  • Nielson playing the straight man before that delinquent James Dean showed up then everybody had to be Cool.

  • They were off my 100 years on landing on the moon. They are also wrong on going faster than the speed of light. E=MC2 is the reason you can't go faster than light.

  • This is one of the old time great classic movies that came out just a short time after I was born.

  • This movie was a perfect precursor to the tv series STAR TREK

  • Good movie, reminds me of Sphere actually!

  • Robbie was unable to fire the weapon per the first law

    1) A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

  • The original Laws:

    1) A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

    2) A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

    3) A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws

  • Robbie's "built-in safety factor" mentioned @17:40 is most likely Asimov's 3Laws of Robotics which were first revealed in 1942.

  • What a great movie. This is how they were meant to be made. Great story. Great actors. Big budget. Robbie the robot was worth the admission price. When hollywood finally turned it's big guns on s.f.,they did it right!

  • I just noticed they must be Navy people only Sailors and Marines talk sailor slang like this Aye Aye sir. Cool.

  • This is a cool old movie and it looks like the same movie that showed on the horror flick Halloween 1978. I remember watching and wished that i was there to see the whole movie it looked cool. Wow thanks for uploading it Time0Travel.

  • top cult classic with awesome actor Leslie Nielsen ....... oooo what a treat thanks Time0Travel (^:^)

  • Wish they would make a remake of this! It's been nearly 60 years!

  • Forbidden Planet is the best science fiction movie ever.

  • @JimColyer

You are a very wise person.

  • to cool ! GREAT MOVIE THANKS!!!

  • My Brother is made of adamantine steel!

  • Not just one of the great sci/fi's of the 50s but all time.I love Forbidden Planet!

  • @felinenine69 I agree.

  • this movie is one of the best from its time -i would love to see a remake

  • I have the rather strange idea that Gene Roddenberry got his idea for Star-trek from this film.

The full cast members are here The Captain, Doctor, Executive Officer, Engineering. Room for a court case for copyright.

  • Ahh, I miss when movies did not rely on animation...

  • hope some day people will travel in space in the future like this...with ease. lol

  • Best sci fi movie of the 50s.

  • GREAT MOVIE! ROBBY SHOULD HAVE WON AN OSCAR!

  • This probably the only sci fi movie that I like from the 50s because it's not stupid and campy. For example the bridge set is actually practical, like the nav system.

  • You can watch "Not of this Earth" here on you tube. I'd probably go that way first to see if you like it. Look for FILME COMPLETO- WATCH NOT OF THIS EARTH 1957, tell me what you think.

  • This movie perfetly describes the ruff beast(Yeats "Second Comming") that sluffed off to Israel to be born. It's the collective hatred of the Jews that is now comming to full force.

  • Comment removed

  • i wonder what one of the uniforms their wearing in this would be worth at auction in 2012.

  • My favorite classic sci fi, thanks very much for posting it.

  • Still holds up. The invisibility of the monster and the build-up of dramatic tension and dread make it an all-time sci-fi/horror gold standard. Only Alien 1 even comes close.

  • Im sure this movie"launched" many careers

  • Super advance civilizations would never stick just to the base ten. One of our ancient civilizations used base 64. That is what is needed for space calculations.

  • Is that homeboy from The Naked Gun?

  • Best film soundtrack ever!

  • The best science fiction movie ever. It was ahead of its' time for special effects. I mean 1956 was along time ago.

  • @rexowens1000 Best Sci Fi Movie of all time-way ahead of its time-a clean digitized color copy would be awesome. Great sound track, cast (Walter Pigeon, Leslie Neilson, Anne Francis) and of course, Robby the Robot.

Anne Francis and Elizabeth Montgomery were the two hottest women on TV in the early sixties-and maybe of all time.

  • @rexowens1000 it was a cool movie.so was"This Island Earth"check it out.

  • @nomiclas Hi nomiclas, yes, This Island Earth was another good one from the 50's. Also, Not of this Earth 1957, directed by 31 y/o Roger Corman is another you'd like it's B&W and slightly grainy but non the less a great plot!. Have you noticed how today's movie makers often do remakes of 50's sci-fi films?

  • @rexowens1000 where can i find "Not of this Earth?some modern movies are more based on the spectacular effects than reasonable plot.i did however like "Nightmare on Elm Street"it just kept you wondering where the real world was.Alien was a really good suspence Sci-Fi Star Wars was good too.the remake of"Invasion of the Body Snatchers"was way better in 1956 than the redo.i didn't sleep good for months when i saw that.i just love Sci-Fi!

