  • best bass solo ever

  • Linda!!!

  • oh yeahhh. straight to my mp3 player.

  • in a music contest, rush is the only band chuck norris cant beat

  • <3 Great !!

  • I am speecheless. I have no speech....

  • Brilliant RUSH symbolize the Intelligent audience of thinkers who expend their commercial energy for the common good over the corrupt politicians and banksters who only care about worthless promise to pay paper money which is backed by the creativity and energy of the people.

  • @daviddalbylive Thank you for those amazing words. I could not agree more.

  • Magic!!!!!

  • My absolute favorite version of Closer to the Heart.

  • What can I say? Perfect lyrics, perfect guitar, perfect drums, perfect band!

  • Hey guitar players, why did Alex drop the double neck guitar I've seen in earlier videos? He is wearing two in this video, and it seems that the double would be more convenient. I don't play, so I'm just askin'!

  • @sclingeman

Not sure about about Lifeson in '88, but for some guitarists, as they get older the guitars change for various reasons. Take Scott Gorham of Thin Lizzy; he said he swapped his Les Paul for a Strat because "The thing about the Les Paul is it's a great guitar - looks great sounds great - but it's so ****ing heavy! It's like wheeling along a bag of cement!"

  • @sclingeman

I think it's because the acoustic part of this song is played on a 6 string and while other videos of him playing the double neck are usually on Xanadu and songs like that. The top neck of the double neck is a twelve string so it wouldn't be required for a song like this. Plus I'd imagine it's really damn heavy.

  • I think they rest thier case. Nobody can touch them really.

  • i wish geddy would sing in this like he did in exit stage left with song

  • What guitars is alex using? looks awesome

  • i was watching VH1 classic and this song came on and it was a music video but it was not the lame one with geddys eyes. it was like them now than it would cut away to other tours were they were playing this song and they ended with this awesome bass riff. what i'm getting at is what the crap do i have to look up to see that again!

  • I like the Flock of Seagulls hair on Alex Lifeson :)

  • undoubtedly, always were, and always will be......the best Canadian Band....

  • @JFDhater Undoubtedly always were, and always will be, the best Earth band.

  • @JFDhater as a Triumph fan i have to say the 2 bands are #1 and 1a, it must have been AMAZING to live un the Toronto area in the 80s

  • @theaxis2000 I have to agree with you that Triumph is also an excellent example of the art of music from Canada. there is something to be said about 3 some bands from Canada.

  • @JFDhater yeah there is. isnt Zebra also from canada?

  • @theaxis2000 I have no idea where Zebra is from. I have heard some of their music, and I do love it. SOngs like "Bears" is amazing.

  • @theaxis2000 zebra is from new orleans,la

  • Rush Is from Canada? What state Is Canada In?

  • @snoopmax1965 Wow man, classic american dumbfuck. Buy a world map.

  • @LockerzSwagbucks please forgive snoopmax1965......it isn't his fault that he believes that New York is the center of the universe.....

  • @LockerzSwagbucks Successful troll is successful apparently.

  • @snoopmax1965 funny......but Canada is in a good 'state' (peaceful and productive)......unlike their neighbors to the south....."Depression States"

  • Yeah remember Frankfurt 1988

  • saw RUSH PLay Abbey Road Pub 1969 God am i OLd

  • mine yoo. and it is all worn out. and pink floyd! i'm not proud to be canadian as i know you are but am proud to know you and share friendship and proud to be american...love and blessings dianna

  • all of the versions of this song are awesome, but i quite enjoy this one a little bit more and especially the arrangements at the ending

  • I love rush it's THE BEST

  • @footballdude203 macfag detected

  • It's funny when Alex runs away at the beginning of the bass solo/breakdown.

  • best live version of the song ever it is now all over all of my pages from yahoo to facebook

    ROCK ON RUSH

  • holy shit i saw these guys at the att center at san antonio last nite and like always for 13 years in my book (im 13 years old).............. failed to dissapoint me

may rush and rush fans live long and justin beiber fans go to hell

  • @superslayerguy Justin Bieber dosen't deserve to be mention in the same sentence as Rush.

