@timthecyclistable No he doesn't. The winner deserves it. Cav may not be everyone's cup of tea but the sky is the limit for him. TDF stages and sprinters classics are always at his mercy if he gets it right. He is a superstar.
you have to feel for the guy that lost as in his mind he clearly thought he had this race in the bag, but of course with someone like Cavendish hunting you down...........and to lose by such a small margin after such a huge lead well I would be gutted as I am sure he was. I am looking forward to this years 2011 TDF to see if Cavendish can again take the last stage of the race.
the green jersey should be for a pure sprinter. cav has been the first man to finish le tour two years running. double points for the champs elysees victor.
to be fair haussler didnt try and go for himself. He sprinted to give a leado out for Thor. If haussler had known that thor couldnt follow and would have waited then I think we would have won the milan- san remo
Cav is brill but the wierd thing is that all the british vids of Cav are of his bloopers so most cycling lovers live on the continent. Some people say there are very few fam,ous people from belgium who r famous but we need to look no further than Tom Boonen and Wouter Weylandt but neither of them r better than the one..... the only...... and im no expert but i dont know why people give cavendish sht as a cyclist - hes a pure sprinter and doesnt pretend to be anything else - the fact is that he puts enough effort into other aread to win stages that arent necessarily meant for sprinters - like the milan - san remo or stage 19 of the tour de france. but he can become the greatest ever sprinter and win the most green jerseys. hes one of the best prospects in cycling
Haussler had that mess. He didn't think he was going to be in that position. He was trying to pull Thor Hushovd to set up his sprint. If Haussler would have waited 5 sec before he jumped instead of pulling Thor, he would have had it. GO CERVELO!
best vid of the milan san remo this year stuck to the important part. that overhead shot is just amazing.
oh and Cav is a sprinter and will always be a sprinter. asking him to try and win a big tour is like asking Usain Bolt to win the 5000 metres. it ain't gonna happen.
roadbikerob saying cavendish will win a big tour HAAHHAHAHAHAH ROFL AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA! Learn about cyclism ty. Rofl omg a sprinter winning Tour de France, ye of course HAHAH.
Look at wiggins, he can now climb with the best of them.
If cavendish works on his climbing alot and loses some weight, tried harder in the TT's, has a good TTT, a good team and wins a few stages with time bonus', course he could do it.
wiggins have always had the potensial of a good climber, but in credit agricole he wasn't allowed to ride for his own chances.
Cavendish can not win a 3-week tour. Just as possible as I'm winning the olympics in synchronized swimming alone (!). Cav weights only 69 kg, so i don't think he could loose som weight, and he don't have the ability to keep up the pace over 4-50km. He is an explosive sprinter!
cavendish will one day win a big tour. At the moment Contador and Lephimer are too strong but if his climbing improves he will be the best ever British cyclist.
This is sort of true. However cavendish can win time trials as well as the sprint stages. I can except your point but Cavendish can only improve on his climbing, he can't get any worse!
cav can't win any time-trials. He do not have the same stamina and pace over time as cancellara, contador, rogers++, but he can possibly win a prolouge (ca. 6-7km). And last, cavendish is a terrible climber and will always be.
Ha ha ha! People said the same thing of Armstrong when he was 24. Cavendish a terrible climber? He did just fine over the Poggio in this race, and just fine over the last climb of stage 19 in the tour. Give him some credit. Yes, at the moment he has the best team out of any sprinter, but riders develop over time. Just look at Stuart O'Grady or Thor Hoshovd. I think Cav will win some more big classics in his time.
thats right, but armstrong had a much shorter way to go. He was already a good classics-rider and a deasent climber, so he definetly had the potensial. same thing about thor and o'grady. powerfull and heavy sprinters like them are often good at cobblestones and short hills, and with a little training they can get some good results, but the way from a VERY explosive sprinter to a great climber is much longer, and it also depends on how your muscles are build up: explosive or endurance (t I, IIx)
Well, yes. I'm not saying that he's ever likely to win the Flèche Wallonne, but anyone suggesting he's not a decent climber seriously needs to look at his results. Boonen for one was left eating humble pie at Milan-San Remo, and I think Freire will be in a despondent mood following this tour.
You need to eat your own words simenrogne. Cav won the Tour de Romandie prologue time trial last year. Obviously, as he says himself, he's simply an old school sprinter but get your facts straight or no one will listen to anything you say.
big difference between time-trial and prologue. The prologue in 2008 tour de romandie was only 1.9km. Almost every sprinters are good prologue riders, because time-trial technique doesn't have as much to say as raw power. Actually, look at the results on that prologue in romandie, daniele bennati from liquigas was second (not exactly a time-trial specialist or what?) on the time-trial on stage 3 he was behind by far. Last, i did say that he could win a prologue.. I see no need in eating my words
Haussler was not even supposed to be there he lead out Thor Hushovd... I think it was awesome to see Haussler going for it. On that same token Mark is the man.
Great video...the emotion of the moment is captured in the words of this song. Well done! Love watching Cavendish make his mad dash to the line. Also u can see how unexpected it was for him to pull this one off in his first attempt.
The swerve didnt hurt him, it helped him becuase it made cavendish have to swerve as well just to get in Haussler's slip stream. Staying straight would have actually allowed Cavendish to catch up easier because he would have had a constant slipstream to draft off of.
What are you talking about - there are 298Km to this race, everyone follows wheels during the race, the best is the first over the line - that's not wheel-sucking , that' sprinting!
