This is disturbing. Reminds me of those freakish "real dolls" owners. A f*uck toy that doesn't talk back when you abuse it = perfection! Fem bots are even better, because they will also do things for you, clean your mess, serve beer... HEAVEN. *barf*
cont- Incidentally I think Chobits is more of a social commentary seeing as how it was written by women living in Japanese society. Dissecting the fembot fantasy while also comparing how this sort of thing is happening in Japan right now. Real women are feeling inadequate because the men are still impossibly sexist over there, and even find "real women" disgusting in comparison to 2D fap material. (Not that all anime is like that)
Either way, its still a shitty story, even if its done by women or not. In the end, we're still supposed to sympathize with the Hideki and his fembot Chi who basically has the brain of a three year old and the body of the super-model. Not a single character nor the society included in it made me feel sorry or thoughtful and the pseudo-porn shots with Chi and the others didn't help. Nothing was really resolved other than Hideki got to stay with his little computer babe. EW.
Seeing this reminded me of a show called Chobits. It's pretty sexist in pretty much the same way that you mentioned, but it also does talks about the emotional/ethical impacts something like "human-shaped computers" would have on people in the real world. Whether it's the men legitimately falling in love with these bots, or how the real-life women feel about them, or the feelings of the bots themselves (and whether they actually have feelings). Plus Chobits was made BY women! :o cont-
You NEED too see the movie Ghost in the Shell: Innocence. It strongly discusses the immorality of Fembots. Many of the Fembots actually commit suicide in order to avoid a life of subservience.
Now, if Chobits had done something more like this rather than trying to make the entire human/computer thing look 'sweet', then it would have been an interesting story.
I suppose a fair amount of psychology, not just raising and culture need to be taken into account. Obviously commercials like this work, or they'd stop using them. There's a bigger problem than sexism. We've a few million years of psychological modeling to contend with. It will be painful for both genders to come to a true equality, and it won't be soon. And damn, watching those make me glad I got rid of my tv.
My friend and I watched this video and I mentioned how creepy i find fembots. She pointed out that I had a crush on Data from Star Trek when I was little and still think he's kinda cute. She claimed this made me hypocritical. I disagreed because Data is not sexualized, is a developed character, and is considered a person, not property. She says he is still an emotionless android who can't love or be sexually attracted to anyone so it's still in the same catagory. What do you think?
I have read books with fembots in them, and only one of them had a fembot stand up for herself, which sounds good, but she did it by murder. That part kinda strikes me uncool.
Is it just me or do some of the fem bots have East Asian facial characteristics and hair styles? If so it wouldn't surprise me as it would tie in with the traditions of the Japanese Geisha and the Chinese concubine, the epitome of subordinate, devoted, deferring highly skilled sex slaves.
are you familiar with the "ghost in the shell" universe? the setting is so complex i think you would like to check it out.
the protagonist is a female cyborg cop that has little human material left. that leads her to a major theme...question "what does it take to be human?"
so in one hand you got the cheap use of the hot fem cyborg image, but on the other, she is the leader of the unit, the best soldier and smartest hacker.
oh, and the first movie is the single major influence for the matrix.
It goes without saying that this is offensive to women, but I would also like to put forward that this is also offensive to the men it is supposedly aimed at, obviously to a much lesser degree but offensive all the same. Do the people who directed this stuff truly think that straight men are so stupid/anti-feminist that they would buy into such a blatantly sexist and ludicrous fantasy? Do they really believe in the gender straight jacket world they have created here? It's scary stuff if they do.
Hmm, I thought the fantasy of control was equally about coercing or "taming" the woman into obedience, the man showing his power over the woman through conquest before she submits to him. Also equally about punishing a "disobedient woman" when she does not submit to his will. There's no putting a woman in her place if it's just the flip of a switch, I think there's a more sadistic aspect to the fantasy, that a fembot doesn't exactly provide, she must be beat down before she can be a slave.
@AmericaDevil I think the obsession with control is complex and can range from what you are referencing to something like the always obedient, ready to serve fembot fantasy.
Oh no! Dystopian Sci-Fi! The horror. Sorry, but have you noticed the sheer number of commericals out there that just play to the idea that customers are idiots? Commericals aren't social commentary, they play to the most basic and crass of our desires because they only care about making the target demo want to buy something. Complaining about that is like complaining that water is wet. Most male drinkers want sex... with women... who don't talk. target demo.
target demo= assholes who think they can just throw out women when they do something only THEY think is unattractive (ie, refuse to do anything on HIS will)
what's your take on the blurring of gender roles in society? for better or worse, the idea of 'masculinity' is going away. the traditional male and female roles are being demonized, but there are no obvious alternatives for men and women to identify with.