  • @PestigeKelpone Perfect!

  • @PestigeKelpone Thats your generations fault, my generation would beat up anybody named justin right from the get go.

  • How about a "show of hands" for how awesome this performance is!!!

  • The only good thing to come out of Canada besides hockey.

  • @happyface4444 Hey -- don't forget Pat Travers, Max Webster (Kim Mitchell), SCTV/Bob & Doug, Martin Short (RIP Mrs. Short), William Shatner, and "Due South."

  • @happyface4444 Neil young, tragically hip ?

  • Eargasm!

  • One of my favorite things about Rush is how comfortable they are on stage. Alex is skipping around behind Neil while Geddy plucks away on the bass doing scissor kicks.

  • Rush makes me proud to be Canadian, they are soooo much better than the (unfortunately) Canadian music most people my age listen too, im 15 so you know who that is

  • Rush makes me proud to be Canadian, they are soooo much better than the (unfortunately) Canadian music most people my age listen too, im 15 so you know who that is

  • bass solo fukin rocks

  • I love the electronic drums There good for 1981

  • Get Rushed

  • Back in 1989, I had never heard of Rush, but I found Hold Your Fire at the library. I wasn't too thrilled by it. I have always loved live-albums, so later I found A Show Of Hands, and it did the trick. What a fantastic band. I'm doing my best to teach my kids all about the great bands of the last 50 years. It's a tough job, but I hope it's worth it in the end. My daughter (age 7) likes Coldplay, and my son (age 11) asked me if we could go to a concert with Linkin Park. We went and it was OK.

  • @noersang u rock man 4 teachin ur kids about this awsome music. i went through wat ur kids r goin through now my dad got me all hypied up on this band, rock on brotha

  • @superslayerguy. Thanks for your reply. I'm sad to say, that most of the music these days is awful, but I think that's been parent's comment to their childrens music through the last 500 years, and it will be so until the end of time. Never the less, we who have good taste, must continue playing our fantastic records for our children.

  • @noersang exactley man keep rokin and showing ur kids the badass music that is un fourtnaley dyieng slowley and being over ruled by queers shuch as justin beeber n shit. again keep rokin on brotha

  • i think i've bought enough rush albums to not be a free loader ha ha ha!

  • is geddy using auto-tune?

  • @BenAndDylanINC hell no

  • Happy belated birthday Getty!!!!!

  • 2 dislikes Rush is that good it should be 0 dislikes

  • don't dislike this song

  • What is that synth effect/backing during the solo?Is Geddy triggering it on the foot pedals.

  • @0ua8 yea, in alot of songs where their is a synth while bass is playing, they pre record it and geddy and/or alex trigger it.

  • I used to watch this VHS so much when I got it in high school years ago!... What a great, crescendo ending! Inspiring!...

  • Ugh... Why couldn't I have been born like 15 years earlier? sigh, that concert looks amazing.

  • QUEREMOA A RUSH EN CHILE!!!!!!!!!!

  • @sedoanarko Se viene loco, se viene!!!

  • Geddy Lee ma Polske korzenie ! dlatego jest taki wyjebany ^^'

  • best live version ever made....

  • This is EXACTLY why Rush is the best band to ever exist. Such power:)

  • they might bring this back next tour

  • @rushrulez1 Their next tour kicks off on June 29th, 2010 in Albuquerque, NM, and they are supposed to cover the Moving Pictures album, calling the tour "The Time Machine Tour" and "I'll be there, and I know, what I know, and I know, we told you before, but you didn't hear us then so you still question why? No, you didn't listen again!" Oops sorry, got carried away. LoL! Can't wait!

  • @Satonica on my fan site, theres an interveiw with geddy lee and he released 3 song titles, "Research","The Unfinished Business", and "Caravan"

  • @bllpg9 I wonder if "The Unfinished Business" has anything to do with "The Main Monkey Business." :P

  • @proudlyrushian hahaha, the squeal ;P

  • mantabb cooyyy

  • my god what a rare voice

  • There's no mystery to it, it's a Signature Aurora. That's not my opinion, it's a fact. Go to the "thesignatureguitarcompany" site and scroll down a third of the page and see Alex for yourself. There are a million places where you can read about his guitars. He had several Signature guitars in the late 80s in a few different colors.

