All over the world I did not see this stupid like this country! , does it make sense to have an international airport and the rate of every 90 minutes there is a landing aircraft and the boarding , resides between the buildings and main streets and petrol station ? !
This is the large number of people around airport, the petrol station the reason for the increase set on fire , causing an increase in the number of dead,Is it possible to keep this airport like this place after the piece ???
Not even at the 10 minute mark, but if the airport's runway is 2000 meters long, on a hill, and in the middle of a city, I'm just taking a shot in the dark here, but it might be past time to build another airport away from the city.
Oh, and there's a gas station at the base of the hill...
30.22: That's a reversal of logical probability outcomes. 400 Billion hours of flight (if he really meant that number) makes such a failure much more likely, not less (even if it wasn't what caused this particular accident). You have a 14 million to one chance of ever being killed by a meteorite in your lifetime. If you live long enough, you will be hit by a meteorite! (Just after you won the lottery probably. That's called Sod's Law!!).
@MidwayCastaway the plane that made Hudson River Miracle landing possible was an Airbus, its automation flew the plane at minimum speed, without stall, so the pilot could ditch it at minimum impact, let's see how a Boeing could have done it
Which IDIOT designed and constructed this airport and surroundings??....I guess they thought it would be "kool" to have an airport on a hill, in the middle of a city, with a gas station directly facing the run-way....... -___-
@qwerty35124 did you ever heard the therm City Expansion ??? , I mean when Congonhas was opened for ops there was almost no buildings and surroundings nearby the airport...hope this clarify your non sense comment.
@qwerty35124 No idiot 'designed' it that way. Its due urbanisation of the city surrounding the airport and other contributing localised logistical restraints you simple minded, slack-jawed fuckwit.
@qwerty35124 AMAZING...I'm watching the video shaking my head at the hill, the apartment buildings, the embankment...but when I hear now there's a GAS STATION TOO!!!
qwerty35124 Considering the notourious reputation of RWY35Left & its immeadiate built up surroundings, you would certainly have expected it to at least have had some basic form of EMAS protection.
But i guess its all down to that awful four letter word again.
COST!!!!!.
Anyway I doubt that EMAS would have saved this flight due to Eng2 being at power & the high speed of the airplane.
EMAS would have certainly made RWY35Left just that little bit safer.
@qwerty35124 Congonhas dates from 1936, back then the city was not like it is today, so considering that it has been growing a lot, it seems to me that the problem is not the place where it was built, but how the city grew all these years.
Pilots are SO well trained they become almost "robotic" in re-acting to emergency's.(My personal opinion) In a situation where Most people would scream at the top of they're lungs, Pilots remain relatively calm! But by the same token this "Robotic" reaction seems to keep them from thinking logically, .."Decelerate!!"..."IT CAN'T!!"...Umm...perhaps 'cause it's still acelerating!...Dark cabin? Can't see throttle position?...FEEL FOR IT!...(it's what an untrained person would instintivly & SCREAM!
@sertox12345 They couldn't use both air brakes because one was under repair, and you don't understand how much money they would lose keeping that queue closed. It was the pilots fault so make sure you've watched the full video before posting that comment.
@MrGameStarr Its not mechanics who choose if that kind of thing is fixed. Also flying with one reverse unoperable for some time is not dangerous really.
Does the FDR also contain thurst-control movements? Any hard facts for that? Or do the film makers just speculate that the pilot failed in operating them correctly? I remember it was said earlier in this report that the power of one engine INCREASES. This clearly rules out the estimated scenario.
@ColdClearNorth All ACI episodes are based on information that has been found in official investigation. And yes I think that FDR does indeed record thrust lever movements, after all its very important flight control.
It is the most irritating episode I' ve watched. Showing how they can make a plane company look not guilty.
1) In 33:25 they show what the pilot was thinking just before landing. For christ's sake.
2) In 30:40 they naivly exclude mechanical problem, by just studying one thruttle part (and that destroyed)
3) When the plane kept moving fast, even the stupidest person on earth would have immediately look back to the throttle and see he is doing something wrong. common sense,
just for knowledge, all the cockpit pictures (except thrust levers) are not from an AIRBUS. Also, rwy is called 35L, but it isnt pronounced that way. Its called 35 LEFT. Lots of airports in the world have two parallel rwys, Left and Right.
@EpicWafflezXD Bcause the rnwy is short, and take long time to reverse roll back to idle, than power up. Better you turn to some side and slide on the grass to a better place.
@sopantake Yes, there is evidence. The black boxes have that info. The cockpit voice recorder (CVR) records all voices in the cockpit. The flight data recorder (FDR) records all flight parameters (ex: attitude, altitude, speed, engine sttings, etc, etc). So, that info is on the FDR.
@joebpw209 Cut the crap! It's not some over dramatic crappy special affect hollywood flick that we are forced to pay $15 for at a local theater. Its a documentary.
after seeing the comments about this disaster, being a brazilian guy ,I know why they don't do anything to change this dangerous situation at Congonhas Airport
this airport is at the heart of Sao Paulo city and people and businesses need it....the other airport is outside the city, at Garulhos, known as Cumbica International Airport
Also Congonhas doesn't have any space around in order to grow in size, it's surrounded by buildings, streets and stuff
@JosephHua Normal flight on A320 is with thrust levers in the Climb (CLB) position with autothrust (A/THR) ON. Here thrust is managed by a computer (FADEC). They had A/THR ON just until touching the runway (which is normal to do). Just before touch down pilot shall put levers back to IDLE (which disarms A/THR). But if just one is in IDLE and the other in CLB (whith A/THR OFF), the lever which is not in IDLE will accelerate to CLB thrust (A/THR OFF). Thats why engine 2 did accelerate.
the main issue here is why they permitted 1 thrust reverser to be deactivated hence it is a safety features in every aircraft.....pilots are only human & prone to every errors......
@Captain9876543210 I prefer the other narrator too. His voice is kinda creepy, but I like it. It drives the seriousness home. Thnx so much for these uploads, love 'em :)

i hope that this runway 35l was arranged. it is easy to say what the pilots should have done but they had a lot of stress because of the 1 thrust reverser+the runway's reputation+bad weather combined a cain of errors leading to disaster. you should try the situation in a proper simulator using the captain's method to see what will you do.
@CaptainAirline I understand what you say regarding the pilot, but the 1st officer, he says deccellerate, deccellerate repeatedly and doesn't take a glance at the lever position which is on full throttle. How is that possible? should be the first thing to look at.

i dont see how they can fully blame the pilots when one engine wasnt working properley, the runway wasnt right and was flooded and it was half the length it should be,and flying guidelines were changed, surely these should be factored in for half the blame
It's a shame that with accidents like this, the only way anyone ever notices the problem is when disaster strikes. The ACI boards are good but the people that inspect runways, aircraft, facilities and procedures are either lacking or just incompetent.

Your committed to stopping if you have selected Reverse during landing, as safe flight is no longer possible with the thrust reversers deployed.
Why would the old procedure of reverse-throttling only one engine be more efficient and thus stop the plane faster? Surely, airbus would have designed an engine with deactivated reverse-throttle to go into idle by default.

The right thrust leaver wasnt set at full power - but guess its for TV-drama!
But the Brazilian investigation is really unprofessional and guessing its way through!
The right engine wouldent be speeding up unless the pilots actually put it to higher power.
My guess is that they somehow forgot to turn autothrottle off - this would put more power to the right engine - actually full power when it landed.
