Cognitive behavior therapy counseling and Smartrecovery worked for me where the AA program didn't because I don't believe in faith healing. Charles Bufe begins AA: Cult or Cure with a description of a standard AA meeting - dominated by a few people who tell their same, self-serving stories for the umpteenth time, the proceedings unfocused and unhelpful, the environment filled with smoke and other unhealthy environmental contaminants - from which most people leave with basic psychological and social needs unmet...
Hammersley, as you probably know, Bufe is self-published, calling himself Sharp Press. The company motto? "The very best in Rabble Rousing". He prides himself in being an Ankle-Biter, is fully aware of the dishonesty of his agenda and takes great pleasure in it.
Interestingly enough, Bufe goes to a meeting and makes assumptions based on things that are outside his range of knowledge. Then he defines AA according to that model. The thing about AA is that no one has to come. No one has to belong. If people choose to use AA as a way to help themselves get sober, far out. If they find another way, far out. Get over it, Bufe.
Bufe is a joke. In his book where he tries to make a cult case against AA, he invents a fictional entity.
He invents "institutional AA".
There is no such thing as "institutional AA" but he creates it as a device to make AA into something it is not, and non-critical readers seem to be deceived.
AA is really a free-wheeling assembly of extremely individualistic people with a common problem. Cult? Get serious!
there is a simple truth here, if my drinking was successful then i would not need any help but it was said that where did your way get you? it got me very poorly and dying so any way other than mine has to be a success thats the way i see it
Alcoholics have one symptom in common; they cannot start drinking without developing the phenomenon of craving ) ( the only relief we have to suggest is entire abstinence
Practical experience shows that nothing will so much insure immunity from drinking as intensive work with other alcoholics. It works when other activities fail. This is our twelfth suggestion: Carry this message to other alcoholics! You can help when no one else can. You can secure their confidence when other fail. Remember they are very ill.
The success rate of 12 months of AA: 5%. The success rate of quitting without AA: 5%. You people are so full of horse-shit. It's not a disease- it's NOT genetic, you've never substantiated that false claim. It's a choice, a bad habit, and can be compounded by physical addiction after a while, but all of it ultimately is a matter of choice and will. The disease model takes the human will out of the equation completely, and that's crap. Bill Wilson was a douche, btw.
Lobstergirl, did you know that Buttcoffee has an anti-AA video with over 78,000 views? BTW, you are partly correct. 95% of first time visitors to AA leave in the first year. However, that does NOT mean that AA is only 5% successful, because most of those same people COME BACK to AA (over and over in some cases) and when they have had enough, they stop drinking.
"God, I offer myself to Thee -- to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always!"
lobstergirl, one question, was there a bag in douche or just the douche....
btw, you can never anger or get under the skin of us oldtimers, we just love life too much and seen so many people like you, hopefully you'll join us. if you need help finding a mtg please post me and i can find one for you.
I quit drinking several months ago, on my own initiative, and plan to go for 1 year, or so. But I'm not gonna swear to never drink again for the rest of my life- I will have a drink occasionally after this. I just quit out of a desire to start exercising and get my metabolism up. Alcoholism is not a terminal, or congenital defect- it's a metabolic, chemical disorder that can be reversed and healed.
LOBSTER GURL, I HAD PLANNED ON ONLY ONE MEETING, NOW, now my pathetic little quasi life is over. only prayer meditation meetings and labor. all a waste such a shame.
when i was rocking jacking dope in my arm it was so fun now it's all undone. PLEASE DO NOT STAY OR YOU'LL SWAY AND MIND NUMB WITH THIS 12 STEP STUFF.
Lobstergirl. Alcoholism is a terminal illness. Once contracted, it continues until death. It may not kill you (that is a fatal illness), but is is terminal. If you are an alcoholic today, you will always be an alcoholic. Sorry for the REALITY, but that's just the way it is.
you obviously are in denial and dont know anything about aa. keep your fucking comments to yourself. theres so many ppl on here disagreeing with you. if you read the big book and understood, you would also understand that it IS disease. and human will is the thing that makes this program. everyone is there on will, dumb ass.
