  • Had a chance to see him here in Milwaukee at The Northern Light Theater. I was only 8 years old when we got our first 45 record, my father brought it, it was," He Will Break Your Heart' we only had the one record for about two weeks,we played that record everyday. All the children the younger ones and older knew every single word to the song. Hearing this song made me miss those days of us growing up at home with our parents.

  • years ago, I often wondered the same thing, what would it be like to have Jerry Butler to sing this song for me, I can only imagine, I played this song everyday for 3 or 4 years, and still love it as much as I always did, and I will always love " the Iceman"! Dance with me Jerry!

  • This is truly amazing to hear such a fabulous singer who can still sing this "Beautiful Song" after almost 50 years of its original recording. Truly amazing "The Ice Man" is still great.

I will never forget when he came to sing at Tarrytown Mall, Rocky Mount, North Carolina a long time ago.

    Long Live "Jerry Butler"

    Sport67

  • how would it be to spend just one night with that special someone in a fancy New York restaurant and have Jerry sing for you all night. Magical.

  • This is music that a Disc Jockey in Philadelphia named Jimmy Bishop used to say would "make your liver quiver".

  • First time i heard this song i heard it in the movie "American Me"

    Oldies are forever!

  • For about two years solid I played nothing but Sam Cooke and Jerry Butler.

    Superb.

  • They had it right all along! The Iceman!

  • @57hms19

I totally agree!! The Iceman Cometh!!

  • CHILLS

  • everytime i hear this mans voice , its strange that i feel my father in my spirit.

  • definitely in my top 5 favorite songs of all time. there will never be music like this again. somewhere along the line people have lost the true meaning music. i know im 17 and dont know to much, but i know good music and the 60s and 70s will always be the best years of music. they had so much passion in there songs. you the "iceman" jerry butler. LOVE YOUR MUSIC

  • He was unbeleivably amazing in the 50's and this was in 2007? He can still do it, can't he!! Thank you for sharing what I believe is the most beautiful, soulful love song ever sung.

  • He is just wonderful. Thank you for posting this.

  • He sings this song from his heart then he goes into the poise of a preacher by putting his hands in his pocket then he seems to just speak it out from . Love you Jerry. And by the way I need to give the drummer some as the God Father of soul would say.

  • this song has moved me for so many many years. I can close my eye's and feel all the possibilites in my heart come to fruition.

  • I start laughing when I see all of these praises when it comes to this man because he's my uncle and you have no idea how goofy he is with the family. There isnt much of a cool bone in his body when his family is concerned. I respect all of your comments though, its nice to know he is still in your heart.

  • If he really is your uncle, tell him he was responsible for my eldest son! My wife (girlfriend then) just couldn't resist when I played Ice on Ice and the Ice Man cometh. But that was 40 years ago and we're still playing those albums

  • In conversation, he said that couples were having babies to the theme of the 3 Stooges' music, let alone, his music but he thanks you just the same. Coming from me, I told you he was goofy.

  • @vybe You family and Lord knows you know. Thanks for sharing with us, his fans, about the other side of Jerry Butler. He is truly an artist--thank you, Darling, so very much!

  • This is the song I want to sing the day that I get married. I just love this song and THE ICEMAN knows how to put his heart, soul and emoitions into this song.

  • this song is for my husband for life.

  • The all time classic!!!!!! Mr. Butler, you're awesome.Luv U!!!!

  • STUNNING!

If ever a man lived up to his nickname...So cool, so smooth...yet, you could drown in the warmth of his soulful voice. A rare and precious beauty, indeed. Jerry is the epitome of Soul.

  • bobbilse, you have described the "Ice Man" Jerry Butler, taking the words right out of my mouth. All I could add is that it is amazing to me that he still has that cool demeanor and the best voice in soul!

  • Perfect description - he is singing from his heart and his personal experience- so much better.

  • cant bet the old songs...

  • this is a great song

  • This is a man giving his everything for a woman. But the sad thing is that it doesnt mean they will love you back. Im living proof.

  • A classic!! One of the best love songs ever. Back when music was music.

  • why dont they make music like this anymore????? why?

  • @dashdog23 seriously this is some of the best music ever.... they need to start.

  • @dashdog23 because alot of men today dont have the guts to tell nor show their women how they fell.

  • @dashdog23 they cant..it takes real talent to do this

  • In the late 60s Jerry Butler would play The Beach Club in Myrtle Beach..Between sets he would come out and mingle with his fans. He was and is one of my all time favorites and to tell you the truth, nobody even compares to his style and delivery....One of a kind and a real entertainer...Thanks for posting!

  • I wish I could see him in concert. I highly doubt he would make his way to Canada. He has a "VELVET VOICE." And he is very charming too. May God Bless him always!

    Diane :)

  • Mr. Jerry Butler, Fifty years a voice that has stood the test of time!

