  • Great song and great version.

  • I'm a Hag fan so i didn't think i would like this cut.I liked it a lot.

  • @ :21 in is that Lockhart Tx? just curious cuz it seems like it is

  • According to the Facebook page of Steve Boyle (the video director) the building behind Radney is the Parker County Courthouse, Weatherford, Texas. Steve has some of the original “Running Kind” Polaroids available to view online.

  • YouTube won't let me place a Facebook link here, so go to Facebook and search Steve Boyle Sarasota -> go to Photos -> scroll to the bottom of the page and find -> 1994 The Running Kind POLAROIDS, and you'll see the original Polaroid of the courthouse among others from the video.

  • First time I heard Radney do this he was performing on Austin City Limit. It blew me away. I am a big Merl Haggard fan but I have to say the Hag has got to take a back seat on this one.

  • One of the Greatest Songwritters to ever walk the planet in Merle Haggard and Radney Foster and it shows you how great Radney Foster is he made this song his own if i wasn't a Merle Haggard fan i would've thought Radney Foster would've written it.

  • As much as I love Merle, this is the best version

  • This is one of my favorite versions of this song. Love the arrangement.

  • RADNEY FOSTER Is THE MOST UNDERRATED Man in Country Music History This One of the The Best Cover Of a Merle Haggard Song I've ever heard And what did Nashville Do for Him not a DAMN THING He was Proof That a Real Artist Always Get The Shaft DAMN YOU GARTH BROOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  • RANDY FOSTER WAS A JERRY'S KID POSTER CHILD WHEN HE WAS 14 - HE STILL COULD BE - ROFL!!!

  • Great players, insane steel player.. who is he.. the authentic "Rodeo" sound. Thanks a bunch. CickleK

  • I love this song!

  • Love this song!

  • I met Radney at the Taste of Colorado back in the early 90's. He was the nicest guy, even took a picture with us and gave us an autograph. What a talent he is.

  • Dude,

I met Mike McAdams opening up for BJ Thomas at Toolies Country in Phoenix back in '91. He is as underrated a guitar player in country music as there is. Goes for Rad as well. I miss these days.

  • Man what I wouldn't give to go back to real country! Today's garbage has be begging for Garth Brooks who I despised as a kid. Country has skidded so far away. The good stuff gets no radio play.

  • @Rightsideup

You're right there, bubb... the best guys are the ones nobody even knows about.

  • 1-4-5-verse

    1-4-5-cho.

  • Does anyone know the chords to this song. I can't fine em anywhere...

  • Like bshdad said, it's I-IV-V. This version is in A, so it's A to D to E repeat.

  • I never could understand why Radney didnt attain the status of superstar, such as Alan Jackson or George Strait. His abilities were just as good and you couldnt listen to one of his songs without tapping to the beat. Radney, thanks for what you have given us!

  • I suspect that Radney didn't become a superstar because he could make just as much money walking ot his mailbox to get his royalty checks for songs like "Raining on Sunday" or "A Real Fine Place to Start" without having to spend his whole life in a tour bus.

  • I disagree. Radney loves performing and will even go to some pretty small venues. I saw him last week at a small club in the Atlanta area.

  • I saw him with Foster and Lloyd (I am dating myself), and he clearly loves to perform.

My point was that his songwriting royalties and reputation gave him the option of having a prolific music career without going through the hassles of the star system.

  • Radney was too damn authentic. No shimmery gay guitar licks, or vocals that an elementary school child might deliver. Just real singing of great lyrics set to outstanding guitar picking, with a solid bass and drum rhythm, and some good steel guitar. Rascal Flatts is the biggest act in what most people call country music these days. Think about what that means. Mediocrity rules. Radney's music was whiskey, compared to todays O'Douls.

  • @jamcrane3 A lot of truth in that statement.

  • @jamcrane3 You just expressed my very own thoughts about the state of country music. So long as it sells, authenticity and excellence be damned.

  • Sorry, MikeW ... but I think ol' Radney eclipses Alan by light years when it comes to songwriting and just (way slightly) behind the Big S vocally! Rad rules ... and you know it! ;) But no one touches Merle on this one!

  • 1.29 Fort Worth?

  • Radney is the most underrated artist in all of country music.

  • Sooooooo Goooood!!! WOW!!!

  • damn good version...im impressed

  • Great version! Anyone know who's playing the B-Bender Tele?

  • If I were to guess, I think it's Mike McAdams.

  • Often, when a song is covered by another artist, it is viewed in a negative light, like by doing so, the later version's performer is trying to "out-do" or "one-up" the original. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery & in this case, the song was part of a tribute album. It is paying homage to one great by others that have been influenced by or have enjoyed the work of the former. It is a way of paying respect. Covers win new fans, too. Music is an art of personal expression. LOVE this!

  • this one of the better songs done from the Merle Haggard tribute album...cooleh

  • Not bad:-)

  • Not bad, but Merles version is MUCH better.

  • My god this is good.

  • Does any one know if there's a video version of his "Louisiana Blues"? That one is a really good song!

  • Go Radney!! A very creditable version!

    From A Lifelong Hag Fan!!

  • its ok, not in the same league as Hags version

  • As much as I like Merle Haggard's original, This one is far better. It's extremely rare when I like a cover better than an original but Radney Foster has nailed this one perfectly.

  • The best Radney song ever!!! I sing this one on karaoke.

  • This is not a Radney song, this is a Merle Haggard song.

  • LOL!! Actually, I knew that. I have been both a Merle and Radney fan for ages. I guess I should have said "the best song ever "sung" by Radney.

  • His version is actually done very well. Usually a remake of a Merle Haggard song isn't very good.

  • Did Rad' ever release this? On which album? It suits his amazing voice so beautifully - it makes me all tingly! :P

  • From the Merle Haggard Tribute CD "Moma's Hungry Eyes."

  • that came from a tribute to merle haggard,,, this guy sure does a excellent job on this song eh...

  • Love it!!!

  • Great - loved this track for years, but never knew there was a promo video...

    Thanks!

  • WOW!!!
