Talent like that is rare nowadays!

  • I took one listen and this is by far the most smokin fiddle playin I've ever heard. Wish I was alive when these guys were playin out, I was born late :( Thank god recordings are forever!

  • this is such pure and joyful music! Makes me proud to be American!

I wish that today's music had this same purity and joy in it!

  • Okay who the hell hit dis-like twice?

  • My great uncle scruggs wrote orange blossom special before johhny cash stole it and made it famous

  • @BigBuckDown211 - Sorry, but Evin T. Rouse wrote the Orange Blossom Special in 1938 and first recorded it with his brother Gordon, in 1939.

  • I have this song on my LP, "Hear The Whistles Blow: Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs Sing Songs of Rivers and Rails. This has to be one of my favorite versions of this song.

  • Most bluegrass festivals have a rule where contestants cannot play either "Orange Blossom Special" or "Duelling Banjos" because both are such crowd favorites it starts fights over whose was best.

  • Paul Warren was the great fiddler on this track. Greatest counry fiddler ever. God rest his soul.

  • GO TELL THE SPARTANS!

  • You have to play it meloic to get all the notes on the banjo Earl doesn't do that. It is played on the fiddle here But you must not have heard Carl Jackson or any of the banjo picker's play this song. So you don't know .Hell yes it would have been great to hear Earl (whom I love by the way even played live on their TV show out of W.VA with them. play this song..

  • My heart is so happy right now!! YEAH!! t:)

  • Dear trailertaskforce: I have been to Sparta many times! My grandparents lived there many years. My grandfather was Dr. CB Roberts, a country doctor who made housecalls. They lived on Bockman Way. Two famous Spartans: Lester and my grandfather.

  • We live Lester Flatt here in his home town of Sparta Tennessee!

  • ricky skaggs takes over watseka illinois on friday aug 26, 2011

  • YOU MAY NOT BELIEVE THIS but Earl CAN"T play this song this fast .You may have noticed he didn't play it either.Rest my case..

  • @MrLongtimegone It is a fiddle tune, so why should he play it, except for a little background rhythm?

  • 1 person is a unAmerican moron

  • That just about gave ma a heart attack.

  • This was the theme song for Dempsey Hovlands World Famous professional basketball team.Women played against men 1949-1977 and won 80 % of games. My dad owned the team , my mom played. contact me at erinhovland@yahoo.com

  • ..and after hearing this the Devil set his fiddle on fire and went home in shame!

  • @xnihpseht You know thats right!!!

  • I'd give anything to be able to play like that.

  • Tight! You can feel the rhythm of the rails and hear the engines chugging, even the bells. Creative masterpiece played by virtuosos. Thanks for sharing.

  • 1 person must have hit the wrong button. Earl types much better than you.

  • Charlie Daniels Band does a great one also, both great though

  • my god this is fast!

  • That is the absolute BEST version of the Orange Blossom Special I have ever heard ... It has always been one of my favorites. Nobody played bluegrass like Flatt & Scruggs. I believe they were the tightest band ever. Just perfect!! Thanx for posting ...

  • @olehoundog1: Thanks for the comment... I finally found a great recording at the Appalachian Archives at ETSU. but appreciate your comment... I will have to find that boxed set.. :-)

  • AWESOME!!

  • THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER FIDDLER LIKE PAUL WARREN

  • Five stars - the real deal!

  • Hi.... This is great .. can you tell me what album this came off of or if you know where I can download the song itself.. Thanks

  • @Numbknuts48 This is off the album "Songs of Rivers and Rails" and is included in Box set #3 from Bear Family called " 1964 Plus".

  • The masters, the virtuosi-nobody does it better!

  • Love it!

  • Doesnt get any cleaner than this Paul Warren version. Fantastic. The group doesnt gunk up this timeless treasure w/hoopala or theatrics, just pure 100% product. No extras. Magical performance. I doubt any of them could even read music. Doesnt matter. Atcs like this are, unfortunately, gone forever. The pureest form of bluegrass, strings only and no electrified instruments.

  • Is that Paul Warren?

  • Magic