Isegoria, are you going to be my valentine? I don't care if you're on the pink team cause I'm not talking about sex or anything like that. I'm on the blue team but I still think we would be great together. We could take walks - maybe watch sunsets. BTW do you realize that the word disease is not in the Big Book? AA doesn't say it's a disease. Only the AMA and the World Health Organization say that.
Golly sweetie, I hope you don't report yourself for bad language. When we get together I can teach you how to express yourself without saying f*uck all the time. It's a maturity thing and I really think you will be able to learn in time. If you can find "disease" in the first 164 pages sweetie, tell me about it because AA doesn't call alcoholism a disease - just the AMA and WHO, but what the hell do they know? I'm waiting anxiously - give me a page number.
Congratulations Isegoria! You made an entire comment without using the "F" word. Are you one of those Big Book experts? Maybe you need to refer to Terrance Hodgkins for an answer? That's OK, I can wait. Keep in touch sweetie.
No one will show this as it is just simply not there instead the will pull out big fat red herrings like the mental midget tumescent345 (which is the same person over several user names)who failed to even bother to bring tartar sauce for his stupidity.
Some people are so stupid I am not sure how they continue to breathe.
isegoria, are you OK? I wouldn't want anything to happen to you. Please, tell me you'll be my Valentine. I've been telling all my friends that you and I are an "item" so I don't want to look foolish, but in time I know you'll realize we were meant for eachother.
I don't think you're a child Isegoria. You appear to be a mature man (not emotionally or intellectually - only chronologicly. That's why I find you so appealing, because you look like a man, but act like a child and you have that rustic Cuban look with that big moustach. Ouantos anos tiene usted? I'd really like to know because I think of you a lot.
That' it! I LOVE it when you get so churlish - it suits your appearance perfectly. Look, I admit I'm not gay, but that shouldn't stand between us. Sex is only one component of a relationship and you can have your sex with any guy you want. I just want you to be my valentine - that's all, no strings attached.
OK isegoria, I don't want you to get angry and I really don't go for that rope bondage stuff anyway, although I realize that some of you guys do it a lot. One time when I was new in AA a middle aged woman told me she wanted to be my sponsor and invited me to her house for coffee after a meeting. She had some rope, and I let her talk me into tying me up. It was an amazing experience but I wouldn't want to do it with a guy - not even you.
@isegoria1 i've been going to meetings for about 3 months. The BIG BOOK is full of big crap. It's full of opinions, lies and missinformation. This mostly stupid piece of literature was written in the 1930's for christ sake.Almost nothing was known about alcoholism back then. How can AA expect any results when it mandates giving yourself to a higher power and having a spiritual experience as the ONLY way to quit.No wonder their success rate is near zero.Worst treatment program without question forsure
If you find a better one that actually works isegoria, I will be very happy for you.Millions of people in AA are living happy lives. You can't deny it doesn't work for other people, just didn't work for you. As for the success rate, People who truly give themselves to the program will recover. It's the people that are totally against it that don't. I'm sure for every person sitting in that chair, there were 20 that came in and said the exact same thing u said and left. So thats where the rate
@fearedlegend The fellowship began by two people sharing their experience strength and hope with each other. Today this is repeated all over the world for people who really want to live a life free from alcohol. It's there only if you want it. I hope you find what you need.
Our book is meant to be suggestive only. We realize we know only a little. God will constantly disclose more to you and to us. Ask Him in your morning meditation what you can do each day for the man who is still sick.
But the ex-problem drinker who has found this solution, who is properly armed with facts about himself, can generally win the entire confidence of another alcoholic in a few hours. Until such an understanding is reached, little or nothing can be accomplished.
