I base my division off of multiplication to the nearest ten. That is to say, I can see right away away that 26 x 20 = 26 x 10 x 2, or 260 x 2 which is 520. That's 28 too many, which means you take away a full two (to get 18) with the remainder of 24. But, I was home schooled, so that is probably wrong (even though it only takes me about 4 seconds to compute).
I've always hated maths. I just do not understand chunking. I think it's the most difficult way of dividing there is. Repeated subtraction? It's supposed to mimic our thought processes. My thought processes were never this complicated.
Ok, so some of you haters should focus on your English instead of math-obviously by your comments you get long division without the tricks but your English is horrific. Plus, for some people its easier to break these up into chunks so its easier to work with.
Wow, this method is harder, longer, and more work than standard long division! What moron thought up this idiot method???? I mean, with standard long division the person would be finished at that answer of 5. I never heard of this until 5 minutes ago, when it was mentioned on the show The Middle and I wondered what the hell it was.
And yeah, SPEAK, describe what you're doing, how you're coming up with that 5, 2, 1... If it's just "Well, that many fits", that's the same as normal.
yes finally i understand its because i didnt know the method for it but now i know it that seems soo easy that vid was the final puzzle for me thannks!!!
this methord is sooooooooo easy i do not get how people dont get it? i mean and im in the person who mades this class!!!!!

In the UK, half the school kids can only speak Somali or (insert obscure language here) and so this is what math has been reduced to.

i did it the same way you did it but with 2 steps i think. Instead of doing 26x5 I did 26x8 which is 208 so minus that by 232 it's 24!

this would really benefit from a verbal or written explanation to go with it
