  • If you want a big cartridge, look at the Neo-Geo! O____O

  • @TheCGIMaster Yeah 0_0 lol

  • Most of the Tengen games were licensed, so they used different cartridges.

  • Can't believe he went there haha and he's drinking English beer, good man!

  • yeah thoose nes cartrides were really solid, but the work art on the cartrides looks way greater then most games itself, early nintendo games fairly showed the real graphics of those games on their art work, like golf kong fu duck hunt supermariobros etc,,,

but backthem i also allway's dit believved that those cartrides were philled up with a huge hich technology motherboard inside, untill recent shortly i found out that in most nes cartrides only 1 3th of space inside was ever used!!!!

  • "Touch the feel, of cotton, fabric of-" I DON'T GIVE A GOD DAMN FUCKIN SHIT SEMEN SWALLOWING TESTICLE SUCKING PENIS GROPING BITCH!!!

  • @xilefian Shut up.

  • @SuperDJIsAwesome Yeah, but not September 11th 2001

  • @SuperDJIsAwesome So what? A date like any other.

  • The Megaman games were easily the best the NES had to offer, but they also had the worst cover art.

  • cool

  • ultra is actually is konami's second company -.-

  • nes cartridge is about as wide as a disc, not to big... -.-

  • hey mark have you reviewed Megaman?????

  • MMMMMM.... ...NEWCASTLE

  • LOL @ fridge

  • the design for the NES cartridge is outstanding

  • @thevideogamenerd100 I think its big because people would think it would hold alot.

  • @NonstopRam and it does hold a lot. the games on the NES are awesome

  • before 1987 nes carts has 5 screws instead of the clips and nintendo found that it was cheaper to make carts with 3 screws..with clips..and thats why some games have clips and why some dont.

  • before 1987 nes carts has 5 screws instead of the clips and nintendo found that it was cheaper to make carts with 3 screws..and thats why some are 3 or 5 screw.

  • Excuse me, but what kind of screwdriver do I need to open those?

3,8mm/4,5mm gamebit? or just an regular X one?

  • Man, I gotta lend the Game Room my Golden Legend of Zelda cartridge. Just so he can review the cartridge!

Anyone know how to send games to the Classic Game Room?

  • 17 people store their video games in the fridge.

But seriously, did you ever actual open up a NES game cartridge. Despite how big the cartridges look, the actual chip inside is quite small compared to the plastic casing.

  • u shud review minecraft its an awsome game

  • You forgot the best game company that produced games for nes.

    LJN!!!!

  • @Howtosingoncod oh god xD

  • @Howtosingoncod I died a little bit inside reading your comment.

  • newcastle brown ale !!!! nuff said :D

  • The little sleeves kept dust out

  • tegnen where not certified by nintendo

  • Screw you, Rolling Thunder is awesome! :-)

  • isnt the reason the American NES cartridges are so big is because its basically the japanese version circuit board with a translator circuit board attached to the bottom?

  • I really want to get a nes... And a genesis.... And maybe a snes... And i want the real thing too. Not the retron thing.... What should i do?

  • @iceying199 Buy an NES, Genesis, and an SNES.

  • @FailVideosThatFail

    even better a Retron 3

    all those in 1 :D

  • Fun review, especially the bit at the end with the fridge XD Now that you've recently reviewed Rolling Thunder, I hope that you'll soon review Star Soldier as well. That would be awesome =)

  • the reason why some of the games dont have the clips on the top its because

its an early production cart..and it uses 5 screws on the back..nintendo found that its cheaper to produce the carts with the clips.. instead of using 5 screws..in 1987 is when they started using the clips.

  • Doodle Pinball adventures for iphone and ipad. you can hit some angry birds with the pinballs.

  • cartridges are so much cooler looking than todays cd containers

  • lol that fridge!

  • THAT WAS GREAT,AND FUNNY TOO!!!LOL,NES IS THE BEST!!!

  • u got miss pacman made by tengen its cool

  • wow how the hell you can make videogame cartridge?

  • @Aeletaz747 what?

  • NES games are larger than Atari 2600 games. You see the Neo Geo carts yet?

  • @RLmike1234

Yeah, those beasts are even larger than the NES itself!

