@SantaValium I think this is the most awesome snake out there. I think this is only snake that can look tough with out killing you lol. There cute too I can't say that about all snakes.
@Gonyosoma7 Thanks! Not all Madagascar hognoses are wild caught, but they are very difficult to breed in captivity. I think Freight Freitas is one of the few people to hatch CB hognoses. You can email oxylansen@gmail.com and see if they have any available.
i have a Madagascar Speckled hognose he is so cool he is on here if you look for feeding Seamus the hognose he is not as fat as yours is but still 6 feet long.
I would not work with them without gloves and hooks! There is allways a risk of getting bitten. Althogh they are not really venomous. Their fangs are really really small though!
These snakes are not venomous. They have large rear teeth and they can cause swelling with bite. If a human bites you it will get red and swell but we humans are not venomous and neither are Leioheterodon madagascariensis. Someone wants to believe this I think but it is NOT true in any meaningful way.
beautifull, I WANT ONE!...lol, na i really do want to get 1 of these, are they easily kept, is the husbandry fairly easy, like that of a western hognose or ball python?...thanks =]
@SOUTHSIDER1985 Yes, they are very easy to keep! Mine is a shy eater though. I have to leave the f/t mouse on a little plate in his cage and he eats it when I'm not watching.
@kujofox I feed him baby chicks but he can't eat anything larger. I tried giving him a small rat one time and he chewed on it but couldn't swallow it for some reason even though it looked to be appropriate size for him.
im form there, and i tell u, i hate critters, and snake for that matter.... i i happen to walk around back in madagascar and come in contact with one of those, i swear to god, i ll have a heart-attack...ihiihihhhiihih
@xenobug wouldnt call that lucky bhut destiny..every one of us has a different story to tell in life, and mine happened to be happening in my country, although ive never seen a hognose in all my life..lol
I he captive bred? enthusasts know that these snakes are very rare to be captive bred. butI know this guy whoi sells them CB!!!!, he sells them fopr 300 neborn ones, worth it for a CB!
@64miguel He's a rescue so I have no idea. I got a female for him and I'm hoping for some eggs but I know how difficult they are to breed so hopefully I'll get lucky!
Someone brought him to the humane society and they didn't know what to do with him (also they found out he was venemous and wanted him gone) so a lady fostered him for a while then I got him :-)
@Huskeyfrog Someone brought him to the Humane Society and when they realized he was venemous they wanted to get rid of him asap. I was lucky to get him.
Hey I heard that these have been classified as venomous. Does anyone have any info on that? I know that they are relatively harmless but they supossedly have small rear fangs that are only harmfull to small animals. Please share any info.
Yes they are rear fanged, venemous snakes. They use their venom when they are chewing on their prey. Madagascar hognoses (and most other types of hognoses) are more likely to give you a threat display or play dead than bite. People bitten by western hogs sometimes have minor swelling but nothing too bad unless you are allergic to the venom. I don't know of anyone who has been bitten by these big guys yet. They are very mellow snakes once they get used to you.
he has such a cute little face.

@xhardcorechicx I agree! Compared to cobras (very cute snakes too, in my opinion!) these won't kill. Hognoses, very unique snakes :)

@KalouAndJay I adopted him for $100, CB snakes sell for around $250 I think.

i was just wondering if you could do a care video on these guys i just got one and all i know is general temps, how much humidity should i have
BrandonSchwartz 1 year ago
@BrandonSchwartz I keep temps around 80 degrees and moderate humidity. I mist his cage about once a week and provide a large bowl for him to soak in.
