When I was a little girl, probably 4 or 5 years old, my grandmother took me to see the Budweiser Clydesdales. I was so excited! They were so sweet and so beautiful. One of the owners picked me up and put me on top the horse. It was so warm and soft. I love horses, especially the big draft horses!
..nun hier siehst Du Shire Horses.
Everyone against showing these horses have no idea what they are on about. They wouldn't even be here if breeders hadn't revived the failing numbers after the industrial revolution. These are beautiful animals in the hieght of condition. Not every horse isso lucky
Not only are these beautiful creatures bored to death doing what the humans want them to do for sake of entertainment BUT they should be loose roaming free in God's beautiful pastures.
@TulipsBloomIn If they were running free in large pastures and not handled by humans, most of them would go lame from lack of hoofcare and starve to death, be predated in deep snow or possibly die of tetanus, complications of foaling, dental disease, become mired in swamps etc... The nutrition requirement alone would limit their ability to survive as they can't live on what a Shetland pony or Mustang manages on. Romantic notion, but...
@kamikazedjali , thank you for replying to my comment & keeping it civil. I see your point and you're right-- human attention is NEEDED in order to care for such gorgeous animals! I'm sorry my previous comment was merely from a selfish standpoint-- I just envision such beautiful creatures running free away from circus shows, annual barn showing & etc,etc.......... Romantic notion? Hardly.
I would love to do that. Walking around and showing yourself and knowing that everyone is looking at you! And you can often tell if a dog/horse likes it or not...
These horses don't want to be shown off, they want ride in the night mounted by a brave man in a suit of armor with a shining sword and Bronze shield while trotting towards victory in a land of war.
@solidturckie@canterrob These are Shires actually. Not Brabanders and not Belgians, I have looked up both and they both look distinctly different to Shires. These guys are an English breed. They display heavy feathering, and a head unique to Shires and Clydesdales only.
They looked like older Clydesdale(they don't really look like Shires to me) and then maybe some yearlings. You also have to remember the yearlings havn't filled out yet, so they will look more slender. :D
i think they;re shire horses because the way they have their mane and tail braided with the things stickin up from them is a trade mark shire thing. fresians are far leaner than shires and normally not as tall
czemu tak krótko ścina im sie ogony? konisko dość dziwnie wygląda i pewnie podobnie się czuje. Kolejny zapęd w poprawianie natury? A poza tym to Aj luv shires!

@GrayWolf641 : because when the horse is working on a plow it runs the risk of getting the tail caught. the tails are docked for saftey and show. Some of these horses did not have docked tails- but they were braided all the way up to hide the hair and show off the hindquarters...
