I did 3 hill sprints yesterday at a local ski resort. Distance was .22 miles and elevation gain was 223 feet. Very good workout in short amount of time
I am not form expert but is Anton's upper body more upright- the other runner looks bent forward at the waist. Also, not sure exactly what it is, but around 3:08 Anton "looks lighter" on his feet
Whoever says running on a treadmill isn't running doesn't know what they are talking about. Many Olympic and world class athletes train on the treadmill. Some almost exclusively. Good treadmills will go up and downhill. Can change the firmness of the impact to save your legs. Treadmill running can greatly enhance your pacing and muscle memory. Many, many benefits to treadmill running. Any advanced level runner will tell you that.
@dean2663 I hate the treadmill...not cuz it's not real running though...you're right. Treadmill running is great for training cuz it's harder than running outside.
@i3e4zt when the weather is bad and im forced to use the treadmill i put the incline up. menshealth magazine said that the closest reality of road runnin is incline of 1 - 1.5.
although i agree with your comment i still run faster on the road and much more consistantly. maybe its the fact u are actually going somewhere and you get breeze.
@cherrybopbop Yes! 6:00 pace on a treadmill seems like 5:30 on the road. The sense of accomplishment and the airflow from outdoor running helps as well. My longest treadmill run was 13 miles and it seemed more like 18. No programs on mine, so I'm at the mercy of whatever speed or incline I set it at. Never use it in spring or summer, but nice to run in shorts when it's 10 below, windy and snowing in January...
@i3e4zt Is this the voice of experience? I've done many trail and road races and without exception there have been downhill portions in all of those events. My treadmill has no downhill setting, only 0-15% grade. A treadmill will not slow itself down if you are tired. I have no idea where you came up with "60% of the effort." Granted, a treadmill doesn't have variations in terrain, but you can max the incline and run until you drop. To say it's not running is nonsense.
@lgunited23 I'm exactly the same. I can run pace at 6:30 mile as well, sometimes looking at my gps and seein consistant 6:00. yet on a treadmill it feels more like a tempo run. kinda throws me on a mental downfall on the whole workout.
@tdrchainsaw i could not run this fast, but on the machine your body stays at the same altittude so its a bit different from running uphill at 15% or am i wrong?
I run 6 miles in the treadmill feels so boring, outside I run 14-17 miles with fun and pleasure

every runner nows this, running on a treadmill isnt really running.... you do only like 60% of the effort that you would do when running on trail...
one again, running on treadmill isnt really running.

i hate running on treadmills.. i just cant do it.
i can run a 5 minute mile on the track, but a 6:30 mile feels real fast on a treadmill, and theres no breeze which makes you sweat a lot more

I heard running uphill is easier on the joints though, is it just tough on the Achilles or what?

of course they are neck and neck, they are on tread mills.

Pain. The most I have ran uphill is 1mile, and I got 9:42.

to anybody that runs, i bet that looked painful and pretty fast.

@XXDoctorKnowXX
agreed. I do 15 incline at 6.0 and feel like death in less than 2 minutes.
TheGreatAristo 11 months ago 4
@XXDoctorKnowXX
hey i run real uphills and i can say it has nothing to
do with real uphills ...the treadmill its ok but compare with
the road its really easy...try going uphill for 30 minutes on the road
and you ll feel real gravity ....treadmills have no gravity...
thealkimista2012 3 months ago
@thealkimista2012 There is gravity everywhere.
