I seen the remake. It was a good movie, it had better screen shots and better acting.... so whats the big deal of them remaking it? America Rocks fuck you haters :p
@roberto18giron I agree I think the hollywood version has better avting stil the original is kinda groundbreaking and so a lot of people think hollywood shouldnt have gone that far.
They are remaking it to Americanize it. A lot of Americans wouldn't take the time to watch the entire Swedish version with subtitles. Also, it may not be seen as "scary" enough to the average American. Horror, horror, horror.
This is a very unique quote in these circumstances, for it shows how, from such dark and desperate times, love could rise anyway, no matter how many obstacles are present.
@bettanand, I actually read it, and I know what happened to that poor soul that is Eli, but as I said to others early on, the boy that was Elias died along with his Dignity, and from that loss Eli was born. So, to me at least, who Eli was before becoming what she is, is at this point irrelevant.
Besides, if there can be no real love between Oskar and her, there can be at least a platonic love and strong, if not unbreakable, friendship.
This film is about Oska and Elias little boy who had been castrated. It is a beautiful story - this trailer gives you an idea it will be scary - not really: - it portrays Eli as emotional and fragile - bad hygiene, sleeps in a bath tub and lives with a pedophile. beautiful scenes - for me I knew this film would be special when she kills a victim because he is starving; then breaks the victims neck but cries his heart out on the body because he knew he has to live but has killed an innocent.
The director of this movie took a chance at being original and made a movie that doesn't follow worn out old formulas. He nailed it and should be honored for creating an honest piece of art that really was a thinking person's movie. 5 stars!
I got it from amazon co uk - don't think it had Theatrical Release on it. Don't quote me on that, though. I ordered it a while ago now and I'm starting to get impatient for it! I know for fact it didn't come dubbed cos people complained about it on the review thing.
I have children - it does funny things to my memory. D=
film 1st - The girl whos plays Eli will then give you an image of what Eli should look like - I chose movie then book:- the book filled in the gaps and was beautiful - the movie made me weep the book made me cry when u learn more about Eli.
@MGR1900 I heard he was shocked when they announced that a remake in the works. He said that remakes can only be made if it can be done better if the original failed first time round.
@clashrogers I do have to admit it is strange timing. It's kind of an insult to be making a remake so soon however. Hopefully it will bring more exposure to the original if anything. I'm thinking perhaps that both movies will compliment each other but it sounds like a risky move to make a remake so soon.
Bah I'm American and I can tell you hollywood will fuck this up.
It has too many school age sexual undertones, the atmosphere is different.
They will probably get rid of all of that make it two boys instead of a girl, write off the sexual undertones, and will probably turn the vampire into a raving lunatic like that Damien kid. The original was shit fucking WONDERFUL one of the best vampire movies ever made.
@MGR1900 I didn't notice a single original idea in the movie. Pedophilia and vampire children have often been linked in tons of books. the only thing that is different here is that this guy takes an unusually positive view of pedophilia, and looks at the idea that the "child" might be the one using the adult. I can honestly say it sucks, and that is no pun.
this version is so much better that the american one
no doubt about that!

Why even comparing this great movie and twilight? Edward Cullen is nothing more then a glorified mosquito. That glitters. I rest my case...

What about the author of the book? Surely he's the one who should be getting the honors considering it was his idea in the first place.
n0odles86 2 years ago
Fair enough. Point made. However a really bad director could have taken good material and ruined it. You are correct. The writer deserves credit too!

=)
I ordered the book along with the film. I'm still undecided which to start first.
n0odles86 2 years ago
They supposedly have a better version with improved subtitles. Hopefully you'll be getting the newer one.
When you do watch the movie I recommend watching it in its' original Swedish. The default setting for some reason is the English dub...SKIP IT!
I am considering the book soon!
MGR1900 2 years ago
Yes - I ordered the original Swedish with english Subs. I always prefer english subs in all films I tend to buy.
I think I'll watch the movie first and then read the book! =)
n0odles86 2 years ago
Where did you order it from? Is it the one with the words "Theatrical Release?"
I do know that the book and the move are different. Anyway, it's a great film! Next to Slumdog Millionaire, it's the best film of 2008!
