The damage is extremely unrealistic. GT5 was a waste of time, developement wise. The actual driving itself does not accurately mimic a cars manueverability.

gt5 is more real and less tunner crashe and flash than the others they got real stats for cars real modles and accurate info . its been that way since the beginning .. this is the godfather of modern console racers that are accurate ( burnout and whatnot are more wreckem up racers) this game is good .
Thing is this game is meant to be realistic ! In real life your not going to be going around crashing your Lamborgini just to see the damage, the damage is ment to be racing damage that happens as you race , not as you spend 5 minutes crashing into walls and the saying "GT5 sucks damage is bad n00B Forza FTW", Gt5 is realistic and realistic is good.

It sucks because GT5 took a 6 years to make and it has loads of crappy stuff in it, Bad Damage, Confusing comic book arranged menu, porn music for the used car dealership, REALLY long loading times and your own car is silent whilst all the cars around you are really loud, No cockpit view for nearly all the cars, and the AI suck, they are violent, and slow down loads if you tap them in the bumper. And still go really fast on the last lap ina final effort to beat you or knock you off the track.

I've actually just started playing this game (*finally*). I've played Arcade mode first to get myself acquainted (although it's a bit the same as the psp version). I've watched the replay, and I was a bit baffled because it looks grainy and pixelated, the trees are obviously unrealistic, the people on the sidestreets look pasted. I thought graphics are top notch in GT5 but why does it look old? Does the graphics differ from Arcade mode and GT mode?

@9lash GT5's final damage got taken out from the release. But both of these titles aren't perfect with crashes. If you're driving 50 mph and hit a wall with a stock car it should be game over.
Driving and crashing are two whole different things... or they should be. You don't want to crash. Yes there is rubbing and shoving damage which I think PD makes brilliantly. If all you want to do is take a Veyron at 250mph and smash it into a wall then GT5 is not the game for you.

Since when did Racing games become more about damage than the racing? GT5 has better physics and more cars than Forza 3, Forza 3 doesn't have good racing and it also has worse damage on all cars compared to GT5 Premium, when I crash into something at 60MPH and only my front hits the barrier, I don't want to see all my paint become scratched, and parts that weren't effected fly off my car.
@SomeStrangeCritter I think you have to unlock it at such a high level because of the car manufacturer's pressure. The only way GT5 could have realistic damage is getting permission from the car manufacturers. They didn't want people just buying the game and crashing expensive cars. Polyphony saved the real damage for the people who actually play the game. This is also why I think the Veyron is a standard car. But this is just my guess. Don't hold me to anything.

From what I see in feedback it is generally agreed that the engine sound and damage effects are two of the most disappointing features of GT5. As far as I'm concerned, the lack of damage realism is the biggest problem from a "simulator" point of view. It allows drivers to behave irresponsibly on the track without serious consequence IMHO.

@sheraton68 No i meant on Gt5 you can make them bounce at least 10 metres in the air just by going forward and breaking hard. If you reverse and turn and then break u can almost get it to do a fucking backflip. It's the most realistic driving game, but it's still not "REAListic".
Sadly, this is the most detailed damage the game offers. Only the three premium WRC rally cars even have doors/trunks/hatches open, and the doors are the only parts that fall off.
@PrimeroSocialismo Because what these simulation games focus on is on making you drive properly, not crash the car just for fun. For that you can play Burnout. Plus, don't forget that Polyphony had problems with the car manufacturers and damage, since said car makers did not want damage depicted on their vehicles just because of the fear of risking their marketing strategies.
You can commit mistakes while driving, but the crashing part of the game is NOT necessary to make a real simulator.

On a simulator, what really matters are the DRIVING, BRAKING, and HANDLING physics, which are in this new installment far superior than most, if not all of its competitors. And that's why Polyphony relies on the "The Real Driving Simulator" slogan.

@xxmrbloodxx but you can modify ever car in the game. racing mod is essentially only for cosmetic purposes, it paints the car so it looks like a touring car. You can swap parts, super charge, change suspension, transmission et cetera, et cetera, on nearly every car in the game.

@9lash GT5's final damage got taken out from the release. But both of these titles aren't perfect with crashes. If you're driving 50 mph and hit a wall with a stock car it should be game over.

Driving and crashing are two whole different things... or they should be. You don't want to crash. Yes there is rubbing and shoving damage which I think PD makes brilliantly. If all you want to do is take a Veyron at 250mph and smash it into a wall then GT5 is not the game for you.

@radaja2003 It doesn't have damage because Kazunori Yamauchi had to release the game before the damage was done, so they released it with just a little damage, I think in just a year... It would have damn good damage.