  • your right tthanks

  • The guitar is a Signature Aurora. Signature was a small Canadian company Alex supported for a short time.

  • i dont think its an ibanez, there arnt enough little white letters. it looks like it almost says "ESP"

  • I thought he played a Kramer at this point?

  • YAAAGH!! gotta love the rockin out section at the end

  • My first RUSH casette was "A Show of Hands" at 12 years old. At the time, Much Music played videos from that tour and that is how I got hooked. This album still is my favorite RUSH album. I can live on RUSH and Pink Floyd alone. The two best bands that ever was. I am proud that RUSH is Canadian... Peace!

  • yeah man, you are so right !

    good music and peace!

  • @danomitelive Ever listen to Triumph? Also Canadian anda trio. Very good as well.

  • @danomitelive Dude Pink Floyd and Rush for life!

  • @0Banjo0 Bud, you are so right! I was lucky enough to see Pink Floyd's Roger Waters The Wall live in Ottawa last October and believe me, it was awsome. My luck didn't end there... Last week I got 2 tickets to see RUSH live in Montreal on April 20th. This is unbelievable, I get to see my favorite bands within months of each other. I can scratch out numbers 1 and 2 from my bucket list. Peace!

  • @danomitelive i could survive on rush and opeth alone. opeth's new album will be like a trip back into the 70's. i love artistic prog-rock. great. i wish i grew up on rush like you did, i've been listening to them for 4 years now, i'm 20 now. i got to know them through a comedy show called "trailerpark boys", haha. who knows that awful kind of comedy stuff would add such amazing music into your life?

  • niice bass groove at the end eh?

  • @bllpg9 That's why they put it in the album ;)

  • my favorite version (and there are quite a few)

  • I like the one from Different Stages the best. Only because I don't care for the electronic drums here. But, this exact video is better than any other song ever by any other band (excluding Rush's other songs) :D

  • @y011yo I like this one and the one from "Different Stages"

  • Hurray!

  • One of their best and they seem to be "all in it" Liked Neil's chimes on "Exit" a bit more though.

  • lol look at the tiny drum!! 2:17!

  • Comment removed

  • wow, Geddy's got a honker nose dont he? that might be the secret to all that talent

  • The wizard's nose i'm sure

  • @ipvideogames he is comparable to a witch

  • Wow STILL luv this tune...Rock-on

  • the best.

  • Oh !! Can.. a ...da !! Rush!!

  • does anyone know what kind of bass geddy uses for a show of hands?

  • A Wal. Geddy had it custom made in the UK!

  • RUSH the best band ever

  • pretty fucking good for only 3 guys. i heard that the drummer is one of the best drummers out there.

  • Oh, he is. :)

This isn't one of his more impressive drum tracks. Check La Villa Strangiato or something along the lines of their instrumentals. Perhaps "Rush YYZ Drum solo" here on youtube, it'll rock your socks.. ;)

  • best rock drummer in the world and the only rock drummer to receive the buddy rich drummer award, all the others were jazz, he's pretty much, the best

  • one very nice song

    geddy is the man

  • have all their cassettes...

  • after this live album

geddy didn't quite sound the same

  • man geddy lee looks so different

i watched i love you man last night and realised i hadnt listened to enough rush they kick ass. Slap a de bass

  • I was there at the NEC Birmingham...will never forget it!! Crackin night!!

  • im 14 and i love this band

  • i heard Geddy Lee had re-constructive surgery on his vocal chords?

    is, was this?

oh and by the way. MY FAVORITE BAND EVER!!! GO RUSH!!!

  • they smile, are hopeful in song and spirit, and they flat out rock

  • I was at opening show of the Roll the Bones tour all I can say is amazing....I have not seen a better band live ever

  • and there was rolling stone saying they are "uncool"... f*** rolling stone

rush is the coolest band ever

  • The guys from Rolling Stone are still in the 'early days'. See for instance the reviews of the albums of the Rolling Stones: nothing new, still the same old music, but the so called journalists find it amazing...

