Andre Galvao was Marcelos rival in the Gi and faced him in several finals several years ago. Gave Marcelo a hard time but dont know if he ever beat him.
@FULLTILT786 He was most definitely looking at the time. I have been to MG school before and he has a timer on the wall so that was probably where JT was looking.
@918Anon Pablo never subbed Marcelo. Marcelo subbed him a few years back. I'm not arguing about Roger or Jacare as they have their own legacy's. Yes, I know about Rafael Mendes but he also went into several overtimes in ADCC a few years back against Cobrinha if memory serves correct. That said most people consider Cobrinha ahead of menses because of how many years he has been dominant. (10 freaking years bro) I'm not saying mendes isn't a good grappler but he ain't beating Marcelo IMO. I'm tal
@918Anon Pablo never subbed Marcelo. Marcelo has subbed him with a wrist lock. Marcelo is beatable yes, but so is Jacare. Jacare lost this year at ADCC. Marcelo's style is what makes him p4p above the rest. Cobrinha has been called the greatest of the decade for his weight class so idk what to tell about your comment there. The only other person you could argue for his weight class is Leozinho, but he also lost to Marcelo this year at ADCC.
@JLSealy2 Pablo beat Marcelo the last time they fought. Rafael Mendes has beaten Cobrinha in every match since the 09 worlds, you can't argue bjj p4p w/o knowing who the Mendes Bros are. Roger used to sub everybody when he competed, Pablo won the NO-GI worlds, 2009 ADCC, 3rd at weight and 2nd absolute at ADCC '11, Andre Galvao won his weight and the absolute at ADCC '11, Braulio Estima won his weight and absolute ADCC '09, subbed Marcelo in the Absolute, and won the superfight in '11 vs Jacare.
@kanguesso yes those men have beaten him but they also have loses from others as well. Not to mention two of those you mentioned below have a weight advantage. It's hard to argue that Marcelo isn't p4p right now. Cobrinha is up there too. Terre doesn't have much of a no gi game compared to the other guys. Great gi game though.
@JLSealy2 Jacare subbed Marcelo off his back at ADCC 2005. Cobrinha isn't even the best at his own weight class, Rafa Mendes is. Terere won most of the no-gi events he entered, he just didn't do that many. Pablo beat Marcelo at ADCC 2009. Marcelo is great, though beatable.
@918Anon Besides Terere, Marcelo really has never had a rival at his own weight. I guess you could say Pablo, because he did get a win once off that pass, but Marcelo submitted him in 2/3 of their matches. You could also make an argument for Kron, but once again, Marcelo is 2-0 against Kron with a mounted Guillotine as one of the wins. Not excusing his other loses, but they're usually to people bigger than him in Absolutes.
@918Anon Also interestlingly, most of the subs that have beaten Marcelo are techniques he doesn't use, like the kimura (jacare), darce (drysdale), and arm triangle (braulio), for example.
no income no job or assets - (NINJA) or simply Nina Loan is a term used in the United States mortgage industry to describe one of many documentation types which lenders may allow when underwriting a mortgage. Btw Marcelo's legs are HUGE !!
@Ah4b I don't think that's necessarily a shitty contract. I think that is the way business is done now in MMA. Demian Maia is under contract with the UFC and i don't think he could fight in a world BJJ championship competition because now he's a UFC product and everywhere he goes he is recognized as such. So, if you're the UFC, it's only smart to protect your investment. I mean i don't think the Miami Heat Basketball team would let Dwayne Wade play in a European league game other than olympics.
@kanguesso You explained very successfully that a shitty contract is an awesome contract for the one who created it. When both parties dont like the contract they can still split up.
There is a common misunderstanding in the US that whenever a company makes a beneficial decision for itself then it is a good decision. Guess why millions of houses in the US are abandoned? The owners made shitty contracts...
The UFC has no genuine interest in pushing sports but only to make money out of it.
@Ah4b I agree with you 100%. Americans, including my self, tend to have a very business like mentality. We assume that what is good for business is good for all and that is not necessarily true all the time. The UFC is a business organization after all, they are in the Business of selling fights and every decision they make is based on the bottom line of the company. I guess if you look at it from the company's perspective, it is a good contract but not if you do otherwise.
@Ah4b dude did You just get from UFC to USA housing problem? :o and soon you will start talking about NINJA(no income no job or assets) project? Nice! :) still you got a point about americans
@PowerMug1910 One does see a bit of pro-business extremism all over the place. Its one thing that it exists but the astonishing thing is that people justify it even if they suffer from it. kanguesso surely wants to see Marcelo fight a lot but if theres this awesome contract which doesnt allow him its ok because its business. Thats amazing.
Marcelo fights very relaxed but when torres threatens to take his back at 6:08 he starts to defend himself ferociously. No one can try that without going through a big scramble.
i HATE when the round timer goes off right after i put in hard work to pass someone's, who is better than me, guard or take the back or just start to fit in the submission... god does that to me on purpose
@JMM4886 its ok. anyone can squeeze a choke or extend an armbar, getting there on anyone whos any good is the problem. so lets say you get the sub. youre satisfied you improved. if you dont get it youre hungry and you keep a sense of urgency. thats how it works for me. the next time i go harder(not to hurt my partner, just roll smarter, more efficiently and more technically sound) besides hard work builds character OSU!
@mtWHITE100 Which guy? They're playing their guard, and if you're talking about JT, he IS going against arguably the best in the world P4P, and holding his own. This comment shows you have no true knowledge of the game and can't see guard work for what it is. And if you're talking about Marcelo, then you're just a fucking moron.
@mtWHITE100 OK, let me explain this to you. This, what you're looking at, is GRAPPLING, NOT MMA, there is NO GROUND AND POUND! Just as I would not expect to see a takedown in a boxing match, I do not expect to see punching in a grappling match. And neither should you This is a sport, while you may see grappling like this in MMA this is a distinct sport without striking.
@mtWHITE100 What the fuck are you even talking about? What is UFC? This? UFC is a brand name, it's not even a fighting style, and these guys are not doing "UFC" they are doing brazilian jiu jitsu, and they are doing sport jiu jitsu, which means no strikes. JT (Who I used to train with in his old school) has NEVER had an MMA (UFC) fight, Marcelo has had one or two and is mainly a grappler as a non-striking BJJ guy. Get your head out of your ass and lean something.
@mtWHITE100 Did you just learnt eh term ground and pound? They don't ground and pound because that's just not what this is about, it's a skill match, it's fun to just grapple. Now BJJ guys do ground and pound, look at any BJJ guy in the UFC or elsewhere and you'll see them GNP when they are in an MMA setting.
@mtWHITE100 Aoki is one person and Maia is another, so please don't give Aoki the lastname Maia. And different people have different games, saying there is no GNP in BJJ because some practitioners don't do it. Or don't do it enough, plus GNP while effective, is not exactly a skillful way to win a ight, these guys can submit from the guard, can do awesome takedowns and take you out from nearly any position, to a knowledgable person that looks better than GNP, GNP is boring.
@mtWHITE100 Dude, you don't even know what YOU'RE saying, you are talking out of your ass, and you have no idea what any of this is. You're some nube moron who wants to watch a guy smash another guy's face until the ref waves. THat's your limit of understanding.
When you see JT walking through guys in his weight class and then you see Marcelo walking through him like that, you almost can't believe that no matter how good you are, there is always someone on a completely different level. And that's what makes the art of Jiu Jitsu so appealing to me. I still favor Ronaldo Jacare's BJJ game over Marcelo's but you really can't go wrong with either one.
JT did better than any of the other rolling clips. He got submitted but not tooled. That back take at the end was awesome! Both are some of my favorites.

