@AegeanKing Ι m not sure if he(Notaras) had in his mind his people or the survival of his church.Really I m not sure if th 400 hundred years of slavery,the cultural and educational status of the modern Greeks worthed the denial of Papism.The Byzantine and orthodox culture was so strong and huge that would revive again through the Papic "slavery".We ve done it again when the Romans conquered us.On the other ,it is true that the denial of Greeks (and others of course) to lose their religion ...

As I understand it, the GOC does not recognise Catholic orders but the ROC does. This does seem to indicate that the Orthodox need to unite themselves first.

be glad greeks! at least they are christian churches and not MOSQUES. i am lebanese orthodox and my country is slowly getting overrun by mosques. we would kill for them to be catholic churches. be joyful bretheran for god has put catholics in greece for a reason. maybe we will reunite. peace

As for the past, there was the Frankolatin occupation of Greece for sometime. The impressive thing is that almost nothing has survived despite their efforts.
