ANOTHER MOD: Anyone, who wants to silent the shifter, replace the metal ball ( at 2:45 ) with a plastic one. Then apply a lot of grease on it to make it slippery. The shifter will move a lot smoother, but it feels good to me. And its silent. You can find the right plastic balls for example in airsoft guns.
i have a problem with my steering wheel and the game
when i turn my steering wheel a few degrees,the wheel in the game from the pilot
start to blinks or make shorts movements to both sides but short ones.Is very unconfortable to race like that a f1 car cause you need details,and when you move try to move the steering wheel smoothly the wheel in tha game make agressive moves,is tha game or my wheel?
@serchmarc If it's while your driving on F1 2011, go onto your wheel options and find the option steering deadzone. I find that having the deadzone on 2-5% will keep the wheel straight, while not making turning difficult

cause the wheel didnt give me this problem before and now is different so i tested with another game like GRID and is the same problem,is like inside the wheel or the turn dispositive is making a false contact.

Awesome! I followed your instructions and it works beautifully! No more missed gears thx to you. The only side note is that I saw no indication on how the shift lever was oriented when putting it back together. Stupid me reassembled it wrong so that the reverse indicator is up and left hehe. It doesn't affect how it works though. Thank you again mate!
@chilicoke Hi, my shifter is starting to act strange. When i put it in 1st gear, it begins changing from 1 to 2 then 1 then 2 ... And When i put it in 3rd gear, it begins changing from 3 to 5 then 3 and 5 even if i dont even touch it. I don't know if you understand, if so do you think it could act normal again if aply the modification. I've been thinking it might be getting old & loose, it would explain why it mixes the 1 & 2 gear and the 3 & 5. Do you know if it would make any differences? thx.

I just got G27, and honestly, i cant even imagine how bad G25 shifter was considering how bad G27 shifter is. Its waaaaay too light, you can shift it with your little finger with easy. It should have longer throws and require much more force to use.
No offense, you forgot to show the detaching and installation of the spacer nuts for each of the 2 clamps, might be worth it to show where to properly space them again :)
Ok, so, i've just done this mod, and i'm very satisfied! :) I'ts not heavy, but much better feeling, especially the seq-mode!!! It's a bit messy to work with, and make sure you got much space when doing it (becuse I was trapped in my small simulator corner). Thanks for the guide! :)
I just spent 2 hours doing mine. Went to Lowes for the rubber O-ring: Inside Diameter = 1/4 and OD=3/8, none was found! They only had the ID=1/4 &OD=7/32. Close enough?... NOPE i had to do shave excess with my Iris Scissors to trim it down
few things I noticed:
1) Greasy as in grey/black
2) the ball bearing is so hard to put back togehter
3) ALMOST BROKE My potentiometer!!! snapped it backwards but metal still in tact!
4) Pen's tube is too small = 1/8". Wooden chopstick, perfect 3/16" fit!

I have a Problem with my g25 shifter, in allmost every game the second gear would not go in, but i hit the clutch all the way down. I screwed it into pieces and hope to see the problem, but everything seems allright.
In GT 5 now is the same problem with second gear, is if accelerate in first gear and quckly change into second it goes in neutral, its only by 2nd gear the rest is ok. (Sorry for bad gramatics)
Curious to know if you solved the issue. I have to same problem now after completing this mod. 2nd gear never likes to engage when shifting from 1st to 2nd.

@eddy6781 If that connector pops out that means the wire is under too much tension, it shouldn't be.
As for the ball bearing, you need that cause that's what make the shifter "click" and provide the "notichness" feel when you shift. Check your local hardware stores for replacement steel ball bearings, if you are in the US, check ACE hardware as some stores carry them.

@nagged55 The potentiometer show/visible at 3:35 was not put back in the correct angle into the casing. Make sure it is pointing directly downward into the bottom of the enclosure.
@bettafish110 read the description, there is G25 after the mod feels like G27 shifter.. so u don't need to do anything! one tip, press the caps button on the keyboard, then it uses small font =)

Hi chilicoke i did this mod a few months ago and my shifted is messed up but works anyway i did what you said it was going well but i lost the ball bearing and spring now im scared to open up my shifter because the connecter thing show at 3:37 doesnt hold the position so now my shifter works but feels very loose there is no clicking noise made by the spring or what ever so what do i do plz help me =(
I still think the G27 is not stiff enough and still feels toy like compared my RSX with a Buddy Club short shifter. Is it possible if I do this mod to my G27 shifter?
@PowerstrokeRacing24 Unfortunately no, however I could possibly make some shifter paddles that adapt/add onto the shifter "buttons" on the DFP/DFGT. I always felt those shift buttons are one of the most disappointing things about those wheels.
the funny thing is is that although there is more technology in it than the apollo 13 control room but the only thing holding all of this together is a bunch of screws
I did this Mod along with the Ebrake mod last night. I did not feel too much of a difference in overall feel. I used a 5/16ths long wooden spacer (made from a chop stick). I also double layer electrical taped the holes to reduce clicking (figuring the added force from the spacer would make it louder). The result was not so much a heavier feel, but more of a notch into gear, or more of a hurtle. It is welcome and an improvement for sure, but not what I expected. Clicking is about the same. Thanks
Found some stuff at work that can be used as spacer... don't think I need the reverse gear mod because the G27 already got a good pressure on it. But increasing the gear-shift resistance would be awesome !
@RallyRacer188 Yes, it can be anything as long as it won't collapse under stress from the spring. You can even try cutting a small "spacer" out of chopsticks next time when you have Chinese food take-out.
absolutely brilliant video, took me quite a few tries but after i got my hands steady and watched how you did it a few times i got it in, the shifter which used to move just from touching it now changes properly! im just about to test if i got the potentiometers set right! :)
I performed this awesome mod last night, but ran into an issue I can't seem to resolve. After completing mod, the sequential mode of my G25 no longer functions (no light/no response from profiler or games). I double checked connections and cannot find anything loose or damaged and the switch that is opened when the selector is out of H-Gate mode appears to be functioning properly.
At first I thought it was a "travel issue" with the shifter but then realized that sequential light was not lit.
@halfrican99503 When you rotate the knob to switch between H/sequential it moves an assembly into/out of position to lock out the side gates. There is a switch/button that the assembly triggers to enable/disable sequential shift. Sorry I don't remember the details but look for anything that is/should be triggered by the assembly and trouble shoot from there.
Also make sure wires aren't being crushed by the casing when you put everything back together.
@halfrican99503 I had a problem with the sequential mode as well...but only on up shifts. checked it on iRacing.com and could see that the shifter was sticking on the up shifts. So I took it back apart and lubed the two metal plates and I think I had the large switch plate upside down (not sure if that would make a difference) but what ever I did it fixed the problem. :]
when you do the Ball bearing Spacer, does that help eliminate the clicking sound when you shift, or would it be better to go and get a check-ball that is plastic that ford uses in the F-150 transmissions?

