@LordWellington15, the red coats are excellent troops, but they are far from being the best in history. If they were truely great, then why is it they didn't conquer any significant European lands? Also, they had suffered many terrible defeats. You do realize that the primary reason why Britain conquered 1/4 of the globe was because they fought and defeated primitive peoples, who had no chance of fighting against modernized European armies. Anybody can do the same.

@expertstrategy First off it was 1/3 of the world. Second you are wrong. The British fought the French, Spanish, Austria etc. in Europe with the Prussians, and won. The British fought the French for Canada and India, and won both times. They fought the Spanish and Portuguese in the West Indies, and a little in South America, and won. They fought the Germans in Boers in Africa and won. They fought some primitive peoples in Africa, but didnt all European nations colonizing Africa do that?

If you ask me, I would say the Mongols had the best army of all time, beceause they created the most continous empire in history, and they defeated virtually everybody and kept that empire for a while.

The british got there ass handed to themselves when they marched through the forest in bright red uniforms with a one shot musket and a bayonet. As the movie showed us they were no match for the natives hand to hand combat skills, they even got merked dilligent by a rag tag American Militia. Haha fuck britian and their shitty ass soldiers

According to the US Census Bereau there are 6,960,762,849 in the world today. So people that play call of duty is not even 2 % of the world population. No disrespect to the British but they are in the middle of a forest, on a beaten path. After the first volley do you really believe they have a chance to go hand to hand against the Natives that have a lifetime of experience in guerilla warfare? If this were on the open field with ranks of soldiers firing at each other maybe but in the forest .. no chance in hell lol.

@TOCR815 So if you kill officers, who direct fire and control movement of the men,mass confusion ensues. Which was displayed beautifully in this scene. Bayonet charge and melee worked in the same manor much like the spartan Phalanx. Trained as a thrusting and charging weapon it wasn't taught that you might be parried because you had your comrades in a wall right by your side. You'll note that magua kills two officers during the chaos, and another falls in sniper fire. They haven't a prayer

cool scene but it rather pisses me off because of the historical inaccuracy. troughout the movie the british are being portrayed as weak morons who seem to enjoy getting cut into pieces while the huron seem to be some super breed ultra humans. Common really, a whole british platoon that is unable to kill A SINGLE HURON? What happened with aiming,bayonets,sabers and close combat skills? I mean 7 soldiers had the chance to shoot magua from 1 meter distance and he still got away..

@obiwanfx mostly because this is a time period when the british army still used their old tactics. (wearing bright red uniforms, using their method of the whole platoon shooting at once) and the hurons were devestating in the thick northeast forest, but i agree with you they make the british soldiers look weak that was a little rediculous with the whole platoon getting merked in 5 minutes. Day-Lewis and the mohicans have naughty hand-to hand skills

@obiwanfx I can understand your being baffled, but I assure you it is very historically accurate most plausible. The british were never taught to aim rather" present" when given the command then fire. Many looked away to avoid the flash from the pan, which was known to cause blindness in line fire. To top it off the british thought it unnecessary and to expensive to use live ammo when training there regulars. So many fired, if not all, there first live rounds in there first taste of battle.

there is truth in what you say but don't you agree that those facts are really exaggerated in this movie? Not only in this scene but in the larger fighting scene at the end of the movie the british regulars aren't even shown to inflict a single casualtie among the hurons. I just want to say that altough there tactics were innapropriate for close terrain ambushes they were still competent soldiers , able to force the hurons to put some efforts in their fighting.

@obiwanfx The Indians you're referring to during the larger ambush scene are not exclusively Hurons. In fact, the Hurons were not even a major player during the French and Indian War. These were mostly Ottawas, Algonquins, Abenakis, and Shawnees that fought for the French or you can call them the Algonquian-speaking Indians as opposed to the Iroquoian Indians on the British side.

@TOCR815 Very true I'm not to sure the Shawnee were this far up for the fighting in New York . But there are other tribes you missed that were apart of these skirmishes Penobscot, Micmac, Wampanoag, The Illinois confederation, Leni Lenape and Mohawk from canada.

@obiwanfx No not at all, the native americans were the seal team 6 of there day. In fact the elite fighting forces we have today procured most, if not all, of there gorilla tactics from these battle hardened warriors. They were light years ahead of there time. In the second ambush you will note that the british were up for 72hrs straight, second the natives make them waste there shots, then it's all out close in melee. Duncan is not an enlisted man his training would have been slightly better.

@obiwanfx If you study up on the French and Indian War or in europe the seven years war. This happened to the British often. The natives allied to both sides in this case the french would always shoot and go for the officers first. The point being that all soldiers in the army in those days, unless special forces units such as rogers rangers, were not trained to fight independently and without constant step by step orders from there officers.