  • tengen games were not licensed from nintendo

  • its common sence thats how u would no, lol :)

  • @sgtdoom999 Yeah bro! The entire cartridge is stupid :p!

  • Awesome that you can get Newcastle Brown Ale in the States. Good beer.

  • Man, I could go for some Blaster Master right now!

  • The 80's was the greatest time to be a kid!!

  • Famicom carts are small why the hell are nes games huge............?

  • @codyc67 Mainly, to differentiate them as much as possible from the Atari VCS/2600. Also, the Famicom looks very much like a toy, and back in the 80s, lots of toy stores got burned when the video game industry crashed. So Nintendo did everything they could to make the NES look like a "serious" appliance, and not like a toy. It worked.

  • watch that here mimb o .net remove space

  • Those games without the top safty clips, and have 5 screws on the back are rarer then normal, they switched over to the 3 screws 2 safty pins on the top, after a while and many people finding out that people where using famicon to nes pin converters found in gyromites inorder to gain money selling to people for out ragous prices so people can play japanese exclusive at home. A few other games also had the converters in them too.

  • The styling of the NES cartiridge is itself a masterpiece of design! Just wish there was an "Ocean" game among those cartridges (maybe I didn't look hard enough?)

  • huge cartridges, isnt that a bad thing? doesn't that make it less convenient, and more oddly shaped?

  • my miner complain about the nes cartride is,1 they,re too big cuzz most nes cartrides has only 1 3th of motherboard inside, the rest of the space inside is empty wich i call a wastle of space and plastice.

2 despites it has a grip to remove it, it,s very ticht, and could hearth my vingers, the action 52 game has a better grip to easier remove the game.

  • but da atairi 2600 cartridges stick out of da system but da nes cartidges go inside da system

  • Ur not supposed to store them in thefridge. Well shit, thats why E.T. seemed so shitty.

  • 6:19 wow imagine a day when america and japan didnt outsource their manufacturing to china

  • Poor Outlaw being covered by the nes games hes like ewwww nintendo i have some of their games on MY system

  • Was that "FAPPER" in the fridge?

Also, how could you review NES cartridges without giving more time to that glorious gold Legend of Zedla cart?

  • Can you review airwolf please! I have this game and I'd like to see a review of this game

  • @highwaysonyfan87 I am a gamer from back in the 80's and I do not know every bit of retarded, useless trivia there is. When you are living you learn things and other things get by. Living is not the same as researching. That is why there is school. Do not call people names. Especially him. He is funny and awesome and you don't see him being quick to judge people the way you are.

  • i think the reason the american NES cartridges are so big is because it is the japanese circuit board with another circuit board to translate it stuck on the bottom

  • The ridges on the nes cart is supposed to represent the ridges on top of the original

    nes.

  • @Supersourcrout ha ha!!! yes finally some one agrees with me!

  • If you want to look at horrible front artwork for NES games...look no further than Little Red Hood.

  • LOL! I LOVE YOU INECOMCOMPANY!

  • Newcastle Brown Ale? Wai-Aye man yer import beer from the toon?

  • pleas put some KISS music in your videos.

    Thank you

  • didnt know you could get newcastle brown in the U.S ?

  • dude most atari games were made by U.S. developers you can keep them in the fridge that is only true about Japanese games (lol)! Honestly tho theirs a video of all that nintendo games can endure don't even worry if you run over your game with your car it will still work. Nintendo's cartridge design was a amazing, keep them in the freezer or put in the wash Nintendo games still work amazing!

  • Airwolf is utter and complete shit.

  • @me123270

    This is true.

  • I lke this reviews and i buy a nintendo 64 for only for golden eye.

    You have so great reviews!

  • Tengen was a label used by Atari Games. Atari got split into Atari Corporation, which had control over home console games, and Atari Games, which had control over arcade games. When Atari Games wanted to enter the console-game market, they created the Tengen label. However, they didn't agree with Nintendo's restrictive license, so they made the black games. These were not licensed by Nintendo, and Nintendo sued Tengen twice, once when they first came out and once over the copyrights for Tetris.

  • DAMN!!! now i have to move my atari cartriges somewhere else, oh well time to clear some space in the oven.

