But you can also look at it this way...MMA has more disciplined strikers because their strikers can knock guys out who are threatening them with a wider variety of weapons. Case in point, James Toney. His striking was effective in boxing where the rules protected him. But the most disciplined strikers are the ones who can stop the grapplers long enough to find the range and knock them out. Part of striking should be defending against non-strikers.

You said it yourself, MMA is closer to a street-fight, but than say boxing is more straight up fighting? You contradicted yourself. Real fighters aren't afraid of being slammed on the ground, beaten in the face from the mount, or choked. Boxers need more rules, because they aren't as skilled fighters.

The fight ALLOWED Toney to use his base (boxing) it couldn't hold up against Randy's base (Grappling) MMA does not favor grappling over striking, it favors whoever has the stronger base, and is able to implement it. A boxing match with Coutour however would favor Toney's base over Randy's, because it forbids grappling. Getting it all yet?

@mcnabbftw1 alot of ufc fighters have boxing back grounds and have good chins, as soon as the got hit theyd realize they need to get a take down. boxers will always have that punches chance advantage, but passed that they dont have anything on mma guys

Agreed but as a former boxer and training guys in a boxing gym shared with an mma gym I can tell you the longer the fight goes standing the better the boxers chance. There are amateur boxers in my gym who completely dominate professional mma fighters from the mma gym right next to us.
I look at these issues as a chosen art. Not something to be cynical about. The truth is for the most part mma fighters suck at striking. It's the truth.

A boxer's legs are crucial to his speed and for striking power; if you neutralize one of those legs, you greatly reduced his fighting ability.

What you all seem to forget that boxing is one of the laying foundations for fighting in general. If you can look past your ego and accept ground fighting, mixed in with your foundation boxing skills, you will flourish.

But you can also look at it this way...MMA has more disciplined strikers because their strikers can knock guys out who are threatening them with a wider variety of weapons. Case in point, James Toney. His striking was effective in boxing where the rules protected him. But the most disciplined strikers are the ones who can stop the grapplers long enough to find the range and knock them out. Part of striking should be defending against non-strikers.

You said it yourself, MMA is closer to a street-fight, but than say boxing is more straight up fighting? You contradicted yourself. Real fighters aren't afraid of being slammed on the ground, beaten in the face from the mount, or choked. Boxers need more rules, because they aren't as skilled fighters.

The fight ALLOWED Toney to use his base (boxing) it couldn't hold up against Randy's base (Grappling) MMA does not favor grappling over striking, it favors whoever has the stronger base, and is able to implement it. A boxing match with Coutour however would favor Toney's base over Randy's, because it forbids grappling. Getting it all yet?

Agreed but as a former boxer and training guys in a boxing gym shared with an mma gym I can tell you the longer the fight goes standing the better the boxers chance. There are amateur boxers in my gym who completely dominate professional mma fighters from the mma gym right next to us.
I look at these issues as a chosen art. Not something to be cynical about. The truth is for the most part mma fighters suck at striking. It's the truth.

What you all seem to forget that boxing is one of the laying foundations for fighting in general. If you can look past your ego and accept ground fighting, mixed in with your foundation boxing skills, you will flourish.
Calling boxing useless is a stupid opinion. Boxing can be a foundation. What is fair to say is that if you depend on boxing solely, it is very risky.

@kjkidd boxing in not the foundation its the simplest way of fighting. BJJ and boxing will get you no where you have to know everything. Your clinch, takedowns, submissions, transsions, kicks, knees, and cage control. Boxing is a primitive and outdated form of fighting.

I would say kick boxing is all of those things, INCLUDING boxing with your hands, which means, learning how to box with your hands can be seen as the basic foundation, as learning how to kick properly, accurately, and be flexible is much more difficult. I never said BJJ and boxing will be all that you need. Be open, don't judge and don't have a god complex
