The statistics on those that leave the special forces makes for grim reading: Suicide, alchohol, drugs, death through extreame sports, depression, PTSD. I served with Ben in 2Para and I always remember he was an intelligent free thinking soldier. Not surprisingly, most professional soldiers do not support torture of prisoners. The reasons are:
1 Torture is ineffective. The victim will tell you what you want to hear in order to make the torture stop. This will likely not be the truth.
2 Soldiers realize that they may be captured, and if we are known for mistreating prisoners, the it makes it less likely that our people will be treated well.
3 It totally undermines your moral authority in the eyes of the rest of the world.

Now who was the judge who granted the MoD an injunction, why none other than Judge Eadie. What sort of contract is it that restricts Freedom of Speech. As for Ben's Mummy and Daddy I have no problem in saying that I was amazingly proud when Ben passed all trials and tribulations to get into the Parachute Regiment, and as for the Special Forces, well again very proud. However, proudest of all when he was given an honourable discharge from Special Forces because of his experience. Read the reports in the Independent it was always about oil, and regime change. As his 'Daddy' I remain very proud of my son, shame others lacked his courage.

I also went on the infamous high secret delta 2301 mission. It was me and him. Against 5000 Japanese triads in the middle of the Sahara desert. I killed all of them with my bear hands while he hid. i then ran across the desert with him on my back, because he has complaining from leg pain.

I believe he's being coherant. Why? Because CommonWealth military (particularly the SAS) were the creators of the "hearts and minds" campaign concept . A concept "advertised" by the americans in Iraq and Afghanistan but the real emphasis has been put upon the "enemy bodycount" campaing concept.

You can't train a soldier to conduct himself according to regulations and then ask him to turn a blind eye to war crimes. In fact, it is prohibited by law. Not surprisingly, most professional soldiers do not support torture of prisoners. The reasons are:
1 Torture is ineffective. The victim will tell you what you want to hear in order to make the torture stop. This will likely not be the truth.
2 Soldiers realize that they may be captured, and if we are known for mistreating prisoners, the it makes it less likely that our people will be treated well.
3 It totally undermines your moral authority in the eyes of the rest of the world.

Iv read books about special forces, I read a book about a guy who had a piece of his head blown off...he was still fighting, he died fighting...special forces are programed to think and act obviously...but they do the acting part the best.
