This tempo is more the parade tempo and even still seems a tad fast. I'll remember British Eighth as long as live. We marched to it in contest at the 1967 Harvard Milk Day parade in Harvard Wisconsin. They painted the street white. The heat was unbearable and it was uphill. The 8th was such a stirring march I think it pulled us through. We won.
Much better dynamics than most! Descant Trumpet needs to project. Try a trio on Descant Trumpet part. Tempo on part 2 started out great, then..... rushed to the end.
Other than that - articulation, attack, dynamics, balance, everything else nice job !
@Victrevor2 I know this. Hence "Trumpet" singular noun. I'm in ninth grade and play this in my band. I'm also first, so i know the part divides. Don't get me wrong, the whole thing was Very good. They did a fantastic job. All I was saying was that I could've heard that one trumpet a bit more. Despite the size of the band. But overall, they did very good!
@Jaydabeast5000 But when talking about a part it's singular, like first part, second part, etc. I thought that's what you meant. But yeah like you said the band is big, and one out of four on the high octave, it's going to have some trouble being heard. lol.
If I had a dime for every time I've conducted this piece, I'd be rich. This is a VERY fine performance. Tempos are a little fast, (in my opinion) but interpretation is up to the conductor. Again, NICE job!!!
In contrast to the American march, "British" marches are slower then 120 and played less strident (not as much separation between notes). The irony of this "British" march is the composer is American.
If I write a post and try to send it and it says at that moment that YouTube is not available, will it send the message when YouTube DOES become available or does it just erase it to where there's no record of it making me have to start all over again? It better not be the latter becasue my message was fairly lengthy (complimentary, though, so don't worry) and painstakingly thought out but I can't remember all that I said.
I agree. Too fast. I prefer it closer to 100 or 108. Ending is way to fast. I think the piece looses it character completely at that tempo.

This is a fine band. I think there is too much reverb in the hall though...makes it hard to get a good recording.

A slower tempo would make the lower chords stand out and that sounds alot better in my opinion.

I prefer it at a slower tempo myself.

@ehelwagen .... I agree this is just a smidge too brisk for this piece.

Anyone know who's conducting this? Is it Dr. Peter Boonshaft?

@yos313 yes it is

@chiefmc22 After all this is still a march! Dr. Boonshaft brings out these young performers' natural exuberance, and they produce a stirring result!

This is much too fast. Listen to the performance by the Detroit School of Arts Wind Symphony and see if you don't prefer it.

The tempo for this song was hit perfectly sir. I had to take a metronome to it and its very, very close.

actually your rite...but iono why, but when i first heard this, it just sounded as if it was ridiculously rushed...
redbullrobert 1 year ago
gjob, albeit it was extremely rushed....imho, british marches should be a notch slower, and perhaps, be more majestic sounding...
