and also during Ottoman empire our Sultans were so dangler.from all of the world we have grandmoms.Anyway so many year greek and turks lived together this is very normal to influence each other.(but greek generally cheating everythinggg:)
Someone told me it was called "bozuk" (=broken, not bad) because of the permanent position of the frets - they cannot be moved to fit different modes (makams/dromoi).
I heard the the pasha at the time the bouzouki was created said the sound was "bouzouk" which from I know in turkish means, that it sounded bad...can any one answer that for me?? I play bouzouki and it is a nice fact to know
i am a spanish musician...We christians should not deny the arabian, turkish and persian influence on the european culture. We learnt a lot from them(in science, architecture, music, kitchen etc.). You know spanish guitar comes from arabs and greek bouziki comes from turks :-)
Sellos23 my friend what u are saying is true, I totally agree. I am also a white Turks, md dads side from Kavala, Greece and mother from Crete. Definetly there is a Greek origin in my family also since my great grandmother spoke Greek as my dad tells me. It is great that we also know our true roots:)
Lots of turks dont know what their grandparents I dont know what the Ottoman Empire did but what the heck. In Turkey I see people with goog eyes and I dont have them that aint no coincedencs. Ow During the Ottoman period lots of Greeks where moved into Turkey. I am from Anatolia =D
I'd just like to add that one of the things Katerina was trying to do with this CD and concert was bring Turks and Greeks together, so please don't use it as a reason to fight.
Well, yes, but the composer is Greek and the singer is, too. The musicians are all Turkish except for the guy playing kemençe and the woman playing the daf (big bendir) - she's the composer.
Byzantium was the source of this lovely music, Ottomans came quite later...

Actually, the composer says she based the music on both Byzantine and Ottoman pieces.

bouzouki doesnt come from the turks, only the name is of turkish origin, not the instrument.

Why do you say that, tsisgaros? Where does it come from, and how do you know? I'm not necessarily disagreeing - I'm just curious.

And today's Greek music was *heavily* influenced by Turkish music in turn. Can we stop this discussion or move it somewhere else please?
kafetzou 5 years ago
