if you listen to what palin says, she wants letterman to apologize not to her, (and she doesn't even mention apologizing to willow, who was the target of the joke)... but to all young women. she makes her daughter into a symbol, the same way she did on the campaign trail, and that's why i cannot be angry at letterman. if you use your children to make points in the media, you can't really come back and say they're off limits. letterman's joke is tasteless, but her response is even worse.

After watching the jokes in question, it's pretty clear to me that it was Palin that put her kids in harms way back during the campaign. Letterman is just referencing a pregnancy that everyone knows about because Palin used it in her campaign. Letterman makes bad jokes all the time, that's part of his shtick. The difference is that Palin so desperately wants to be taken seriously that she's willing to do ANYTHING to gain attention.

The older daughter is the one that went and got herself knocked up. Also the word "rape" was never used.