Brilliant. I think it's important to note that fembots do not 'liberate women', because a) they don't exist! b) The concept is offensive and sexist because adverts sell fantasies which are supposedly fulfilled by the product (in a real life incarnation, i.e. not an actual robot). The advertisers don't give people what they want, they tell people what they want so they are also damaging to men and sexuality, by perpetuating the association of female sexuality and subservience, passivity, silence
@SiLeNtPuNk1 Good points. Also, I think that even if fembots existed, men would still continue perpetuating violence against women. Perpetrators of violence against children are also primarily men. So sooner or later, when it's just 'not enough', the violence carried out on fembots would translate onto women.
If they wanted a fembot to liberate women...why not just have her star as the protagonist in an action series where she actually FIGHTS and does not use her body as a means to get men to do what she wants? (waits for examples)
Thanks for your intelligent critique of so many subjects. YouTube could have more of it. Get up your critical thinking everyone! And that's not the same as criticizing! You rock, feministfrequency!
Wouldn't the fembot actually be a good thing for people though? It could be a liberator, freeing women from all the BS expectations that men have of them. Imposing all the stigma and chores onto the machines instead of on thinking and feeling people.
@Grigori7 I don't think creating a machine (in the likeness of the "perfect woman") that fulfills some of the worst aspects of patriarchy and feeds into this kind of male fantasy is necessarily a good thing.
@Grigori7 It's not even a matter of 'what real fembots would be like' or what effect they would have on women and men, because we don't know because they don't really exist. What we do know is how the concept, the representation of the female form (in a subservient role, silent, with no feelings or opinions) does for people's perception of women and gender relations. Advertising is aspirational, it tells people what to desire, and then claims to give it to them for a reasonable fee.
It is disturbing and I don't see so many commercials nowadays thankfully but the shaver one was freaky indeed. And I think the robot got in the shower with the guy. Water resistant fembots? They think ahead at least. There's a lot hidden or not well hidden with the bots but if men used them to fulfill every desire would those men continue that trend with real women or actually enjoy a woman's company and not obsess over sex or demand so much?
okay, at first when i started watching you feministfrequency, i thought what you were saying was a load of crap. Then i starting watching more videos and you are right. Men fantasize to much. Men want women to be like pets. That's basically what fembots are!!
Wakeup heterosexual ladies. This is a pretty standard male sexual fantasy which has absolutely nothing to do with control. It's the fembot who's leading the man in these commercials. Those (guys and girls) who find it disgusting, creepy, etc. are confused and clueless on how to turn a man on sexually. So they rationalize it must be sexist and domineering. Men are just as confused when women fall for the bad boy. Same story...great upload!
@breathedml Fembots are absolutely about control, they are made to literally serve at the whim of its creator (which, indisputably is usually men). The reason these commercials are geared towards an exclusively male demographic is because advertisers know that many men grow up with the adolescent fantasy of a fembot/sexbot etc. A fembot only does what it is programmed to do and thus, your interpretation of "leading the man" doesn't hold up.
Leading the man with what??? Their body?? No we are not clueless...we know exactly what men are interested in...that is where the problem lies. @breathedml "It's the fembot who's leading the man in these commercials." But who's leading when the man decides to turn the off switch, or commands the fembot to make a drink? Fembots cannot lead beacuase they are THINGS. WOMEN WILL NEVER BE THINGS, THEY ARE PEOPLE!!
I wouldn't say standard because thankfully, there are men out there who don't join in this dickish attitude about women so its NOT the standard for all men. And I find it funny you blame the fembot, a creature devoid of any thought of her own except what she is programed to do, for leading the man on, even though as the supposed higher being, he could chose to keep his nuts in his pants instead of going after the robot. My immature side wants a plaything. But what I truly want (or maybe even need) is to love a woman who can be respected.
Her uterus is a keg? LOL The stepford wife is more the sexist image because fembots are like sexy but can kill you like in the terminator series(which is kinda cool).
Men and boys have to deal with male gender stereotypes like the success object or being masculine/animal/machine-like or casanovas in order to attract or get respect.
Fantasies can be seductive and exciting but also can be damaging to the reasonable needs and perception of other gender.
Sheesh, I think fembots should be real. If all a guy wants is control, let him have a stupid hunk of metal. He doesn't deserve a real relationship with a thinking, feeling human being.
In that case, it would be like a test; separating the men who want the toys from those who actually want to commit with a real relationship with actually living, thinking and feeling women. Its a theory to think off but I'm kinda scared to see the results...:P
