First of all Vinnie wasn't a striker, he was a midfielder. Second of all he scored a total of 35 goals during his career which is about average. Sure he's not a ryan giggs or other better known midfielders, but honestly I doubt he would be very succesful in the modern day football. His prime was in the early 90's meaning and since that time football has become a much faster game as well as having become much more technical. But for the 90's he was a perfect fit

In central midfield? Not very likely. A Central Midfielder is generally a playmaker that is just between the Attacking and the defending midfielders. His job was to send the ball further up the pitch to the attackers. Active players that have the same spot as him would be Xabi Alonso, Andrea Pirlo, Daniele De Rossi and Xavi. Now just check out the amount of goals they've scored in their careers and you'll notice that Vinnie actually scored just as many goals as they did.