They don't want to.They are afraid of messing up their social group.Sometimes you got to get rid of the drunked parasites who you thought were your friends. You'll save a gob of money on bar bills. And gain thousands of AA friends that don't want your money. And it keeps getting better.Imagine that after 17 years and growing like a money tree. BUT they have to learn for themselvas and nobody can help them till THEY say HELP. They are all over. Everywhere! Enjoy life It is so short.
Thanks for your agreement; I appreciate it! Just to clarify, the 420 at the end of smrtblnd is for April 20. I was just an alcoholic, not a drug person...I just never got the chance; I'm sure I could have been taken there too! But my pothead friends (whom I do adore, despite it all!)have set me straight about 420! I guess it's unusual to be commenting about "recovery" with THAT at the end of your moniker! So, APRIL 20th is what I mean! :)
If you really had ANY knowlege at all in AA, you'd no NO ONE calls the shots. AA is a group consensus. There are no presidants! You are ignorant and dangerous in your commentns. You'll scare people away who's lives need to be saved. Zip it. You no nothing.
This video was commented due to the fact that it is a disgrace to all of Youtube. There fore, we will not rest until this madness is stopped/deleted along with all other pointless, mindless videos.
AA is anonymous. there are no audits. noone fills out forms. its just a fellowship. at any given meeting there will be people sober for a few days through a few decades.
Alcoholics Anonymous, like ALL 12-step programmes is BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!
AA refuses to publish their results, citing 'privacy issues.' Other treatments programmes manage to publish their results annually, and they don't seem to breach anyone's privacy. Nevertheless, current information from AA audits indicate a success rate of a whopping 5%!!! Wow! 5% of AA members manage to kick the booze habit. How about the chances of doing it on your own, without any help whatsoever? You guessed it: 5%! AA=BS
so 95% of AA members are drunk?LOL. these figures are based on ALL people who wander in a meeting? never wanting to get sober. Many come back and do the program and get sober when the pain gets bad enough. keep believing that orange paper bullshit. I see you watched Penn and teller vids too-they are magicians they decieve people for a living, just like your orange paper buds- I suppose you believe their other tricks are real also?
Ok, people like you, that put up stats about the way people can fail to recover does'nt help, there are alot of people that actually do care, and and someone else has to say somthing about audits? Give me a break! This is a disease that some people can not take care of and they need support, because if there is no support they will die! Just because you read things does not justify the fact that they will be cured.
It is all individuals no leaders no bosses no rank just people that go to meetings and get streight or die. Thats all. OK so I'm one. 17 years clean and sober.
Average rate of people who kick the habbit on their own, 5%. Parcent of people who take it on themselves to quit, 5%. Quit on your own and the you wont have to have to sit through the religiouse bullshit.
The first step actually prevents you from getting sober . Why would you admit you are powerless over your own choices ? If you believe you are powerless , you have already lost the battle !
Can anyone help? I've been drunk since age 12, thirteen xment centers, seven halfway houses, and twenty five years bouncing in and out of AA meetings! I still live with my co- dependent care taking mother! I'm fourty four yeas old and think of suicide daily. You dumbfux that don't understand from personal experience need not reply! I need help, any body?
I don't have a drinking problem. I have a living problem... but 6 billion sob on this planet have living problems too. Getting wacked out of mind made more problems Life dosen't change just becuase you get sober Living problems don't go away just becuase you get sober I won't give you faults hope. Run like hell if there's bad person in your life, especailly if you love them. I lost someone i love every much to this thing call alcoholism. She's just a selfish Bitch.
my sister is with a guy that has pancreatitis, within the last 6 months been in rehab three times get out of rehab and with in three days starts drinking why does he do this. He don't have a job and when my sister see em drunk he will be homeless. can any body tell me why he does it? please let me know.
He Clearly has a problem. If your sister or you wish to resolve the issue seek appropriate help. Remember you are not the only one facing this. Stop the cycle now. There is something behind this issue. Either remove yourself from the situation or take the actions from guided mentors. Empower yourself! This is not a healthy behavior.
