Hey everyone, Sorry I haven't answered any of the questions that were posted here. I created this account on a whim and then misplaced the username and password, which has just been found. So, I'll try and address whatever questions that have come in and I'll try and record some "worthwhile activity" on at least one of my scanners to post here. Meanwhile, happy listening.
@stepheninva I was hoping to hear some positive things on this radio I'm driving up to scanner master this weekend(and to bass proshop) to pick one up... sadly i'll have to use the telescoping antenna but it's what i have to use for the time being
Nice setup! I just got the TrunkTracker III, but have no idea how to program it. What is the benefit of this scanner over my regular handheld 100 channel analog one if I just want to program a few frequencies? The only drawback I see with my scanner is I don't like the speaker on the bottom, but I saw that you have external speakers. Smart move.
How in the heck do you program this darn thing to just pick up your local pd and sheriffs depts and nothing else? I cant figure this thing out! I have the smaller 100 channel scanners and those are no problem. Where or whom can do this for me, any suggestions???
What antenna are you using, indoor or out door, also what coaxial cable. Very good quality audio on your units. thats how a scanner suppose to sound , not all noise
@damhaugandreas Go to Radio Reference and look up this area OR if you have an iPhone, the aps there are great. I'm able to listen to my area (a lot of what I get on my scanners) right over my phone!!
Another Local person too me.. Saratoga County NY ? Have you tried listening to the new p25 system yet ? Im thinking about getting the 996xt.. thoughts ?
I just bought a 996xt and am waiting for it to get here this coming week. I already have a GRE model PSR-600 but have wanted a 996 since they first came out. Normally I would have just bought another matching PSR-600 but I really wanted to try a 996xt because I LOVE the display on this model :)
Just bought the BCD996XT and cant figure out how to program it. I have the ARC XT Pro software but cant get the the unit recognized using my computer and the PC cable with the usb to rs-232 add on
On the third line of the displays it shows NFM - on my 15x it shows the freq. is this something you can change on the 996xt or is that just how it is?
Well, they're nice but not worth killing for! :) Make sure yu get the programming soft ware, it REALLY helps when programming digital trunk systems. Also, when you get yours, make sure you do the mod to improve your P25 RX. Hold down the HOLD/RESUME button on the lower right while turning on the radio, the screen will go through all its colors, then go to menue, go to settings, you'll see a few options you didnt see before, go to P25 Adjust level, and change the number (25 by default) to 160.
@k9jus Hi, and yes, I do use external speakers though these radios do have great audio. I use external speakers because I like to be able to make them really loud when I'm walking around the house. Thats of course when my wife isnt home! :) Though I think my dog wishes I'd have a quieter hobby!

What is the main difference between them?
that we recommend?
can be controlled via PC?
dragygo 6 months ago
@dragygo Best enjoyed when controled via PC. The 996 is digital (P25) whereas the 15 is an analog only radio.
