So last year I had a dilemna to chose between Korean or Japanese as a language I want to take. But due to the fact Korean was easier for me to read (Im black, cuban, chinese and black guyanese... but I am brown skin) so I decide to learn Korean.
But lately i wanted to learn Japanese, my problem however is reading Hiragana & Katakana. i can speak a little. like the basic greetings conversation... but thats it.
I want to learn Japanese now. A year and a half ago I was choosing between Korean and Japanese to go learn at night school and chose Korean because I already knew the alphabets. I'm a level 2 in Korean out of the 4 but it's going to be my last year because I'm going to college in Barrie.
But now I want to learn Japanese and have the chance to go up there and do a full year study abroad after a year or 2 in barrie. My problem is reading Japanese, I know a few basics to talk but reading not so
>>>>> GREAT VIDEO!!!! I'm an Asian Man and I think it's great to study abroad. I never had the chance yet, but I've traveled to Europe a few months ago backpacking. Definitely recommended but you have to be really open-minded and willing to learn and adapt. What inspired you to travel abroad??? Keep up the Hard work!!! :) Hope you get a chance to check out some of my vids. :)
I will make a video about this, but basically I have a had a long-standing interest in Japan! I wish I could go to Europe...That will be my next stop!
@SaitamaFlowers That's great!!! There should be some pics on my page of Europe if you want to check out some of the sites. I want to go to Japan soon tho. :) Any recommendations???
Im trying to get to Japan using my computer science major. I cant find any programs for cheap for some reason... wish I majored in Asian studies... :/
You should consider taking a summer class or something. Usually schools have scholarships for study abroad in the summer, and they are not defined by major because of the short (3 months) period of time.
@SaitamaFlowers it's cool that you got the opportunity to travel while still in school. And what a creative way to make money out there. Almost everyone I heard of going there does teaching at first. Did you take Japanese before you went abroad or learn through living there?
My question is how do you guys pay for all this studying abroad especially if financial aid isnt for overseas schools. I'd like to study overseas but I dont want to go into debt. lol
Not going into debt is a good thing. The best thing to do is keep your grades up and look for scholarship opportunities if you don't have the money. I didn't really, but going abroad for the semester was the same as my school so it didn't make a difference...
There are so many courses you can take; it just depends on the area you are in and the school you go to. I went through CIEE which I highly recommend.
You teach in Japan that's pretty cool. I'm looking into doing that as well. I wanted to study abroad first but the rents said no/couldn't afford it. Did you visit Japan before you got the job you have now?
I only teach part time for extra money, and sometimes as part of my job. I do coordinating, translating and radio work. Jane of all trades lol. I think teaching full time would be tough. Yes, I studied abroad first!
Was it hard to learn how to read Japanese?
What program are you in?
and finally... was it scary to attend Japan as a student?
