In Europe we pay Gas an average of 8$ per gallon...don't complain....also the poorest 3rd world country and China pays oil as US pays it. The problem is that oil, gas and energy in general are inefficiently used in US. Cities and towns are made to use cars as much as possible, cars are to big with poor inefficient big engines (65! is the limit! don`t need a 6V 250hp!). While I have seen so many thermo/solar panels as in china lost countryside, while I still haven't seen one here in US!

Take for example, a $35 ink catridge containing 5ml of ink, per gallon that costs over $26,000, that bottled water costs can cost upwards of $10 or more per gallon depending on size and brand.....I could go on and on but it gets depressing.

@AmiableAndy an alternative is hydrogen. It burns cleaner, has more BTU's, and is the most abundunt element in the universe including here on this planet. Its in the air, and in the water. A company like Air Products, Airgas, and Praxair could produce all the hydrogen we could use. The gov't needs a sound energy policy instead of leaving up to the "market".

In Europe we pay Gas an average of 8$ per gallon...don't complain....also the poorest 3rd world country and China pays oil as US pays it. The problem is that oil, gas and energy in general are inefficiently used in US. Cities and towns are made to use cars as much as possible, cars are to big with poor inefficient big engines (65! is the limit! don`t need a 6V 250hp!). While I have seen so many thermo/solar panels as in china lost countryside, while I still haven't seen one here in US!

@afghansoul I am too. Reaching $4 in AZ but if you really think about it, compared to other items you buy, gas is relatively cheap on a per gallon basis. Take for example, a $35 ink catridge containing 5ml of ink, per gallon that costs over $26,000, that bottled water costs can cost upwards of $10 or more per gallon depending on size and brand.....I could go on and on but it gets depressing.

The high gas prices are caused by speculators that bet on gasoline ans oil futures
with a very small margin requirement who are 95% of the traders. Only 5% are actually going to take delivery on the product. There's no oil shortage. Until the fed gov't addresses the trading issue, you'll pay up at the pump and a few traders will make a ton of money. Oil and gasoline futures are a joke.

@AmiableAndy an alternative is hydrogen. It burns cleaner, has more BTU's, and is the most abundunt element in the universe including here on this planet. Its in the air, and in the water. A company like Air Products, Airgas, and Praxair could produce all the hydrogen we could use. The gov't needs a sound energy policy instead of leaving up to the "market".

Electricity it is already the best way to transport energy into your house...and into your car if you don't want to pollute your city...but somewhere else you need to produce that energy some miles away from you city

@lollotro To produce electricty you spend other energy. Nuclear, hydraulic, solar, wind, all expend other energy to produce and run these sources. Uranium must me mined, the equipment to mine it etc, hydraulic, you have to build it, service turbines, etc, solar and wind, you must produce the equipment to operate these systems.
So your arguement is flawed. There's not one energy production system that doesn't use other ernergy to produce and maintain the system. I deliver to power plants I see

@interstategar Hydrogen is produced by the process of ELECTROLYSIS, wherein electricity passes through water,separating hydrogen and oxygen molecules. We need to improve the efficiency of the electrolysis process itself (still workin' on it), but more importantly--FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE ELECTRICITY CHEAPLY ENOUGH so that hydrogen can be a COST-EFFECTIVE FUEL! And current solar-electric power generation is STILL FAR AWAY from being efficient enough to supply it at an economically tenable price!!

The offshore drilling rigs are now leased by PetrolBras of Brazil and they gain the product for themselves. The seas are not any safer either since they still pump 24/7. I agree that we need to "home grow" too, but wee also need very badly to keep drilling and transition a little at a time. It can't be changed overnight.

God dammit Obama just dump 1/4 of the strategic reserves and subsidize a Fisher Tropsch plant.
We can get out of this quagmire by destroying the greedy oil speculators making them go broke.
Oil from coal and shale is profitable at $45 a barrel it can save our economy.
As for bio fuels switch grass is far more effective then corn.
On hybrid they are a poor solution instead small diesels running on biodiesel is the best solution.
But energy must be cheap or there will be no economic recovery.

yeah...please let's stop feeding the BEAST called OIL......it has done so much harm to america....we need a WAR on OIL.....oil is doing everything it can 2 keep us in bondage and only if we see it as the enemy can we begin to fight....NASA USES SOLAR on space exploration.....solar has already proven how much energy it can produce
