I agree with all you are saying...got a candy red w/maple fretbrd fo 80.00 at a local pawn shop, swear its brand new, still had the plastic on the guard , all original. The first thing is to put some D'Addario strings on it the EXP version, those are magic strings on any guitar! Get the 10/46 size, trust me! Set-up intonation and be amazed! these sound better than expensive Fenders!...poppa
@MrPoppa2 Glad you are digging the axe, poppa..EXP = great tip, thanks. I only play with .10s. .09's are like rubber bands...tone seems better to me with .10s as well.
I have a Squire Stratocaster Standard 1998 and it's the best guitar I have, I'm selling an Eric Clapton autograph BLACKIE to upgrade my squire (and have a bit of spare cash) the Squire is fantastic, better than all the guitars I own and I have seven and they are all Gibsons and Fenders, this guitar just has the edge.
I'm a huge Jimi fan so I'm upgrading the pickups to customshop 69's.
Badge snobs beware this guitar will eat them all for dinner.
Nice review Johnny! Just got one for me (candy apple red). It has a great tone and smooth arm. The bridge is actually nice... holds the tune when using the tremolo arm more than other lower budget guitars. I'm planning to giver a better set of pickups... any suggestions??? Cheers!
thanks frederici! i replaced the stock pick-ups with gfs pickups (don't know the model as I bought them used from a pal who installed them for me). I also like fender lace sensor pick-ups for strats. my 77 strat has them and they sound great. good luck! Jonny O
@brianmadrigal111 , a guitar repair place can do it for you. shouldn't cost much. I was lucky a friend gave me the pickups and offered to put them in as a birthday present. If you're handy, you might even be able to do it yourself or learn how form the web. But I try to find people who know how to do it well vs. taking a chance I end up hurting the guitar.
its called a squier standard strarocaster(maple)(special edition) thats why it has the 3-ply mint green pickguard and the cherry sunburst finish, it also has the 22 jumbo frets, that is also why it has the golden squier label on the head stock instead of the flat black labeling, I have a 2007 Fender standard stratocaster in three color burst, also have an epiphone les paul standard plus top in transluscent amber, thinking about getting the same one.
Thank you for the detailed info--I was not aware of that. It is now June 2009 and the guitar still plays great. Appreciate your insight and expertise! It is a rosewood neck, though, not maple--I have a maple neck on my 77 strat.
i think i can beat it ibanez g10 for bout 120 euro. i like it more cz floyd rose and humbuckers . but it all opinion my friend has that guitar the squire and i think it great to
It helped a lot know i bout it. know 3 times a week i play with my cousin and my cousins friend. My cousin plays bass and his friend plays lead guitar and i play riven guitar. And My cousins friend played my guitar and he bout one to.
I wondered what happened to your previous video as I posted a reply on it. I love these guitars, still have the one I bought to learn on, my very first guitar, a squire standard strat in tobacco sunburst. I've gigged it with my band on many occasions, I'll never ever sell it, willingly part with it as I feel we have both been on a journey of discovery together ! Makes you feel a little sorry for the badge snobs - they don't know what they are missing ! Thanks for another great post.
Found your video of interest because I just bought a pristine 2001 Squier Standard Strat for $110. I bought it because it was in a new molded Fender HSC which I needed for my 2006 Fender American Special Mahogany HSS Stratocaster 60th Anniversary model. I figured to put the Squier in my well used TKL case and re-sell it for the same price I paid and have a nice new case. Well, I kept the Squier. It is a wonderful guitar. You are right on. What a bargain. Thanks for posting..

Are you sure? This is a rosewood fretboard, not maple.