  • Those plastic sleeves were the worst things to happen to a cartridge, it's what made people throw out the original boxes to the games! :C

  • for years ive been storing my atari games in the fridge because they did not tell me that. LOLOL

  • I always actually thought the game was called Olling Rthunder.

  • LoL, in the fridge =P

  • Nice 80's techno!

  • Man ! Your Cartridges dont have a single scratch...o.o

  • to bad you can't put it on Firefly and make it cool cause it sucks donkey balls

  • @Trickmaster6 donky kong balls

  • to the saint of pain: everyone has their own opinion on SMB3, some like it, others dont. im in between

  • Newcastle Brown ale! Fucking aye man! This dude knows his beer, makes me love CGR even more.

  • Your other hand was lost...hopeless

  • how much beer do you have in there.

  • My NES games didn't come with sleeves.

  • Um, hello? Ultra and Konami are (or I should say were) the same company.

  • akklaim did turok evolution, my first fps

  • Great ending!

  • you dont have mario 3!

  • Mario 3 is best Mario game.

  • @rubin3364 really because that is my least favorite lol

  • @rubin3364 yeah either that or super mario world

  • @rubin3364 yeah but its hard as fuck

  • No, that's not an opinion. It's just abject and utter stupidity. PERIOD. You're not a real gamer AT ALL if you think that SMB3 sucks, and I suggest you, first, shut the hell up, and second, NEVER TOUCH A GAMING CONSOLE AGAIN.

  • Oh, WOW. Yeah, I haven't been called THAT by some loser on YouTube before. Nope, this is the first time ever. Good job on the creativity, you sorry fucking retard.

  • kl i feel achieved im the first person to call you THAT and yes i am a creative man, im not a retard and im not sorry lol so if you want it to hurt you have to be accurate :)

  • agree

  • The Tengen games wasn't licensed by Nintendo. He should watch AVGN, his NES Collection video explains that stuff.

  • Color Dreams games had a different look to them for the same reason as the Tengen games.

  • The Tengen games were unlicensed Atari games. I have their unlicensed ms pac man and Tetris (black not grey standard released version much better in my opinion). Most of the black ones were pulled later if I remember right and became hard to find.

  • @Luigi84289 Some of the Tengen games, after they were pulled, were later rereleased as normal, licensed NES games.

  • Always thought you could put Atari games in the fridge.

    Oh well...

  • GRIPPY THINGS, oh yeah and i this vid saved my life cuz i have a nes clone and i didnt know if it could play unlicensed games cuz of the......u know what never mind it

  • does anyone have an old nintendo entertainment system that they want to sell cheap, let me knoe, by pm, thanks

  • review kung fu for the NES!!! that game is awesome!! why nintendo don't ou it on the virtual console? i don't know. for the same reason that they don't put smb 64.

    fucking nintendo...

  • You really should do a whole video on the Tengen thing as I don't think you covered it properly. Tengen (which is Atari) didn't have approval by Nintendo to make games on the NES. You will notice no seal of approval and that the games don't fit right. And that there are 2 NES Tetris games due to this. Research it for yourself and do a video on it. Its actually quite interesting the whole situation there.

Also FYI.. Ultra is Konami just as LJN is Acclaim.

  • I doubt Mark will ever do a whole video on the subject because it's not his style. He just says how amazing all games on every system are. Plus he clearly didn't actually know about the unlicensed thing at the time he recorded this, so he might not be qualified to chat about it much. Plus frankly the topic has been done a thousand times by now, surely?

  • I knew about Ultra but LJN is news to me, both seem to be destinations for the really crappy games that the publishers don't want to be associated with (and given Acclaim's pedigree that's really saying something!)

  • Yeah Tengen's Tetris owns, much better than bland licensed release.

  • 2:06

but that makes taking it out confusing

  • xD! I guess the Atari games get a free spot in the house, the fridge, again!

  • tengen is atari

  • LOL he actually put them in the fridge for the review

  • As big and cool the NES carts look, I wish that they weren't so big. Because I'm almost out of room to store them. I only have 1 slot left, and that's going to be taken up by metroid.

  • I hesitate to think where cartridges might go in the future. (If only for portables.) So tiny and easy to lose. After all, I saw a micro SD card at Block Busters. 4 Gigs of memory. Smaller then the penny I held over it. Size means nothing, now.