hello i have a Logitech G25 and i would like to do this but i have one concern.
By doing this will it by any means effect the wear and tear of the system? making it prone to damage easily or it's life span decreased? thanks for anyone who answers
@eddy6781, Make sure both potentiometers shown at 3:36 are pointing downward into their positions when you assemble the unit back into the enclosure. The "stiffness" of each shifts is determined by the force/pressure the spring puts on the ball bearing (which is why we added the spacer). Double check that.
So I did the mod and somewhere along the process I screwed up and my gears are backwards.....what should be 6th is 1st and what should be 5th is 2nd, etc. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
I am getting my G25 in a couple of days ! cant wait to mod it :D

so the shifter is a bit buggy and it fells VERY loose can you make a suggestion as to what i could do?

Hi chilicoke i did this mod a few months ago and my shifted is messed up but works anyway i did what you said it was going well but i lost the ball bearing and spring now im scared to open up my shifter because the connecter thing show at 3:37 doesnt hold the position so now my shifter works but feels very loose there is no clicking noise made by the spring or what ever so what do i do plz help me =(

I still think the G27 is not stiff enough and still feels toy like compared my RSX with a Buddy Club short shifter. Is it possible if I do this mod to my G27 shifter?

I followed your excellent DIY guide successfully.
As I hoped it also "repaired" the problem I had with 1st 3rd and 5th gear.
Its better than new :-)

@PowerstrokeRacing24 Unfortunately no, however I could possibly make some shifter paddles that adapt/add onto the shifter "buttons" on the DFP/DFGT. I always felt those shift buttons are one of the most disappointing things about those wheels.

I did this Mod along with the Ebrake mod last night. I did not feel too much of a difference in overall feel. I used a 5/16ths long wooden spacer (made from a chop stick). I also double layer electrical taped the holes to reduce clicking (figuring the added force from the spacer would make it louder). The result was not so much a heavier feel, but more of a notch into gear, or more of a hurtle. It is welcome and an improvement for sure, but not what I expected. Clicking is about the same. Thanks

Found some stuff at work that can be used as spacer... don't think I need the reverse gear mod because the G27 already got a good pressure on it. But increasing the gear-shift resistance would be awesome !

@RallyRacer188 Yes, it can be anything as long as it won't collapse under stress from the spring. You can even try cutting a small "spacer" out of chopsticks next time when you have Chinese food take-out.

I performed this awesome mod last night, but ran into an issue I can't seem to resolve. After completing mod, the sequential mode of my G25 no longer functions (no light/no response from profiler or games). I double checked connections and cannot find anything loose or damaged and the switch that is opened when the selector is out of H-Gate mode appears to be functioning properly.
At first I thought it was a "travel issue" with the shifter but then realized that sequential light was not lit.

@halfrican99503 When you rotate the knob to switch between H/sequential it moves an assembly into/out of position to lock out the side gates. There is a switch/button that the assembly triggers to enable/disable sequential shift. Sorry I don't remember the details but look for anything that is/should be triggered by the assembly and trouble shoot from there.
Also make sure wires aren't being crushed by the casing when you put everything back together.

@halfrican99503 I had a problem with the sequential mode as well...but only on up shifts. checked it on iRacing.com and could see that the shifter was sticking on the up shifts. So I took it back apart and lubed the two metal plates and I think I had the large switch plate upside down (not sure if that would make a difference) but what ever I did it fixed the problem. :]

when you do the Ball bearing Spacer, does that help eliminate the clicking sound when you shift, or would it be better to go and get a check-ball that is plastic that ford uses in the F-150 transmissions?

hello i have a Logitech G25 and i would like to do this but i have one concern.

@rewindablender no but there is shifter paddles on the steering wheel and that will work on a vehicle with an unlimited amount of gears

anyway i decided to attempt this mod again (not a good idea) but u no
i tried it again,
i removed the shaft and did as u said i made sure the black thing was pointing down
i put it bak toggether and pluged it in BUT when i put on a game though
some of the gears dont respond like 2,4,5 and 6 only 1 and 3?
ive took it apart and put it bak toggether like 9999999 times but the same thing happens :(
plz help me or could you give me some suggestiong on what to do plz?

@eddy6781, Make sure both potentiometers shown at 3:36 are pointing downward into their positions when you assemble the unit back into the enclosure. The "stiffness" of each shifts is determined by the force/pressure the spring puts on the ball bearing (which is why we added the spacer). Double check that.

So I did the mod and somewhere along the process I screwed up and my gears are backwards.....what should be 6th is 1st and what should be 5th is 2nd, etc. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
