I love both versions! Why is it when one is perceived to be better it is because it is "anointed"? Is it because Aretha also does secular? What if two Gospel singers did the same song? You have to remember that Aretha was an early influence of a lot of the Gospel girls (Vanessa included). It's a matter of preference but both are great. Vanessa just didn't smoke her top away so she has more power. Had Aretha done it back in her heyday I think it would've been a different outcome.

I think Aretha sounds waaay better singing this. I only like the music on Vanessa because she used live instruments and Aretha used a studio track. But vocally Aretha got this on lock. Even with the state her voice was in for the recording.
