They say that C.N.R. was quite insecure and never felt he accomplished much. I wish that I could tell him how much joy he brought me- and everyone I know- for so many years. To garner such genuine affection from total strangers is no small achievement.

It's so neat to see Marcia Wallace sitting there. She does the voice of Edna Krabappel on the Simpsons. I'm sure most people know that, but she also used to be a receptionist on the Bob Newhart show. :)
I grew up on this brilliantly goofy & funny show but don't recall ever seeing this segment. Gene IS tired and gets right on top of Charles to DO THIS!
Our beloved Mr. Reilly does a great job here; his friendly teasing of the panel is terrific. I LOVE Gene's coaching of Charles when he says "Don't indicate...".
.....and hard-core Marcia seems truly pissed about the situation; she is in NO mood to play and is VERY aggressive!
Really Gene should get more than just 2.5 stars , but he wins my heart . Because I have admired him ever since I were a child ,and I watched Gene Rayburn on the NBC's Original Match Game. I will always LOVE Gene Rayburn ,and I believe he was just tired for being up all night . Really Gene just rebuked Charles for get too smart mouth with him ,and Gene made him host part of the show .

CHarles is definately not someone who is that great of a host. He looks like he has payed attention to what Gene has been doing for the 7 years; it happens when you pick on Gene. Charles didn't seem to interact well with the panel but he did have his moments when he wanted to replace some of them and kiss Miss Gabor's ring; she was nervous since she was beaten and robbed of one once. Charles needed more practice before doing this hosting; Gene does it BOOM BOOM. He gets 2.5 stars for trying.
To be fair I thought he was passable for someone who got put on the spot. No prep time. Granted he wasnt his usual flamboyant self, and there WAS notable awkwardness. But he still managed to pull off the job with some degree of competency.

Unfortunately, immediately after the taping of this show, McClean Stevenson was drafted into the United States Army Medical Corps as a surgeon. Despite having no medical education whatsoever, Stevenson operated on more than 10,000 wounded soldiers, at least three of whom survived. 1n 1979, the US Government discovered its mistake and propmptly had Stevenson arrested for impersonating an Army officer. Upon his release, Stevenson formed a punk rock band called Klinger, which enjoyed no success.
