I don't know if there's a thing called "mainstream metal." Metal just isn't meant to be commercial; the majority of the populace considers it noise (exceptions made for Iron Maiden). Some metal bands put out decidedly rock-sounding songs though like Metallica.

there is a lot of good new in flames. i think most would agree that a lot of new in flames is really great. the part where people get confused though when people complain is because the old stuff is so much better at the same time, so whenever you compare the two periods of the band you can't help but feel like the new shit sucks, and people complain more because of how much they loved the old stuff, not so much because they hate the new shit.

Wow, A Sense of Purpose was always good and so are all their other albums, you just have to get into it and listen to the songs a second time,i was disappointed by Sounds of a Playground Fading at first, I listened to it again and its fuckin awesome, i listen to in flames everyday.
