Funny I was looking for how to make padek but came across this. I made myself some Tom mak houng verrry spicy I under estimate the lil guy boy I was wrong. i know how you feel it sucks not to have everything prep when cooking. @Kingcredible Noticed that alot of you-tube how to make Lao papaya salad, the cook always avoid using pickled mudfish sauce, an actual authentic ingredients in traditional papaya salad. It just seem that today. Other ingredient in Lao papaya salad is dried shrimp or pickled crab, but you don't see it them in the how-to video. Ppl wants to show other ppl Lao food but they always bastardized the version. I know that there's not right/wrong way., but stay true to the heart of the ingredients.

@laothai44 i know i know. Trust me, this was all learned from my mom. but being where I was at, there was certain things I couldn't order in the mail and there was a lot of items i couldnt get out in town (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan). I was there for a year, there was so much Lao food I didn't eat haha.

no offense dude you forgot the crab paste and that is way too much tomatoes in this papaya. Then you forgot the bah dak. When your cutting those lemons dude use a real knife you have all those muscles be a man and use a knife.

@hellokitty01ify i lived in Kyrgyzstan at that time. crab paste and padak is no where to be found. i was lucky enough to recieve the papaya in the mail since i get mail 2 weeks after i order it. and that was the sharpest thing in that kitchen at that time. the tomatoes make it taste good, that's all it matters, but people have their own preference so it's all good. i like mine with a lot of tomatoes.
