that was nothing,I was at GFAFB,ND & heard one fly over just after take off & everybody stopped what they were doing at the time because the C-5 sounded like it was ripping the sky in two it was so loud & powerful & you could smell all of the jet fuel fumes over the entire base.

@88Mobius We have them here at Dover AFB.....I worked on them myself (jet engine mechanic on the TF-39)....it's crazy how quiet they are with those new engines let me tell you...plus they can lift more and get better mileage...just glad we can still hear the A's and B's around here though.

What a wonderful aircraft! I watch in awe at them about 4 miles from my home that are flown by the 167th (WV)) ANG pilots. Last USAF plane I was on was a C-141 from Clark AB, PI to Yokada AB, Japan in 1969. That was also a great palne it its time.

By far the sexiest aircraft ever built. Watching one take-off, in person, is a wonderous sight to behold. Despite the powerful "Whaahm" sound, it seems as if they are barely moving, and then they just begin to float upward. A truely awesome plane!

Wow, this brings back a lot of memories. I was an 18 year old Army recruit at Fort Eustis, VA. We were all awakened at 2:00 AM and told we were at war and nothing else. We were trucked to Langley AFB and loaded onto a C5 Galaxy. I had never flown before that and seeing this big ass plane scared the shit out of me! That was 30 years ago and seeing this video brought it all back! Thanks!

Lived on Hickham AFB 1968-1973. There would be 20+ C5A's lined up on the perimeter having maintenance done on their engines..at night. After living on base for 2 weeks...never heard the noise again...just got used to it.

It looks like that C-5 had a C-17 in front of it. The C-17 is awesome, but I just have a love and deep appreciate for that ol' C-5 Galaxy and always will. It has such a unique sound upon both takeoff and landing. Cool video!