Doesnt this completely go against one of the traditions?
It seems this is a British commercial. I would hope they follow the traditions as well, but WTF? "Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion...... at the level of press, radio, and FILM." Kinda upset about this "commercial".
When I recruited my first 5 steppers I got a cool pair of nike hi-tops. everyone was wearing them. they talk about comet landing on ohio river and all of us riding it back to promise land. too cool
a sponsor is someone who wears a 'wire' and records everything you say and put into a folder
.....aa routinely blackmails all it's members and forces the women to have sex with all the descendents of bill and bob and the lesbian wives lois and anne, this is all factual
That's right, but it's not just the descendents who get all the good sex. Old Timers too. If you do a good job selling flowers at the airport, and stay sober you get a special tattoo and become a "made" member. Then you can fuck anyone you want - anytime.
That's right. AA has a big skyscraper in New York made out of solid gold. Cult Zombies are paid millions to work there and count the truckloads of money that rolls in - all extorted from alcoholics!
aa taxes its' members outrageous sums and then records all private conversations and has them out into publications and sent out to family members. they tell the irs everything you have disclosed
For all you people that do not believe in AA, it is your right. AA does not control people's lives, it is a program of recovery from alcoholism, but more importantly, life. We AA members realize that it isn't the drinking as much as it is in handling our lives. The 12-steps are merely excercises that put people in touch with the spiritual principals behind the steps, and that is what we as alcoholics are devoid of. Not until we inact those principals in our every day life do we recover.
aa is in fact a criminal family composed of forgers and narcs that imprison everyone they come into contact with. if you go to an aa meeting all your information is sent to wso
i have a month clean.i will get fucked up again someday.but i am telling the truth .and i will be feeling good.if you should feel good wether or not you drink instead of not being happy either way
I went to AA once, turned up pissed as you do like innit and when it was my turn to speak, I stood up and said "My name is James I am an alcoholic.....oh bollocks to this, anyone fancy a pint?" and so I emptied the meeting and we had one hell of a laugh in the pub. So AA might not had saved me, but it did help me to make new freinds even though they are a bunch of piss heads.
Is this program about Germans? Germans are all drunks anyway. They all like to drink lots of beer in those big cups. I would like to go to Germany and get drunk with them. I don't like the cops though. They are tough and have those dogs. I don't like those dogs.
No-after watching "is AA a cult part 2" sordid truth is the greatest. its hilarious. has AA draculas and everything. a must see. exposes AA terrorists -shooting all who dispute the cult. cant stop laughing
January 6, 2008. HumanEspressoMachine, the all-time best video maker on YouTube is GONE! Suddenly and mysteriously. We know that members of the anti-AA cult have been stalking him - and now he's gone! They have been extremely jealous of his talents, but this time they may have gone too far!
AA is for LOSERS. I am bringing back The American Temperance Society founded by Lyman Beecher in 1826. FUCK the Big Book. The only way to achieve sobriety is by reading the "Six Sermons on Intemperance"
Too bad - the leader of the Anti-AA movement took the video down. He had another video about AA showing turds in a toilet bowl. Took that one down too.
Check out this video: "the leader of the anti-aa movement". This guy claims to be a lawyer, and is the self-appointed anti-AA guru. In the video, I'm wondering - what the hell does he have behind the curtain?
Expect a miracle, right? That's great, but many "recovering alcoholics" could certainly benefit from psychiatric counseling.
AA works if you want it to work but it's not the ONLY thing that works. When a person wakes up hungover and suddenly realizes their drinking has destroyed their life and the lives of their loved ones, AA can be a ray of hope. Even if they never have a drink again, they are gonna have mental health issues that should be attended to by professionals.