  • great sound effects

  • I saw this movie when it first came out, I was 9 yrs. old and I was awed by the special effects in the movie. It is still considered ahead of it's time for the plot and special effects.

  • Michael193406 thanks for your input and I couldn't agree more!

  • Independence Day was not that bad -- good comedy good villians--until it got to the part where a crop duster learned how to fly the most advanced U.S. bomber in no time flat. Was not believable. They should have worked on that part a little more. Otherwise I thought--not bad.

  • @Michael93406 I too love Independence Day, so much it is in my collection, but there was a lot more wrong than the crop-duster cum fighter pilot issue you cited. Even if you just used the "unbelievability scale" you could easily find dozens of things wrong with ID4. It's a good movie, but Forbidden Plant, despite time, is a greater film.

  • The Day The Earth Stool Still is considered by most sci-fi buffs to be the best sci fi film ever made. In 1980 I saw it (a 1951 b & w film) in the theather to a standing room only crowd. It was dead silent at the end when Klatuu gave his speech. The scene where Klatuu meets Professor Basrnhard is dynamite. Leonard Maltin is a moron for the way he reviewed Day. Every other critic gives it 4 stars and that ahs been true for over 50 yerars. Forbidden Planet is up there for sure. Top notch.

  • This is as good as when the earth stood still the original one both superb movies!

  • just another movie that's better than independence day.

  • this is a nice, sensible 50s sci-fi.

  • We watched this movie in Eng Lit because it's loosely based off of Shakespeare's The Tempest.

  • I keep expecting Leslie Nielsen to do something wacky.

  • The scene where they explore the wonders of the Krell stands as one of the greatest scenes ever filmed in sci fi.

  • You are only partially right Plwwp. Walter Pidgeon, Earl Holliman, a serious Leslie Nielson, Robby the Robot (the forerunner of the robot on Lost in Space), The Krell who can create by mere thought, and Anne (Honey West) Francis as the female lead in a space age mini skirt. Wow man. This movie is not better than some of the shit in 2012. It is a classic sci fi film made as art to last forever. It is better than all of the shit in 2012.

  • fot this being a 1957 film its still better than some of the shit we get in 2012

  • Enjoyed this quite a lot. Thanks.

  • 38: 28 Giving himself an oil job?!!

  • Classic

  • Before Star Wars came Star Trek, but before both of them came Forbidden Planet. BTW .3896 of light speed is still 724.64 miles per second.

  • @Puzzoozoo posted, ".3896 of light speed is still 724.64 miles per second."

    186,274 mps * .3896 = 72,572.3504 mps

  • @IMJW1000 United Planets cruiser C57D has slowed down to sublight speed, so .3896 is a *percentage* of light speed, as the green glow effect on the crew probably was when the ship went under the c barrier.

  • awesome , hav tooo see this xDD

  • Timeless movie

  • monsters from the id! theyre everywhere now because few have heeded this warning

  • LESLIE NIELSEN!!

  • I remember watching this movie in NYC Jan 3, 1957. I was waiting for a train transfer at Grand Central on my way to Parris Island Marine Corps boot camp. Unforgetable movie...

  • @wesseavey Thanks for sharing this with us. Some movies mark epochs in our lives, don't they?

  • the part at 1:00:20 inside the huge complex...this was totally awesome seeing it on the big screen in a movie theater. I got to see it some years ago here in Los Angeles.

  • some years ago there was a showing at a theater here in los angeles, it was really awesome seeing this on the big screen. Much better than watching it here.

  • The birth of Star Trek.

  • @mpjgbx More like pre Star Trek.

  • OMG !! Pure gold !!

  • I now believe in God, except he is called Time0Travel now...

  • nice! thanks for putting this up, haven't seen this movie in years.

  • Love it when the id monster takes shape in the electric field--the energy monster that would later appear in Jonny Quest always reminded me of the monster here.

  • @radioclash81 I too have always thought of that Johnny Quest monster too when I saw this!

  • Time0Travel, you are the man!

  • hell yes!!!!! one of my fave films ever, thanks for uploading!

  • I love it !! Thanks man 4 the upload .

  • I saw it in July 1969 during Italian TV report on Apollo 11...What a great night !!

  • This is the most excellent classic science fiction movie of all time and thank you for posting it in full format :-)

  • Great film, but when I saw Leslie Nielsen, I thought "Surely, you can't be serious!"

  • @UFOJockey Who is Surely? ジ

  • Fantastic super classic