I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Butler on last year touring with Mr. Gene Chandler and Mr. Ben E. King, It was truly a remarkable concert, I couldn't believe how great his voice is, just how many 69 years old can still sing like that. I pray the lord continue to bless him with many more years of singing.

  • Sorry that should have said Mr. Lloyd Price. I enjoy the concert so... much that I got the singers mixed up. :)

  • Truly very beautiful words! The world needs more of this.

  • This man, this music is from an era gone forever....I long to hear a man sing from his heart again. Thanks for posting this.

  • Honest to god....i get chills when i hear him sing

  • I dedicated this song to My husband on our wedding day. This was suppose to be one of our slow dance songs, but my mother in law had to stick her nose in and play one of her stupid songs. Sorry but thats is my feelings today. this december 18th my hubby and I will be married 15 years.

  • this was my wedding song ,,,, 19yrs this yrs i have been married , thnaks for this song ,

  • some songs are like fine wine. They get better with age....

  • Even after all these years, his voice didn't change. It's still as powerful and smooth as back then.

    Long Live "The Iceman"!!

  • Ah but to have heard this live circa '58 with Curtis Mayfield's beautiful high tenor.

  • He was 18 years old when he penned this song - can you imagine that?? What a gorgeous melody...and his voice is a thing of beauty, too. Thanks for bothering to capture and share this! Please check out my video of this very song performed live by the Ernie Williams Band in 2006...

  • Lovely. x

  • beautiful selection

he is truly a great singer for all times

    blessings always

  • 101 Joe -- Check out your local PBS line up. There are several "Doo Wop" shows they do all over the country for fundraising, and Jerry Butler is usually the host. I HOPE you've seen him sing "Let It Be Me" with Betty Everett (a little before she passed away). Still brings tears of joy...

  • This song just may be my alltime favorite!

  • jerry butler the master!!!

  • WOW!!! Ive never heard of this guy. I am a white male, 33 years old, and love music like this. This guy is so amazing. I would put him up there with Sam Cook and David Ruffin. Fantastic post.

  • 101AVERAGEJOE, if you liked this song, you might like to check my friend Brownprideroldies posts. He's got all kinds of soul and do-wop tunes uploaded, some from very obscure but talented artists. Also drdoowop has many excellent vids from the same era. Enjoy!

  • Outstanding, thank you. I know people say this all of the time but there is just something missing in today's so called "music".

  • averagejoe, i agree with you 100%...and that "something" that's missin' is LOVE!!! simply b/c it's being replaced with sex, vulgarity, mixed with a whooooooooole lotta profanity!!! that's why sites like youtube and such are a wonderful blessing to us "old-skoolers" who truly value "timeless" lyrics such as these...

  • yea me too

  • Awesome, sends chills down my spine, tnx for posting

  • Cool as Ice!

  • Dedicated to the one and only one ...

  • Yoo-Hoo....I'de give anything............

  • 1958 when he was with The Impressions and did this it became a timeless classic ........ Its my song i want to play when my GF and I get married.......

  • This is real singing and real SOUL! The Ice Man Jerry Butler. Chicago Soul at its best!

  • i love the iceman ,he's from the heart!!

  • Jerry is so cool!!!

  • otid redding has a version of it this is a greast song

  • the iceman...no one does it better...

  • Saw him last night at Cerritos Center. He brought the house down. The man has still got it.

  • Do you by any chance remember the name of the very first song he sang?

  • My friends and I were at the concert too. We stayed at the same hotel that Jerry Butler did. It was my friends birthday and she sent a note to his room to request that he sing "Never Gonna Give You Up" and right in the middle of the song he stopped to sing Happy Birthday to her. How Awesome was that?

  • I remember that. That was awesome. Would've been cool to meet him.

  • this is why we love doo wop, because the performers love us back.

  • I didnt know he was still alive.. thank god, he's a ledgend.(hope spelling ok)?

  • Oh yes! He's also the Comissioner of Cook County (Chicago, IL) and an active member of Prince Hall Masonic Lodge North Star Lodge #1 as a Past Master, and a 33rd Degree Mason, in which I was a part of them prior to becoming a Full Scottish Rite Freemason and leaving the York Rite. He truly is a wonderful brother on and off stage!

  • My favorite song off all time...

  • He is all that. Show these younguns how it should be done.

  • Does it get any better than this? I seriously doubt it. He really is the "iceman". How anyone can listen to this song and HIS interpretaion, AND not be moved, just doesn't have any soul.

  • This is so Grand!

  • this how you talk to a woman hart!!!!!!!!!

  • Bravo!

  • Effortless, seamless, timeless. Where has the singers gone. No one describes love like this anymore. I wish the young cats would pick tis up before the living legends are gone.

  • this man is sooooooo great. Love it sooo... much. Jerry Butler FOREVER...

  • brings tears to my eyes- only the ice man can do this beautiful song justice

  • Great video great sound. I looks as though you are on stage with him.