Miracles are for the superstisious, which I am not. What happens in a genuine recovery is very dramatic changes in all aspects of living and being, often interpreted as miraculous "interventions" by higher "authority", an intellectual attempt to comprehend what cannot be explained in words, nor ideas. The heart has an unspoken language of its own.
The programme is an intellectual property business called AA World Services , Inc., making money for Bill W.'s heirs, 6 figure execs.and lawyers protecting the cash cow. It is as heartless as the apostles of Bill W.'s 12 step programme. The Fellowship of AA, represented by the General Service Conference, its office, & its board, has only 1 requirement, & 1 purpose. No programme reqired !! Name calling is not loving.
A.A. works for some people. Some people have completely wrecked their lives with booze and they really are powerless. If A.A. keeps them from wrecking whatever is left of their lives and relationships, then it is a good thing. A.A. didn't work for me. A.A. doesn't cure people, it teaches them to live with the wreckage. Living with the wreckage wasn't enough for me. I can't control everything, but I am certainly not powerless.
The fellowship of AA "teaches" no such things.Bill W.'s payed for program, and his heartless apostles are the "teachers". You, and what you can share about your experiences in staying sober are welcome NOW to help others who would otherwise be run off by the "program" crowd. Please come back and share.
Yes it is. Quit drinking, controlling;judging;comparing;competing;imitating;worrying;fearing;raging;suffering;hating;panicing;criticising;hurting;destroying;escaping;arguing. What's left ? Find out when all that stops!!!
If a person's drinking is causing them to do all those things, they might want to seek professional mental counseling as well as support from other alcoholics.
There are almost always what psychiatry calls "co-morbid conditions". But no psychiatrist really caring or knowledgeable about the dis-ease of "alcoholism" would attempt accurate diagnosis, much less meaningful treatment for an active alcoholic. Too many symptoms resulting from drinking alone mimic mental/emotional illness for 6-12 months after stopping. Only then is it clear what symptoms remain pointing to underlying conditions.
rwattonville - I loved the phrase you used - "Sober alcoholics who were attracted to the mess I presented." Yes! It's the love we have for eachother. The true spirit of Alcoholics Anonymous.
They co-exist in your mind NOW, as they did in mine for years until I woke up. All the program did for me was help my "ego" avoid dealing with whatever I am being NOW, by trying to become a "better" person in the future. Struggling to achieve the ideals. Confusion and conflict dogged my every "step" No more. Without the "program",like without alcohol, the misery is gone.
(1)rwattonville - You seem very concerned with Bill Wilson being compensated for his efforts on behalf of AA. My take: He and Lois lived like paupers for years helping alcoholics. Bill wrote and wrote - gave of himself unceasingly and finally, when AA had matured and was on it's feet, BW gave up all claims (financial and otherwise)
(2) In return, he asked for a stipend for himself and for Lois (if he died), and a stipend for his loyal friends Helen and Ebby. The Wilsons lived a modest life. Their financial reward was far far less than they deserved. Remember too that Lois founded Alanon, a very important support group for families. We could never repay them fully for what they did for us.
Perhaps you should further investigate your "take". The money is still being payed to his heirs. Writing the books, etc. was Bill's own ego feeding proposition, not selfless service. AA would certainly not pay you or me for our opinions. I don't see that his opinions in the books have "helped" anybody. On the contrary, they are destroying AA Fellowship.
Bill had no children with Lois. Keep checking available facts. Don't take my word for anything. If I were judging Bill, I would be being harsh. I am not. Had I been faced with his circumstances and situation, I might well have yielded to his temptations. In fact, in similar situations, I have. Though AA never offered me payment for my opinions & beliefs, so that was not 1 of mine.
Are you suggesting there is some "secret" payment being made to some illegitimate heir? Be specific.I think you're dreaming. You say you are not judging BW, but you criticize the small compensation he received for over 30 years of selfless service. BW was NOT a saint, but I feel every AA member owes him a debt of gratitude.
