Everybody who bashes Ed Coan about his steroid use is a fucking moron. Everybody who has deadlifted over 700 lbs uses steroids. There are thousands of dudes in gyms across America who use steroids and they are just training as a hobby. Do you really think the top guys aren't on? Get over it!
Ed Coan lifted in drug tested and non drug tested compitition. He kicked ass either way. No one could touch him on any level playing field. And I will even go as far as saying "before he got hurt you could have drug test Ed and let all others do whatever they wanted and ED Coan would still have won"
Guys back then where so fuckin strong i dont care if they are on steriods i bet that his dl suit adds 20 lb or less and that there are only a few shw that could even hit raw or in that type suit
Lamar also had hilariously long arms and a spine that compressed when he pulled. What was a "deadlift" for him would be a rack pull for most of us. His body was just blessed for pulling.
so now people with good genetics should not be considered impressive? He had a ridiculous bench and squat at his size, 12x bodyweight total and 17 world championship wins.
who cares about steroids.. you're naiive if you thik the top ten in ANY sport aint using them.. might as well legalise them so we can have open events.. none of this creating designer hard to find gas.. :P

Hey, the guy was rough but what he said was basicly true. As good as Coan was there have been better who haven't tested posiitive and banned for life. He was consistent which gained him notoriety. Modern powerlifters inside the sport know of Ed Coan's disgrace. It's an embarrasment the sport has to bear, and no one likes to talk about. Detractors of the sport always point to Ed Coan as why powerlifting is a bad sport. The guy is a pariah at many lifting meets.
Ed Coan is a drug cheat caught so many times the international lifting organization had no choice but to ban him for life. It's the same as if he was a habitual criminal and received a life sentence to protect society. I don't hate Ed Coan but I hate the fact he's a DRUG CHEAT.
"cranes up their butts.." ! that's good, fuck monolifts, synthetic hormones, belts, etc. you cross a certain point where you stop using your own dick and replace it with a 10 inch black strap-on, we need more uri spinovs
I do not understand the "wows" for sombody on roids. What next? Guys with hidden mechanical cranes up their butts lifting 40feet containers in ports? Shall we clap our hands to that too?
i'm pretty sure it was 903 that he did..which was a semi sumo style with his hands being inside and then outside when he locks it out. i gareentee that record will probably never be broken. it's fuckin insane 903 @ 220. another freak is oleksandr kutcher..792lbs @ 165..pound for pound best deadlift in the world
yeah how about kutchers squat at that same meet i believe it was around 830 at 165 not to mention he did it in a single ply suit at a meet where everyone else was squatting in jacked up gear
oh please!...i saw him at the ARNOLD...as with any other guy that juices now that he is clean he has shrunk!..the older i get the more cynical i become. people that have done well in bb or powerlifting owe their entire career, fame, and glory to steroids. that or their genetic makeup that lets them absorb steroids better than other athletes. anyone believing that there is any one dominant athlete not using them is deluding themselves
Perhaps now that Coan is no longer training the same way to be the most dominant force in powerlifting may have something to do with it as well? Whether you're juicing or not, if you stop training the same and start to slow down (Ed is no longer a young guy in his prime), you're going to be smaller down the line. Juiced or natural, that's the reality, so it isn't even an issue here for what he looks like now.
I'm sorry but its not Ed that I dislike, its the steroids. My father has been in powerlifting all his life, he was one of the IPF guys closely involved in the Coan prosecution, and I've seen a few friends of our family get serious health problems and even a couple dead from steroid abuse.
u sure he was 240 here? he seems failry small for a 240 guy

It would be nice if someone had video of his 900+ pulls at 220 from the old days.
All you guys that blast him about steroids are speaking out of your rears. It takes a hell of a lot more than steroids to be that strong.

theres a vid of his 900 @ 220 on here somewhere

@secuervo You have to have used to understand just how small a part they play in the bigger picture of being strong.

Steroids or not, it's still impressive. I know loads of steroid freaks who are recreational lifters who can't even come close to those lifts.
