Did taking his armor really cut down his leath that much? and his saber? Is it any good?

@mysterymastermind175 Yeah, the armor and equipment don't get special "multiplier's" in this first disgaea game, only weapons with high skill mastery give nice bonuses to stats. The Celestial Armor barely did a thing to Vulcanus' health, but the armor is still very good for Defense and by taking it and equipping it to Laharl, Laharl becomes that much stronger in his own Defense and all around stats while the enemy loses some vital stats like the Defense.

Second comment: His weapon is fairly good indeed for any monsters you may have in your party, for myself, I equipped the monster weapon to Thursday (Super Robot).

All the equipment on these characters should be better stuff than the average player can get at this point in the game, so stealing anything, especially the Celestial Armor, will do some good for the player.
