Non-rate materials, 100% theoretical efficiency, and very rapid storage. Why not? Flywheels seems perfectly suitable for short-term energy storage to balance loads over periods of ~1 day or so.
With magnetical suspension in a vacuum container? I've heard of far less fancy flywheels with decent efficiency, I would imagine that this easily reaches +90%.
Anyway, the company is bankrupt but there is a working facility with these. Dunno if these turned out to be a crappy solution after all.
...great idea... THX

Thanks for working on this idea. I have been thinking about it. I plan to make the same type of bike. Gary.

Why not put the money into research of chemical batteries instead of wasting it on loud motors that comsume extra energy?

@MikaelLAOhman probably, but much of the stored power is turned into heat

Power is a form of energy as is heat, light, force, mechanical etc!
The life expectancy is 20 years.

@jamesekeenan He is right, watts are not energy. They probably mean 1 megawatt-hour as watt-hours is the standard measurement of electrical energy.
For reference, a watt-hour is 3600 Joules(which is a measure of energy).

1-MW is power not energy.
How much energy can you store?
Also what is the life expectancy of this system?