@poganla123 I would say Roger Gracie then jacare then garcia. Watch some of the matches between Garcia and Jacare. Jacare has tapped Garcia on numerous occasions. Roger Gracie is #1 Jacare is 1A.
@kanguesso Marcelo is p4p the top grappler,Roger is a monster at 6'4 and Jacare is strong as an ox, Marcelo has better skills than those two but his size and strength is where he falls short. bjj technique beats strength but at their level if the guys has just as good skill set as you but is stronger they usually win, just my opinion
@Kike1316 I actually agree with you that when two bjj fighters are equally skilled, strength and athleticism do come in handy. However, guys like Jacare and Roger in my opinion have more skill than they do strength. You can tell when they roll that they actually just high level technique and rarely rely on strength. But the bottom line i guess is a matter of preference. I prefer Jacare and Roger in terms of P4P talk than i do Marcelo but you can't go wrong with either.
@kanguesso actually Roger Gracie says it himself that he sticks to the basics so i do think marcelo is more technical and knows more stuff but he cant beat Roger same thing with Jacare he is really good but i do think marcelo has more tricks up his sleaves that might not be as effective on everybody
@poganla123 Roger is good but...there is just something about marcelo...the way he dominates opponents...DOMINATES them....but yea Roger is king right now
WHAT AN EPIC ROLL ! Sweet technical sparring, keep the new black belts coming back Marcelo :) 1st it was Ryan Hall, Now JT, whos next ? Glover, Cooper ? ;)
@chadbjj Roger Gracie, Ronaldo Jacare and Fernando Terere would disagree and the last two have both tooled Garcia on numerous occasions. And i love Garcia's BJJ as much as anyone.

@rich85seal true enough Marcelo is greatness and one of my heroes... as well as a decade the spider-mans elder.

@chadbjj Roger Gracie, Ronaldo Jacare and Fernando Terere would disagree and the last two have both tooled Garcia on numerous occasions. And i love Garcia's BJJ as much as anyone.