Like I said, If all you want to do is smash a car into a wall at 300mph, GT5 is not the game for you. EVEN IN NASA's SPACE SHUTTLE SIMULATOR, WHEN YOU HIT THE GROUND THERE IS NO DAMAGE. I'd like to see you call that not a simulator lol
Go take your Forza and smash expensive cars into a wall at 300mph because apparently that is a "simulation" for you :)

@DaHakaRulz ehm, you are forgetting something, its a driving SIMULATOR, so crashing is a really big part in it, never seen races on tv? they crash allot you know! atleast a little bit of realistic dmg should be aplied here, like, paint coming off atleast, but i aint even seeing any scratch on that paintjob!

Since when did Racing games become more about damage than the racing? GT5 has better physics and more cars than Forza 3, Forza 3 doesn't have good racing and it also has worse damage on all cars compared to GT5 Premium, when I crash into something at 60MPH and only my front hits the barrier, I don't want to see all my paint become scratched, and parts that weren't effected fly off my car.

This is the only thing that I remotely don't like about gt5... Grid may be worse in every other way but the damage modelling is amazing in that game.

@SomeStrangeCritter I think you have to unlock it at such a high level because of the car manufacturer's pressure. The only way GT5 could have realistic damage is getting permission from the car manufacturers. They didn't want people just buying the game and crashing expensive cars. Polyphony saved the real damage for the people who actually play the game. This is also why I think the Veyron is a standard car. But this is just my guess. Don't hold me to anything.
Plus, this game rocks.

From what I see in feedback it is generally agreed that the engine sound and damage effects are two of the most disappointing features of GT5. As far as I'm concerned, the lack of damage realism is the biggest problem from a "simulator" point of view. It allows drivers to behave irresponsibly on the track without serious consequence IMHO.

@dwayne5495 Drive? 1.- I'm underage for real life. 2- I don't play driving simulators. 3-. This game is NOT realistic, you can make a fucking 4x4 bounce from wheel to wheel. Only good thing about this game is the graphics. And yes i DO own it, and i have played it. And it got boring in about half an hour. It's identical to Prologue if not worse.

@sheraton68 No i meant on Gt5 you can make them bounce at least 10 metres in the air just by going forward and breaking hard. If you reverse and turn and then break u can almost get it to do a fucking backflip. It's the most realistic driving game, but it's still not "REAListic".

Sadly, this is the most detailed damage the game offers. Only the three premium WRC rally cars even have doors/trunks/hatches open, and the doors are the only parts that fall off.

@PrimeroSocialismo Because what these simulation games focus on is on making you drive properly, not crash the car just for fun. For that you can play Burnout. Plus, don't forget that Polyphony had problems with the car manufacturers and damage, since said car makers did not want damage depicted on their vehicles just because of the fear of risking their marketing strategies.
You can commit mistakes while driving, but the crashing part of the game is NOT necessary to make a real simulator.

@PrimeroSocialismo To be a real simulator you DON'T need damage. GT5 was close to not having any damage because that's just a complimentary feature. On a simulator, what really matters are the DRIVING, BRAKING, and HANDLING physics, which are in this new installment far superior than most, if not all of its competitors. And that's why Polyphony relies on the "The Real Driving Simulator" slogan.

@xxmrbloodxx Yeah they have to basically design a whole new car for the racing modification soo they cant do it for every car and most cars you can add wings and bumpers etc. on but I do hate the standard cars where you cant have cockpit view.

@xxmrbloodxx but you can modify ever car in the game. racing mod is essentially only for cosmetic purposes, it paints the car so it looks like a touring car. You can swap parts, super charge, change suspension, transmission et cetera, et cetera, on nearly every car in the game.

exelente juego , pero los daños medio feos , en el race driver grid ahi si esta bueno el sistema de daños , ojo no confundir para mi el gt5 es uno sino el mejor simulador de carreras, pero el sistema de daños es deficiente, se nota que todabia las masrcas de autos que dan las licencias para que los hagan en el juego no les gust verlos todos rotos , mal mal mal , grid esta mucho mejrp eñl sistema de daños.

@alemachu yo creo que no lo han hecho porke para hacerlo bien seria una tarea titanica para ke se deforme cada coche de forma diferente y esas cosas. por lo demas es un juegazoo yo e jugado a el forza y ahora al gt5 y la verdad la conduccion ke es para mi lo importante el gt5 es mucho mejor. yo juego con volante y el gt5 da unas sensaciones muy buenas. cierto ke el sistema de daños no esta bien pero a mi me da igual jejeje

@enrike206 si tal cual no critico al juego , es genial su jugabilidad , el diseño de los coches , es un juegazo al fin y al cabo , pero deja un poco que desear en ese sentido , el de los daños , cuando anunciaron que iva a tener un buen sistem de daños donde los coches se destrozarian, o por lo menos lo lei asi en mi revista fichinera, quien dice la verdad no lo se jejej, pero el juego es un 10 totalmente.