Check the facts/truth, you don't believe anything I say, nor should you. What's at stake is too important. The "service" as I pointed out was not selfless, and power is not always about money. Stalin used to let his paychecks pile up on his desk in the small apt. he had in the Kremlin. Was he selfless too?
That's your opinion, virtually unprovable by anything other than your opinion. What might have been matters not at all. It's the facts/truths about what is going on NOW, and where that comes from that matters. Ideas/books have no heart, and never saved anybody
If you believe in faith healing, maybe AA's program is for you. Cognitive behavior therapy counseling and Smartrecovery worked for me where the AA program didn't because I don't believe in faith healing. Lobstergirl. Alcoholism is a terminal illness. Once contracted, it continues until death. It may not kill you (that is a fatal illness), but is is terminal. If you are an alcoholic today, you will always be an alcoholic. Sorry for the REALITY, but that's just the way it is.

I'm waiting anxiously - give me a page number.

fearedlegend 1 year ago
If you find a better one that actually works isegoria, I will be very happy for you.Millions of people in AA are living happy lives. You can't deny it doesn't work for other people, just didn't work for you. As for the success rate, People who truly give themselves to the program will recover. It's the people that are totally against it that don't. I'm sure for every person sitting in that chair, there were 20 that came in and said the exact same thing u said and left. So thats where the rate
alex39k 11 months ago
@fearedlegend The fellowship began by two people sharing their experience strength and hope with each other. Today this is repeated all over the world for people who really want to live a life free from alcohol. It's there only if you want it. I hope you find what you need.

AA=BS
wombatstew1 3 years ago
so 95% of AA members are drunk?LOL. these figures are based on ALL people who wander in a meeting? never wanting to get sober. Many come back and do the program and get sober when the pain gets bad enough. keep believing that orange paper bullshit. Just because you read things does not justify the fact that they will be cured.

amproudusa 4 years ago
For all you people that do not believe in AA, it is your right. AA does not control people's lives, it is a program of recovery from alcoholism, but more importantly, life. We AA members realize that it isn't the drinking as much as it is in handling our lives. The 12-steps are merely excercises that put people in touch with the spiritual principals behind the steps, and that is what we as alcoholics are devoid of. Not until we inact those principals in our every day life do we recover.

quickcap 4 years ago
Expect a miracle, right? That's great, but many "recovering alcoholics" could certainly benefit from psychiatric counseling.
AA works if you want it to work but it's not the ONLY thing that works. When a person wakes up hungover and suddenly realizes their drinking has destroyed their life and the lives of their loved ones, AA can be a ray of hope. Even if they never have a drink again, they are gonna have mental health issues that should be attended to by professionals.
soulcheck4u 4 years ago
Miracles are for the superstisious, which I am not. What happens in a genuine recovery is very dramatic changes in all aspects of living and being, often interpreted as miraculous "interventions" by higher "authority", an intellectual attempt to comprehend what cannot be explained in words, nor ideas. The heart has an unspoken language of its own.
rwattonville 4 years ago
The programme is an intellectual property business called AA World Services , Inc., making money for Bill W.'s heirs, 6 figure execs.and lawyers protecting the cash cow. It is as heartless as the apostles of Bill W.'s 12 step programme. The Fellowship of AA, represented by the General Service Conference, its office, & its board, has only 1 requirement, & 1 purpose. No programme reqired !! Name calling is not loving.
rwattonville 4 years ago
A.A. works for some people. I can't control everything, but I am certainly not powerless.
soulcheck4u 4 years ago
The fellowship of AA "teaches" no such things.Bill W.'s payed for program, and his heartless apostles are the "teachers". You, and what you can share about your experiences in staying sober are welcome NOW to help others who would otherwise be run off by the "program" crowd. Please come back and share.

