Legislators in closed records states need to amend the laws that retroactively sealed original birth certificates belonging to adult adopted persons. To deny a person the right to their OBC is a violation of basic human and civil rights.
I can't wait until the day NY allows us access to our birth certificates! I just recently found out I was adopted as a middle age adult and I have so many questions! I am an adult, my adoptive parents are gone, let me know my roots! The adoptive parents were really the ones that the stupid law protects because if I was never adopted, my records wouln't have been sealed. It needs to change and change now!!!
Crying tears of joy for all of the adoptees like myself who have been granted access to their original birth certificate. Such sadness for those who are still fighting to gain this most basic right. Don't give up. It's crazy that there are states that still do not grant adult adoptees access to their original birth certificates. Just listen to the voices of the adult adoptees on this video. The emotion is so real. We have been denied so much. But hopefully soon all states allow this.
This is just so powerful and speaks to so many of us who do not have our basic information of origin. I celebrate with these adoptees who were given their right to know and have missing pieces of their life filled in. I will always support the right for adoptees to have access to their original birth certificate. To deny adoptees of basic life information is insane!
How can people not understand how much this means when they see the tears on the faces of those who have been granted access. Listen to their comments, "my birthdate is right" imagine not knowing when your actual birthday is, not knowing how old you really are. How can you not got it? This is important... on the most fundimental of levels.
Don't agonize, ORGANIZE!
