nothing, a little better against characters with 3 frame DP

    Deep HP knife, can option select this one too.

  • After a back throw with cody you get a free safe jump setup, just do a jumping round house and aim for the toes, but sdont even try on 3 frame uppercut characters. (Ryu, Ken, AKuma.) etc. But keeping the pressure up is extremely important. You are doing great keep it up!

  • And I know a setup for Meaty HP. After EX Zonk Knucle, do 2 dashes forward and immediatelly press HP.

  • Okay, there are some things that you still are not using. When you do the back throw, you get a free safe jump! And it's easy! You throw and immediately jumps on the oponent, anyone, except shotos and DJ with EX, can't punish you're jump. Please, use it more.

    And you can focus those Cannon Spike/Strike (dive kick). Don't know if it will be useful, but if you can use it, good job.

  • Renic you have the advantage to access to learn from the best. I'll be honest, SF is not a game about guessing or doing the maximum combo. Look at Alex Valle, his Ryu is so solid and basic, but Valle is a player with the most impressive reads of all times.

    Did you read that article Gootecks left on eventhubs I think after he came from Japan? about the pressure games he learned? It's something basic in all FGs : pressure and distance: traps and baits.

    So those r what make great player imo.

  • At 9:33, I imagine you tried to do stand HP xx criminal upper as your combo? Crouch HP works way better in these situations... it does the same damage as stand HP and if you aren't going to link a normal after it (because of range issues like this), it will never whiff or get uncancelable far HP.

  • In the Cammy match in the first half, several times you could have anti-air U2 when she had little health. You don't have to worry about using b+MP and hitting an EX cannon strike or something. If they jump, just ultra. Only the dust will hit, but if it will be enough to kill them, that's all that matters. Try standing at jump-in range and seeing what they do, like you did at 3:56. If they jump, easy!

  • Be on the lookout for divekicks that hit heigh, they are NOT safe. Best way to look out for them is when they do divekick not on your wakeup, because because both are moving and they cannot hit it just as easily. On wakeup they can go from setups, so if you anticiptae crossup, dash out of it. Reg cannon strike can be handled by cr.mp, c.lp, st.lp, b.mp, hk ruff. EX however is WAY harder to deal with. Just block this or hk.rf. They wil try to frametrap you with this. focus backdash pretty useful.

  • @AeolusMN Cr.mk let's slide under divekicks, however make sure you are close enough to them when they jump, because otherwise you won''t go under the divekick, so yes really watch your spacing with this. b.mp isn't that great against cammy overall, because you get hit easliy in the recovery frames unlike the alternatives i mentioned.

  • yea, switching between rocks and anti air defence and burst rush is codies best bet. if they know when your going to jump forward, they are ready.

  • on cammies cannon spike, if shes in your face and does it twice in a row, you can predict the second ones "probably coming" and the moment you see her going up, throw heavy crack kick, will that come out in time? i dono.

  • hey renic, at the end of the round you can chip them out on their wake-up with U2. the only thing they can do is try to ultra back, but in most cases they will try to jump, or just not know what to do. it works every time for me

  • stay grounded against DP chars, use more rocks! took me a long time to learn but cody does have a zoning game. use standing HK as an anti air to keep them back, make them come to you use rocks to bait heavy ruffian FADC for anti air punish. on hrd knock downs in sweep distance you can throw light rocks to catch ppl pressing buttons, bait dp whif punnish or fake rocks to bait ultras. learn tatics learn when you need to ruch down and when you need to zone, and your cody will go places! keep it up

  • The best cody tip I can give? Use english cody.

  • Against Cammy you can kinda feel free to pressure her on the ground after knockdowns. Many meaties beat out her DP on the ground where it's not as strong.

    That's something that really helped me to stop giving her too much respect when she was getting up, just don't jump at her.

  • i think playing a lil more defensive would help you out.. Cody has really good anti air moves... back strong, far roundhouse, HK ruffian, cr. fierce, and throwing rocks is decent for zoning and forcing players to jump.

  • Against cammy play a little more defensive. Cammy has a very big issue with anyone that can hold down back with a life lead because she has no overhead. Also try to focus her cannon spikes so shes not so well positioned.

  • Standing Jab or if they missplace it, another standing normal with a horizontal hitbox against divekicks. Learn from KoF.

  • Your using a frame-trap heavy character, maybe learn your frame data?

  • Use the HK Ruffian kick for anti-air against Cammy more. It's still tough, but I think bk MP is harder to time. Try using Cody's slide more to change your position so her cannon spike misses or you just flat out anti-air her. As for EX Zonk... yeah, I wish Cody had an uppercut, too T_T

  • HKRuffian is the closest uppercut. It comes out the fastest so it'll either stuff or trade in your favor.

    Bison: Cr.MK stuffs scissors fairly easy and if you get a knockdown on him, nj.HP him to death. Cr.mk can also evade headstomp if timed right for a punish.

    Cammy: HK Ruffian wrecks Cammy's jump ins. Frustrate her with rocks and ruffians to bait arrows. U1 is better for this match, imo because Cammy is airborne a lot so you don't get a lot of chances to land U2. Try dashing under the dives.
