  • I like this. I like the colour too. It is typically 50's without being too garish. Weren't the Edsels basically a restyled Fairlane (or something similar) by this time?

  • @rx6180 Hey, Mick! Edsels were very unique, resembling very little in 58, their first year..this model is much more conservative, yet still fairly unique, built on the Ford chassis. The last very short year of production, 1960, looked very much like the full sized Ford, with the exception of grille, tailights and inside and outside trim. By November 1960, the car was history. Thanks! :) Jack

  • I never understood why Edsels got so much bad PR. My dad, a class A mechanic, told me he didn't see a disproportionate amount in the shops for repairs. Another thing about Edsels, whenever Dad or Mon saw one, they'd say, "Charlie was right!" but they would never tell me what that was about...???

  • @rogerstill71 Hey, Roger! I agree...the mechanicals were straight from Ford's parts bins, the only different system was the pushbutton controls for the automatic in the steering column. Mercury had a similar arrangement on the dash at the time. I think the problem was the styling of the 58 was too different to find wide acceptance. That was corrected by the 59...but often when cars get off to a rough start, it's too late to get the public excited again. Thanks! :) Jack

  • What a beautiful car gota love late 50's Fords!

  • @mrdestoryit I agree..they definitely had their own personalities! Thanks! :) Jack

  • I like the 59's the best. They look better than the intro 58 Edsel. Thanks for sharing Jack.

  • @55lincoln Hey, Warren! Yes indeed...I think it was distinctive enough without being shocking like the 58 was. Too bad it wasn't the introductory model. Thanks! :) Jack

  • It's not a Bermuda wagon, but it'd do... My twelve year old son (1)asked if lots of cars came pink back then. I said yes. (2) really liked the Mustang in the background...

  • @Taranau Cool! I'm glad you've got your son involved...that's what it's all about, sharing with the next generation! There were a lot of cool Mustangs there that day..at the all FoMoCo show! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Looks in very nice shape but those wheels really don't suit this car. I do like that the owner has kept this car in great shape but ... :P

  • @cheddyrod Hey, Chester! For some reason, Edsels seem to be prone to substantial modification by their owners. Agreed. it could stand to have the old wheels back, but at least that's doable without too much of a problem, depending on the availability of those wheel covers. Thanks! :) Jack

  • They resembled a 59 Ford more than the 58 did as they looked more like the merc from that year still very unique.

  • @monarch1957 Hey, Barry! Very true...they lost that very special identity they had at inception, resembling more FoMoCo products at this point, but still somewhat different. Thanks! :) Jack

  • Look Honey! I bought one of those new Cars from From another planet! Haha

  • @gene978 Hey, Gene! Now that you mention it...LOL! That would be a novel exhibit at a car show...a little green man sitting in the driver's seat! Thanks! :D Jack

  • @raconter1 LOLOLOLOL

  • @gene978 LOL! :D Jack