Yes it is. Quit drinking, controlling;judging;comparing;competing;imitating;worrying;fearing;raging;suffering;hating;panicing;criticising;hurting;destroying;escaping;arguing. What's left ? Find out when all that stops!!!
rwattonville 4 years ago
If a person's drinking is causing them to do all those things, they might want to seek professional mental counseling as well as support from other alcoholics.
soulcheck4u 4 years ago
There are almost always what psychiatry calls "co-morbid conditions". But no psychiatrist really caring or knowledgeable about the dis-ease of "alcoholism" would attempt accurate diagnosis, much less meaningful treatment for an active alcoholic. Too many symptoms resulting from drinking alone mimic mental/emotional illness for 6-12 months after stopping. Only then is it clear what symptoms remain pointing to underlying conditions.
rwattonville 4 years ago
rwattonville - I loved the phrase you used - "Sober alcoholics who were attracted to the mess I presented." Yes! It's the love we have for eachother. The true spirit of Alcoholics Anonymous.
quickcap 4 years ago
cant the fellowship and the program coexist? it seems to work very well for me??
cincy67 4 years ago
They co-exist in your mind NOW, as they did in mine for years until I woke up. All the program did for me was help my "ego" avoid dealing with whatever I am being NOW, by trying to become a "better" person in the future. Struggling to achieve the ideals. Confusion and conflict dogged my every "step" No more. Without the "program",like without alcohol, the misery is gone.
rwattonville 4 years ago
(1)rwattonville - You seem very concerned with Bill Wilson being compensated for his efforts on behalf of AA. My take: He and Lois lived like paupers for years helping alcoholics. Bill wrote and wrote - gave of himself unceasingly and finally, when AA had matured and was on it's feet, BW gave up all claims (financial and otherwise)
quickcap 4 years ago
(2) In return, he asked for a stipend for himself and for Lois (if he died), and a stipend for his loyal friends Helen and Ebby. The Wilsons lived a modest life. Their financial reward was far far less than they deserved. Remember too that Lois founded Alanon, a very important support group for families. We could never repay them fully for what they did for us.
quickcap 4 years ago
Perhaps you should further investigate your "take". The money is still being payed to his heirs. Writing the books, etc. was Bill's own ego feeding proposition, not selfless service. AA would certainly not pay you or me for our opinions. I don't see that his opinions in the books have "helped" anybody. On the contrary, they are destroying AA Fellowship.
rwattonville 4 years ago
The Wilsons had no children, and I always thought that BW's royalty payments were to end upon Lois's death. Am I wrong?
I think you're being too harsh on the man who started it all. Consider this. He authored the AA traditions. Without BW, there would be NO fellowship
quickcap 4 years ago
Bill had no children with Lois. Keep checking available facts. Don't take my word for anything. If I were judging Bill, I would be being harsh. I am not. Had I been faced with his circumstances and situation, I might well have yielded to his temptations. In fact, in similar situations, I have. Though AA never offered me payment for my opinions & beliefs, so that was not 1 of mine.
rwattonville 4 years ago
Are you suggesting there is some "secret" payment being made to some illegitimate heir? Be specific.I think you're dreaming. You say you are not judging BW, but you criticize the small compensation he received for over 30 years of selfless service. BW was NOT a saint, but I feel every AA member owes him a debt of gratitude.
quickcap 4 years ago
Check the facts/truth, you don't believe anything I say, nor should you. What's at stake is too important. The "service" as I pointed out was not selfless, and power is not always about money. Stalin used to let his paychecks pile up on his desk in the small apt. he had in the Kremlin. Was he selfless too?
rwattonville 4 years ago
I do share your love of the fellowship, but consider this: Without the book, and without our traditions, the fellowship never would have endured.
quickcap 4 years ago
That's your opinion, virtually unprovable by anything other than your opinion. What might have been matters not at all. It's the facts/truths about what is going on NOW, and where that comes from that matters. Ideas/books have no heart, and never saved anybody
rwattonville 4 years ago
AA has saved my life and it will not work for you unless you work your own program and keep comin back!
