The harness is to steady the framework which is STILL inside the suit.
The fabric alone will not give you the control you need for increasing surface area.
Your arms will PUSH(and control angle of each wing frame indepently)the framework open to speed up,wind resistance will naturally cause the wings to pull inwardly allowing the capacity to slow and flare.
The simple goal is increased glide ratio and reasonably decreased velocity.
Horizontal velocity can increase at the expense of downwar
The inner point of each leading edge would attach to the harness by a ball joint and the wing would fold outward at the mid-point on each side with more of a hinge arrangement.
They could only fold outward so far till the hinge locks with the fabric spread to the optimum point.
One last entirely different thing.
I believe a properly designed shape would allow a man to freefall directly into deep water from altitude.
Definitely if suspension is involved.
You'd probably be more inside than you prefer to,
but you could do it again and again.
FWIW.

PS part 2,
Horizontal velocity can increase at the expense of downward velocity which is what you really want, yes?
That is what a better glide slope is all about.
Distance covered and thus area of operations will increase dramatically with increased glide ratio.
It's the suit, not the technique or the ramp that
is important.
To double the surface area is not a large overall increase, perhaps .5 meter on each
wing.
Feet stay the same.
I mixed up push&pull in first comment.

TBC
Pull in to dive,speed up...
push out to flare.
Just ask the little lion.
You should get more for your $2M than just one ramp.

Doesn't look like a Vampire,
looks more like a Snow Angel.
If you stretch a folding framework like an M
^^ across a harness you can use your arms
to spread and control it.
The inner point of each leading edge would attach to the harness by a ball joint and the wing would fold outward at the mid-point on each side with more of a hinge arrangement.

You can pull in to speed up,dive,
then push ou