  • will you review the remake of bionic commando for the xbox 360?

  • he already has

  • Tengen was making games with out paying nintendo the fee for releasing games, so since the games were not officially licensed, companies like tengen had to create there own cartridge designs since nintendo manufactured the cartridges.

  • the atari 2600 carts look like giant chunks of charcoal, as plain as they get. the nintendo cartridges are classics. but yea, they are huge

  • Damn that Metroid cartrage is great condition...

  • What are you talking about? Rolling Thunder cover art isn't the that bad, at least, not compared to the megaman cover art. Megaman makes rolling thunder look awesome. The cover art that is, not the game itself.

  • you forgot thq

  • Ultra IS Konami. konami made a second game company so they could publish more than 6 titles per year.

  • Ever heard of "unlicensed" NES games?

The reason why Tengen went with that alternate NES cartridge design is because they made games WITHOUT A LICENSE from Nintendo, as did other companies like Color Dreams, American Video Entertainment, Active Enterprises, Camerica etc. who also used their own cartridge designs.

  • Get out, He has more of a life than you, he's married and makes a good living, btw he gets paid to review stuff, stfu or gtfo

CGR FOREVER *Raises the He Man Power Sword in the air*

  • you should've talked about the Zelda gold cartridge

  • Robocop!!

  • A cartridge design review without the golden zelda games?

  • man i used to have the nes covers back in the day...

  • I love the misleading opening.

"If you want a giant hulking piece of the 1980s, look no further...than Robocop."

  • my faviorte cartridge design is the sega genises

  • Big deal, those aren't huge.

You should check out the NeoGeo carts, they're the size of a wii.

  • Tengen only made unlicensed games (except for Gauntlet and I think 2 others). That's why they almost always had funky carts.

You should love Tengen...they are a subsidiary of Atari.

  • Plus Tengen made a much better version of Tetris, it had two players! C'mon that's hard to top

  • Yeah, it's a good version, but I can't find the cart on ebay for less than 80 bucks...I have to play it illegally.

  • That's because Nintendo called ahead to stores and said if you sell Tengen games we will not sell games to you. Making stores kinda send them back to Tengen/Atari.

Sadly it was just a big legal battle that was very stupid on Ataris part. They went to the patent office and "stole" the plans for the lockout chip and made unlicensed games.

  • Yeah, I read the wikipedia too. They had good intentions...they didn't want to fry the nintendo lockout chip.

The new, somewhat fake, Atari corp should try to get the rights to re-release their classic Tetris game. I remember really liking how there were cool animations on the right of you game.

  • @Tombert256

There was nothing good about it, they wanted the lockout code so they could release more than 5 games a year, when Nintendo said 5 and only 5 Atari decided to do something about it. After they got the patent, they tried to sue Nintendo for "monopolizing the console industry".

  • Again, I also read the wiki...I was joking. Corporations generally never care about people.

They were sort of right about Nintendo, though. I mean, I know there were competitors, but it hardly seems fair that Nintendo was allowed to sell a computer that you could only write 5 things a year for, especially since Tengen made a couple great games like Tetris and a ton of arcade ports.

Nintendo is probably less strict now, since they are competing with another entity: The personal computer.

  • I didn't know you were jokin haha :\

  • Holy crap! I've been storing my 2600 games on the face of the sun for far to long.

  • 2600 games AND Newcastle in the fridge? Pure win. I wish I could give you 6 stars for that.

  • When i become a lil older and begin making mah own money i'll so begin collecting retro games. I hope they'll last til i get old aswell.

  • Why not collect them already? Stop wasting your money on candy or something and buy som old games! :)

  • The black cartridge is unlicensed nes game made by other company's without nintendos permission, you can see there is no nintendo seal on it. Also there is no point for using 2 hands for that 2 handle since you mostly have to hold the nes with one hand to pull the cartridge out with the other. Anyways nice video by the way. 5/5

  • wait untill you've seen the mvs carts

  • Those were so cool and clunky

  • i've been storing my Atari games in the fridge for years how was I supposed to know not to do that

    lol

  • KUDOS on the newcastle ale, fuckin gooood stuff
