@EvaBongoria That's the way it was and still is when I bought the building. Some commercial codes at some time use to be that way to my understanding. I think it's just dumb.

A large temperature swing may not be the old thermostat's fault. If it's mounted on an exterior wall, the stat will sense that temperature... digital or not. All thermostats are designed to sense temperature more slowly than a digital thermometer. This keeps the system from cycling too frequently.

@iamaGod357 Your problem might be duct-related. If the air flow is low, the upstairs may not warm up as quickly as the downstairs. The thermostat only senses temp where it's located. The upstairs may also lose heat faster through older windows and/or exterior walls with northern exposure. It may help to dampen air flow to the downstairs or increase ducting to the upstairs. If you choose to only restrict airflow to the downstairs, there's chance the furnace will overheat.

My downstairs will be 80 and upstairs is like 65. I Live in Minot ND. It gets around -60 in the dead of winter. But i have a problem with heat upstairs, I can never seem to get upstairs warm . my attic is well insulated.