  • Freaking priceless. I had this concert on the orginal VHS. Rush concerts are priceless; and Rush fans are the nicest people in the world....by the end of each concert you have made friends with everyone around you. Everyone is intense, yet happy at a Rush concert!

  • Bad Ass! One of the only bands of my time I never seen, Damn!

  • wtf

    his wal bass is amazing

  • Yeah, its so amazing that it sits in it's case in a closet and is NEVER played anymore. LIke a lot of guys, he has discovered that all you need is a great Jazz bass. The Wal lacks that growl that Jazz basses are known for. All us bass players go through our "fancy" bass stage. My Kubicki sits in the closet while my old p bass gets gigged all the time. But the Kubicki like the a Wal sounds amazing.

  • Killer Bass solo!

  • geddy lee is the coolest musician i know!

  • hardcore

  • amazing canadian band Fucking love rush

  • that break....what a time...3 guys just making music..........

  • Fabulous version of one of my favourite Rush songs.

I'm buying A Show of Hands right now.

  • Doesn't get any better than this...classico~~~~~

  • the holy trinity!

  • Loving Alex's guitar in this...anyone know what guitar it is?

  • Looks like a Kramer.

  • Yeah, that's what I thought...it also looks a bit like a Jackson or a Caparison, but it's quite unusual for a rock guitarist to use guitars like those

  • I remember reading about it in an article a few months back...apparently it was a short-lived Canadian guitar/bass company named "Signature Guitar Co." As a matter of fact, Google search "signature guitar company" and the first link will lead you to info about it and what role Alex played in making these guitars famous.

  • Ah okay :), thanks, much appreciated, I just wish they still made them, I want 1 :P

  • should have kept steinberger. He use it on the previous tour. That thing was so bright and poppy, sounded alive, sounded awesome.

  • Man but that Wal he's using here sounds fantastic as well! If they weren't so expensive, I'd get one myself!

  • yeah. look up wal pro bass. One of the first vids is a guy playing one direct in to computer. Its the cleanest you will ever hear it without actually hearing it

  • Right after the line "Philosophers and ploughmen" I love the little smile Geddy gives. (:

  • wow i couldnt find this song because those bastards at the record company

  • 2:51--Geddy getting down.

    3:15---I love Alex's look.

3:53---There are few better things in this world then when Geddy and Alex line up next to each other and start rocking like that. Hell yea!

  • Does anyone know what kind of stand Lifeson uses to hold his acoustic up? I've seen the Journey keyboardist with one as well when he plays rhythm, and I need one for my band...

  • That is known as an "Omega Stand". Alex actually invented it.

  • Aah... Are they extremely expensive>?

  • I love watching them run around all over the stage like that. I also love how Geddy Lee has kept his signature one-legged hop around the stage to this day, even though they're getting a little old to be jumping and running around, lol.

  • New Wave Hairdos, the Miami Vice suits, electric drums. Thank God Rush went for the slick, yuppy image in the 80's. I can not even imagine Geddy, Neil and Alex in spandex with teased hair!

  • I think if you teased Geddy's hair it'd try to eat you. xD

  • you know, this was an awsome video, i want to learn that end jam on the bass!!!

  • just ask geddy i'm sure he will teach you if you are serious!

  • you know, i bet ur right

  • its faster than u think

  • The End Jam is the chords when they sing Closer To The Heart. It's D, A, G

  • ok cool, thanx man

  • why he sing like that

  • hobbit? waaaaaaw u must be a nerd

  • go die

  • What a beautiful song. My favorite. I always dug Rush's earlier stuff. I haven't kept up with them though. My bad.

  • jeeeh!! romorow iv'got this CD :D

  • BALLIN!

  • best song by rush....best lyrics ever....gawwd

  • rush makes me proud to be canadian

  • INDEED!!!!

  • Yes agreed!!! Canadians rule!!!!!!

  • Im American... And Im glad your Canadian because of Rush XD
